Razer’s special edition Naga Maelstrom and Molten mice: too pretty to touch

Still curious if there’s a market for mice with a dozen or more buttons on the side? Wonder no more. Just over a year after Razer caused every MMO addict in existence to salivate uncontrollably with the Naga comes this: a new duo of special edition Naga creations. For all intents and purposes, the Naga Maelstrom and Naga Molten are identical to the original in terms of functionality, but there’s a decent chance you’ll want to lift your palm from the surface of these a lot more frequently. Both units are graced with special edition lids, and somehow still feature 17 “MMO-optimized” buttons while adding a touch of glow underneath. Both models are slated to ship worldwide next month, with pricing set for $79.99 / €79.99 (the same as the original, if you just have to know). Per usual, the full presser is after the break.

Microsoft Pink Mouse for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

microsoft_pink_mouse.jpg

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Microsoft is marking the occasion with the above pink mouse, a partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an organization that describes itself as, “the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.” The mouse is pink and features the organization’s logo on top.

Ten Percent of the mouse’s $39.99 selling price will be donated to the organization. The mouse features Microsoft’s BlueTrack technology, a nano transceiver, and 10 months of battery life. It’s also compatible with Windows Flip in Windows 7.

According to the statistics, someone is diagnosed with breast cancer every 23 seconds.

Microsoft kicks out a pink mouse for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

If you’ve been following your NFL broadcasts, you’ll have noticed an entirely unusual hue infiltrating your typically macho sport — in most clashes this weekend players on both teams could be seen sporting pink paraphernalia alongside their usual uniform colors. This courageous act of pinkification was in aid of the US National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which Microsoft is also supporting in its own small way. That small way is called the Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000, which will retail from now until the end of September of next year for $40 and contribute a $4 donation per sale to the Komen for the Cure charitable fund. Hey, it’s got BlueTrack if you need to feel manly while buying one!

Razer Mouse Bungee promises to let your corded mice roam freely

Mouse bungees may not be the most popular gaming accessories around, but we’re sure there’s at some dedicated gamers reading this that wouldn’t think of using a corded mouse without one, and Razer is now hoping to increase that user base with a mouse bungee of its own. Developed in partnership with Mouse Bungee — the company itself — the contraption simply promises to keep your mouse’s cord off your desk and not impede on your freedom of movement in any way thanks to suitably springy suspension mechanism and a sturdy, non-slip base. No word on pricing just yet, but you can look for it to be available sometime in the fourth quarter of this year. Full press release is after the break.

How would you change Apple’s Magic Trackpad?

Magical? Maybe. But there’s no doubt that Apple’s Magic Trackpad was a shot out of left field when it debuted earlier this summer. Offering loads of multitouch gestures to desktop users who are sick and tired of using the same ‘ole mouse for the past score, the pad received little attention from Apple itself. Rather than launching the new hardware at a press event, the company simply slid it into its webstore, just hoping and praying that you’d put your optical bias aside for a moment and try it out. We’ve already given you our take, and now we’re interested in hearing your own thoughts. Has the Magic Trackpad revolutionized the way you control your cursor? Caused more frustration than it’s worth? Did you forget you even owned this thing? How would you tweak it if allowed into Cupertino’s design labs? Tell all in comments below.

Razer Tron Mouse leaves light trails in our hearts (video)

We don’t really expect that the actual Tron movie will be any good, but boy, its officially endorsed accessories aren’t looking half bad. The $100 laser mouse from Razer has snuck out for a quick pre-release video demo where we get to see it tracking gloriously on an accompanying “precision” mousepad. There’s hardly much to be learnt about the mouse’s ergonomics or 5600dpi accuracy, but it does glow with that mighty inviting shade of blue (cyan?) and the mousepad reacts to the laser’s illumination by leaving dreamy light trails after your movements. It’s cyber-poetry in motion, available after the break.

Canon’s X Mark I Mouse excites and exhilarates like few gadgets can (video)

If there’s one thing you don’t expect to find at Photokina, it’s a mouse. If there’s another, it’s a calculator. In some strange twist of fate, we found both in Canon‘s press lounge, and we couldn’t possibly be more elated. The X Mark I Mouse captured our attention early last month, and we’ve been searching up and down to get our hands on one ever since. Nestled gently between legions of camcorders and a few dozen printers was the gem we’d be searching for, and we didn’t hesitate to clear the area for a brief hands-on. Both models were surprisingly large, which simultaneously made the calculator buttons easy to press and the mouse as a whole difficult to grasp. The harsh, sharp edges were no friend of Mr. Ergonomic, but we’d probably forgive it if that $63 MSRP fell to a more reasonable level. Be sure to thank a lack of sleep and all of the companies pouring out news at the show for the delirium that’s after the break.

Microsoft Metro mouse leaks out, promises BlueTrack for $20

Not a ton of details here, but Russian website TheVista.ru has turned up some seemingly legit materials for a hereto unheard of Metro Mouse from Microsoft, which is apparently a new addition to the company’s BlueTrack line — and Microsoft’s latest use for the “Metro” name. At just $20, it’d also be the cheapest in the line and, like some of the other models, it’s designed to be used either left or right-handed. Assuming this leak actually pans out, you can look for this one to be available sometime in March.

[Thanks, deeper2k]

Logitech’s Wireless Trackball M570 rolls out for $60, doesn’t bow to fancy touch mice

Oh yes, that up there is Logitech’s newest Wireless Trackball M570, which apparently caters to an “overwhelming demand of dedicated trackball users.” Well, we’ll be damned! At this point, we’d figured that trackballers would have switched over to an MX or something by now, but we do have to say the new sculpted shape is mighty comfortable, and if spinning a big blue ball to navigate the desktop is your thing it doesn’t seem like a bad deal. The $59.99 peripheral will be available immediately, and packs 2.4GHz wireless and a small USB Unifying receiver that tucks into the bottom of the mouse for safe keeping. Logitech sent us one to play around with, and though we’re not exactly the most nimble at using the trackball to jump from window to window, the scroll wheel felt calming enough and there are two back / forward buttons to get you from tab A to tab B. Guess we really have to hand it to ’em for sticking with what works. Hit the gallery below for some more eye candy, and hop on past the break for the full press release.

Spotted: Lamborghini-branded Asus Wireless Mouse

Asus-Lamborghini-mouse.png
Until I saw the leaked images of the WX-Lamborghini wireless mouse coming from Asus, I was blissfully ignorant of the line of  Lamborghini branded computer accessories: a mouse pad, laptop, wrist pad, and a ZX1 smartphone. Really?

This Asus-Lamborghini co-branded wireless mouse will sport a nano USB 2.4 GHz receiver and be powered by a single AA battery. The mouse itself is standard, with left and right buttons, a scroll wheel, and two side buttons. Not laying any bets on how long a AA battery would last in a mouse, though.

What’s not standard is its angular look. It’s all sharp edges. What were the designers thinking?

As it has just gone to the FCC, the Asus WX Lamborghini wireless mouse is expected to be in stores soon. Perhaps in time for that car fan’s Christmas stocking?
