LG Optimus EX gets official in Korea, sporting 1.2GHz Tegra 2 chip, 700 nits of brightness

So, about that LG Optimus EX we saw last week — it’s now gone official in South Korea and it’s looking slightly more alluring. Announced yesterday, this Gingerbread-coated handset is the first to ship with NVIDIA’s revamped 1.2GHz Tegra 2 processor, which means it’ll support 1080p video, much like the Galaxy S II. It also boasts a four-inch LCD with 480 × 800 resolution and a full 700 nits of brightness, along with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage, a five megapixel camera and front-facing VGA shooter. Available in either black and silver or white and gold color schemes, the EX is slated to launch on Korea’s SK Telecom at an unspecified price, though plans for an international release remain unclear. As soon as we find out, however, we’ll be sure to let you know.

LG’s Clip-On 3-D Specs for Four-Eyed Moviegoers

Watch 3-D movies or harass Ferris Bueller lookalikes in video game arcades — you decide

For a spectacle wearer, 3-D movies are a no-go zone. Even if the filthy, crappy 3-D glasses provided by the local movie-house were instead clean and awesome, they’d still be impossible to wear over your own specs. LG has come to the rescue with an updated version of that 1970s style staple — clip-on, flip-up shades.

The passive glasses use even more 1970s tech to do their work. Polarized lenses let differently polarized light into the left and right eyes. This passive 3-D was found in a recent study to be superior to active 3-D, in televisions at least.

The best thing about these glasses, apart from the fact that wearing them will inspire you to grow a mustache, is the price: At $20, you might just want to buy them and use them as actual clip-on sunglasses.

LG Esteem leaked, delivers more LTE respect to MetroPCS

The LG Esteem has been spotted hanging out in several official-looking press shots accompanied by several pages of specification juice at LG’s partner portal site. Previously seen under the guise Bryce, and seemingly identical to Verizon’s LG Revolution, this metroPCS interpretation looks set to arrive very soon. A welcome upgrade to the network’s previous LTE offering, the Esteem runs Gingerbread on a 4.3 inch screen and has some respectable mid-range crendentials under the hood including a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM and 8GB of storage expandable by microSD. There’s also a five megapixel snapper on the back, embedded in a stylish metal strip similar to the dual-core T-Mobile G2x. Unlike LG’s powerful flagship, though, MetroPCS will reportedly be offering up the Esteem off-contract for $349 — a reasonable way to increase your LTE-connected self-worth

LG Optimus Hub (aka Univa / Optimus Two) earns its stripes at the FCC

Okay, we’ll totally admit that we’ve got something of a phone crush on LG’s successor to the Optimus One lineup. Sure, it hasn’t debuted in the States, and its specs already look a bit tired, but there’s tons of goodwill attached to this family of devices. Should LG properly execute, the handset promises to be an iterative improvement for all smartphone buyers that need to save some coin. Now this sexy creation is making its way though the FCC, and while it’s difficult to tell whether this is an international model or is bound for our domestic shores, it’s easy to realize that we’re one step closer to its much anticipated release. After a bit of digging, we can tell you the phone supports the 1900 and 850MHz bands, which is common to networks such as AT&T, Bell, Telus and Rogers. With all the names being tossed around, it’ll be interesting to see how the individual carriers choose to brand these devices, but it seems that we won’t have to wait much longer for those details.

Samsung SHV-E120L comes out of the development dark, is the Xtina to LG’s Britney

Brothers from another mobile mother, or just a case of copycat syndrome? We’ll let you be the judge, but from the looks of this latest leak, Samsung’s SHV-E120L could be sharing some of the LG LU6200’s special spec sauce. Outed over on Cetizen and iNews24, the full breakdown of the device’s innards point to a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 HD display, 2 megapixel front-facing / 8 megapixel rear camera, 1GB RAM, 16GB of onboard storage, WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC. We’ve seen conflicting reports as to the exact version of Gingerbread that’ll ship on the phone, with Android 2.3.5 in the running. As for the handset’s radios, its purported MDM9600 Gobi chipset indicates tri-mode LTE, HSPA and CDMA compatibility. Sammy’s super-sized smartphone could hit South Korea later this month, or in early October — if the passable English in that Google translation can be believed.

LG Enlighten to achieve retail zen September 22nd on Verizon

There are a number of ways to achieve inner-peace, like years of meditation, for example — or you could just pick up an $80 Android handset. LG finally made official the release of its Enlighten handset today. The Gingerbread phone features a 3.2-inch display, a QWERTY slide out keyboard, a 3.2 megapixel camera and an 800MHz processor. The largely unexceptional bit of hardware will be hitting Verizon’s site on September 22nd, followed by a September 29th debut in Verizon retail stores. It’ll run you $79.99 with a two-year contract after a $50 mail in rebate. Enlighten yourself with the press release after the break.

LG LU6200 spotted in the wild, with 720p HD display taking center stage

If LG’s tease routine didn’t whet your appetite for the LU6200, these freshly leaked pics might do the trick. Obtained by Korean site Money Today, these in-the-wild images appear to corroborate many of the specs we’ve already heard about, including that 4.5-inch AH-IPS display at 720p resolution, eight megapixel camera and 1.3 megapixel front-facing shooter. This device is also rumored to feature a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of built-in storage and will reportedly ship with Android 2.3.5, though it’ll be ready to update to the forthcoming Ice Cream Sandwich, as well. The LU6200 is expected to hit the Korean market sometime next month, where it’ll run on LG Telecom’s U+ LTE network, but you can check out an extra image of its commodious display after the break.

Telus launches Optimus Black in white, doesn’t believe in paradoxes

For those who like a good dose of irony with their Cheerios, there’s the LG Optimus Black — now available in white. Like its darker cousin released in Canada earlier this summer, the Black in white (seriously…), will feature the same specs as the original (a 5 megapixel camera, unlimited Skype-to-Skype calling and a 4-inch IPS display) as well as an identical contract-dependant price tag. Starting tomorrow, the phone will be available on the Telus network, but there’s no word yet whether its American twin will get the same whitewash treatment. This latest pair of handsets now joins a distinguished list of ebony and ivory favorites: Oreos, tuxedos and Michael Jackson songs (video after the break).

LG unveils Optimus Q2 QWERTY slider, slated for Korean launch next week

LG’s fleet of Optimus handsets got slightly larger yesterday, with the announcement of the Optimus Q2 — a follow-up to that LU2300 QWERTY slider we saw last year. Powered by a 1.2GHz Tegra 2 processor, this forthcoming device runs on Android 2.3, boasts a spacious, four-inch, IPS-based LCD with 700 nits of brightness and features a five-megapixel rear camera, along with a VGA front-facing shooter. The Korean manufacturer added that the Q2 will be about a tenth of an inch thinner and 0.35 ounces lighter than its 3.5-inch predecessor, and that it will ship with a wider keyboard. LG is expected to launch the handset in South Korea next week, though pricing and plans for a wider release remain a mystery. Head past the break for the full, translated PR.
