It’s turning out to be quite the day for Alienware, eh? First we see that the M15x and M17x are finally up for order (with their swank Core i7s within), and now we’ve got the first public video of the M11x doing its thang. If you’ll recall, we only had enough time at CES to snap a few quick pictures, but now that the starting-at-$799 ultraportable (or “netbook,” if you must) is said to be “coming soon,” it seems that parent company Dell is feeling pretty good about showing it off. An employee recently had the chance to sit down with what was originally coined the Phantom (full story awaits you in the Source link), and even though it can be hidden behind a standard sized magazine, this diminutive monster is still potent enough to cruise through Left 4 Dead 2 with nary a hiccup. Whoa, Nelly! We learned back at CES that Alienware‘s pretty-much-a-netbook would launch in the Spring for less than a grand, but now we know precisely what the base price will be: $799. The starting MSRP of the M11x was delivered courtesy of the company’s own website, but not in the most straightforward way. If you surf on over to the M11x microsite and view the source, you’ll notice the following blurb tucked within the code:

The Alienware M11x, with over 6.5 hours of battery life and weighing under 4.5 lbs. will start at an amazing $799! Leave it to the folks at Alienware to enable truly mobile performance gaming at an affordable price.

So, a polarizing (albeit vivacious) design, an 11.6-inch display, NVIDIA GT335M switchable graphics and a 6.5 hour battery, all for $799. Shall we sign you up, or what?

Man, Acer’s on the warpath. The world’s second-largest PC manufacturer seems hell-bent on radically changing the status quo, telling Bloomberg today that it’s “aggressively pursuing” Chrome OS “so there’s a change to the Microsoft-Intel environment,” with plans to be among the first to ship in Q3. That’s somewhat ahead of Google’s own schedule for reaching v1.0, so yeah, it’s definitely aggressive — and it also sounds like a strong hint towards an ARM-based Chrome OS machine in our future, but Acer wouldn’t confirm anything. Still, those are basically fightin’ words, especially since Acer’s framing the future as a choice between “either” Windows or “Google’s defined OS space.” Acer also promised to fully detail a 6-inch monochrome e-reader by June with an initial focus on European markets, and we’re also informed of a forthcoming free / cheap application store that will be compatible with Android, Windows Mobile, and, obviously, Chrome OS. And lest you thought Acer was ignoring the Apple tablet madness that permeates our world, we’re told that an Acer tablet is in the works, accompanied by the candid admission that the Taiwanese giant is waiting to see what Apple has in store before finalizing its own plans. Yep — things are getting a little nuts.

Tired of waiting for the Eee PC 1201T to ship? Impatient, aren’t we? We’ve been wondering about the status of this here netbook since it came to light last November, and now it looks like the Germans are about to get a real, live taste of AMD’s Congo platform. Boasting a 1.6GHz MV40 CPU, the same look and feel that we’ve grown accustomed to on Eee PC netbooks, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, ATI HD3200 GPU and Windows 7 on the OS front, this is certainly one of the more unique machines in the sea of Atomized “me-toos.” The pain? €399 ($560), and the first batch is expected to ship out tomorrow. Here’s hoping the price dips somewhat when it makes its Stateside debut.

Apparently we weren’t the only one’s enjoying some Clear speeds down in Vegas, the 10.1-inch ASUS Eee PC 1005PEG was riding the 4G waves too. Other than its WiMAX support, the Eee PC 1005PEG has the same specs as the recently-reviewed 1005PE, including a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. If the 10005PEG can manage the same 8-hours of video playback as the 1005PE we’ll welcome the WiMAX-enabled lappie with open arms to the growing family of Pine Trail netbooks.
