Leak: Microsoft Pink phones coming to Verizon, on shelves April 20th?

Details on Microsoft’s Pink phones seem to be leaking all over the place this week, and we just got a huge piece of the puzzle: an extremely reliable source just told us the two Sharp-made devices will launch exclusively on Verizon, with a possible street date of April 20th. We’ve also got two more photos of the Pure and Turtle — which are legit, as far as we can tell — and some info on the Pink ad campaign, which will indeed be targeted at teens and twentysomethings and centered around that “truly madly deeply” line Microsoft employees have been tossing around lately. (Sort of explains that 4/20 launch date, right?) Whether any of this is good enough to overcome the fact that Pink seems to be a limited featurephone platform launching into a world of cheap smartphones remains to be seen, but this thing is definitely happening. New pic of the Turtle after the break.

Update: We’ve just heard that Pink will be coming to Vodafone internationally as well — which explains why we’ve heard of both CDMA and GSM variants of the two devices.

Android 2.1 for Droid Eris leaks out

We’ve already seen a broken build of Android 2.1 for the Droid Eris slip out accidentally, but now the full package is available for installation courtesy of the fine folks at xda-developers. We haven’t tried it ourselves, but we’re told it’s working fine, and that snazzy new version of Sense is apparently quite snazzy and new. Of course, you’re risking your phone and all your data if you try this, so the absolutely smart and prudent move is to wait for the official update, but do let us know how it goes if you’re daring enough to load it up, okay?

Update: And just like that, it’s been ported to the Sprint Hero, although not everything works quite yet. You be careful, kids.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 leaks out with Fermi on board

Well well, what’s this? After months of whispers and small leaks, it seems the Fermi-powered NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 is starting to leak out into the wild before it launches on the 26th. Obviously the pictures don’t tell us much about performance, but we can tell you that you’ll need a serious power supply to juice this thing up — and a serious fan to cool it down. We’ll see how the GTX 480 and little brother 470 stack up against ATI’s latest when they finally arrive, but for now hit the read link for a few more shots.

Motorola Devour in the wild once again

We’ve already seen the Motorola Devour in the wild once, but with the official Verizon launch right around the corner and pre-sales underway, it looks like at least one more unit has made it out into the world. Great — but we’d like a video of this thing and its mid-range processor running Flash, please.

[Thanks, Zach]

Some Droid Eris owners getting Android 2.1 update?

We’re not entirely sure what’s going on here, but that’s a shot of a Droid Eris running Android 2.1, and we’re told the update came over the air — a story seemingly corroborated by a couple other people around the web. Unfortunately, it seems like things aren’t quite fully baked yet: the update doesn’t include Sense UI, and it apparently wipes all your data and doesn’t allow you to log back into your Google Account. Verizon tells us that the Eris update to a “newer” Android is still in testing and hasn’t yet been officially released, so we’re taking all this to mean that there’s been a slip-up along the line — especially since this obviously isn’t final software. In the meantime, we’d say Droid Eris users should probably back up their sets just to be safe.

[Thanks, Vido]

Zune software references rumored Project Pink devices, a video upload service?

We weren’t sure things could get any more interesting with Microsoft’s mobile rumor mill, but along comes Zune Boards with some tantalizing findings in the latest Zune software update. First up is the eEndpointFamily files, which lists all the compatible hardware — ZuneHD, for example. Also found, however, were entries for “PmxPure” and “PmxTurtle.” PMX, if you recall, seems to be a reference to Microsoft’s
Premium Mobile eXperiences group, the remnants of the Danger acquisition who have been whispered to be working on Project Pink. As for Pure and Turtle, let’s go back all the way to September 2009, when we first heard those names as the initial Pink duo — there were some supposed renders, too. If that’s not enough, two PMX table entries pointed to a snippet of text stating that “Studio members” can “View and manage pictures and videos taken with your phone at the Studio,” followed by a link that for now redirects to Zune.net. Could the mysterious Project Pink and the oft-rumored “Zune phone” be one in the same, with some “Studio” service for uploading media to the cloud? Is this all some red herring perpetuated by some amused Microsoft staffers? We don’t know, but it’s mean to tug at our heart strings like that, Microsoft, and worse that it makes Mobile World Congress even more painful to wait for. #tmdp

Tech Pundit Leaks Apple Tablet Specs?

yerba_buena2

Apple is set to launch its new tablet today but entrepreneur and web personality Jason Calacanis seems to have stolen the company’s thunder by revealing a few key details ahead of the official event.

On his twitter feed Tuesday night, Calacanis claimed Apple gave him a tablet to test 10 days ago under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). That NDA ended midnight Tuesday, he says. “It is the most amazing device ever,” Calacanis tweeted.

For those hungry to know more, Calacanis claimed to offer a peek into the Apple tablet’s features:

  • The tablet runs an “iPhone flavor operating system” and can handle multiple apps at the same time.
  • The display is OLED but the device also offers an e-reading mode with longer battery life.
  • It has two cameras–one in front, one at the back of the device so it works well for video conferencing.
  • There’s a built-in HDTV tuner and PVR.
  • There are thumbpads on each side for mouse gestures and fingerprint security for up to five profiles.
  • The tablet will cost $600, $700 or $800, depending on size and memory
  • There’s also a wireless keyboard and monitor connection for TV available, he says.
  • The tablet connects to other tablets over Wi-Fi for gaming and will include games such as Farmville, the Facebook game that has become a rage among users.
  • Overall the tablet offers a battery life of two to three hours while playing games. But there’s a solar pad for recharging.

Sound too good to be true? We will know soon enough. Read Gadget Lab coverage of Apple’s tablet event live.

Next-gen AMD Scorpius and Lynx desktop platforms leak out, Fusion still coming in 2011

AMD had a little show and tell with Asian press to go along with those new Phenom II and Athlon II chips it just launched, and it revealed some of its next-gen plans along the way. In the short term, it looks like the plan is to launch the 45nm Leo platform we’ve heard about later this year to better compete with Intel’s 32nm Clarkdale parts, and then to push forward to 32nm in 2011 with the Scorpius platform, which will feature a Bulldozer CPU called Zambezi with up to 8 cores and a “next-generation discrete graphics solution.” Midrange desktops will get some “next-generation integrated graphics” of their own this year on the Dorado platform, while 2011 will see the Lynx platform launch with the long-delayed Fusion chip. (We were first supposed to see Fusion chips in late 2008, remember?) Fusion is also still on vapor-y track for laptops with scheduled 2011 launch of the previously-leaked Sabine platform, but AMD also tipped the new Brazos Fusion-based platform powered by the Ontario APU, which is “optimized for new form factors” — potentially MID-sized, but we don’t know for sure. Phew, that’s a lot of codenames — we’d say we can’t wait, but we’re clearly going to have to learn how.

Pentax Optio I-10, H90, and E-90 leak out in full

We caught a glimpse of some new Pentax cams yesterday, and now the new Optio I-10, E-10, and two-tone H90 have leaked out in full. We still don’t kow a ton about them, but the higher-res images mean we know some basic specs: the I-10 cops an old-school vibe and features a 5x zoom on top of a 12.1 megapixel sensor, the H90 also has a 5x zoom, and the E90 looks to be a little more basic with a 3x zoom and a 10.1 megapixel sensor. So… let’s get official with these soon, okay?

Pentax Optio H90 and Optio L10 cameras briefly leak out

Looks like the color-crazy engineers in the Pentax labs are brewing up some new goodies: these images of a new Optio H90 and new orange-topped Optio L10 were briefly up on a retailer site today, and Photorumors managed to retrieve the images from Google’s cache. There’s also an entry for a third Optio, but there was no associated image or info, so there’s at least one surprise left in this world.
