Hasta La Gadget!

Well, this was inevitable. After Sprint’s website snafu outing its Android 2.3 intentions for the EVO 4G, we’ve received evidence that points to June 6th as its release date. Better yet, if you’re willing to manually check for its availability, you might even find a happy surprise this Friday. In addition to Gingerbread, users will find SMS and Gmail fixes, along with a tweak to the phone’s power management software. Hopefully you’ve got WiMAX, because this update is coming over-the-air. Should everything go according to plan, users will have less than a week to say goodbye to Froyo. It’s a trusty companion for sure, but that spicy aroma is quite enticing. Hit the break for some corroborating clues.

Well, we’ve been waiting for a PlayBook packing something more than WiFi to rear its enterprise-friendly head, and there it is — sort of. Search Google for “Sprint PlayBook” and the number one (non-sponsored) result is a page “introducing the BlackBerry 4G Playbook tablet,” which means the companies are right about on schedule for that promised summer release. Clicking on the link just redirects you to the Sprint homepage for now and, sadly, price and exact ship date are still anyone’s guess. There’s enough detail in the search snippet to tell us that this is legit and and an announcement page is ready to go, though — so, WiMAX fans, we hope you like QNX.

It looks like the G2x saga isn’t over quite yet; after first disappearing from store shelves due to quality concerns “high demand,” the dual-core Android smartphone is getting a slight price hike from T-Mobile. As of May 27th, the out-of-stock Froyo handset decided it was worth an extra Grant (quite the presumptuous fellow, no?), dialing in with a new price of $249 after rebate. An internal screenshot describes the price hop as a reaction to inventory constraints. The supposed effects of supply and demand aside, this price adjustment feels a little shaky amid reports of botched WiFi handoffs, overheating, light leakage and reboot issues. With any luck, the G2x will return to store shelves sporting a worry-free update to Gingerbread; but if you aren’t counting on it, you can still snag one at Amazon to the tune of $99. Oh, and look: plenty in stock, too!

An Ode to the Philips GoGear Connect 7:

It’s rumored to be launching soon,
Supposedly hitting shelves in June.
Instead of picking Honeycomb,
Philips decided to go it on its own.
Underneath its skin you’ll find Gingerbread,
We’d prefer an “entirely for tablet” OS instead.
There’s a front facing camera for video chat
And a “drawing area” — imagine that!
It’s got a 7-inch screen and microSD,
As for price and processor it’s wait and see.

You’ve probably already seen the leaked pictures of the Droid 3, but what you really want to know is what’s going on underneath that chrome trim. TechnoBuffalo claims to have the inside scoop and it sounds like the latest landscape slider from Motorola is packing a number of nice improvements. According to a tipster the screen has been upgraded to a 4-inch qHD panel and inside is one of those fancy dual-cores all the cool phones are rockin’ these days — presumably of the Tegra 2 variety like its Droid X2 cousin. As spied in the photos it also has a new 5-row keyboard layout and front facing camera for video calls, while the rear-facing shooter is getting bumped to 8 megapixels. There is one disappointing, but not entirely shocking, detail though — the Droid 3 will lack LTE. We can’t confirm these specs, but they’re perfectly logical assumptions and raise no alarms and no surprises.
