Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t multitouch tablet up for order with Atom N470

If you have yet to join the Pine Trail party, how about this multitouch tablet netbook from Lenovo? Word has it that you can now order the IdeaPad S10-3t with Atom N470 processor (along with 250GB HDD, 2GB RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit) billed at $649 — $100 more than its N450-equipped sibling (160GB HDD, 1GB RAM and Windows 7 Starter). Mind you, the page does say that it won’t be shipped for at least four more weeks, and this spec isn’t even listed on the main product page yet, but the source link’s there for you reckless venturers.

[Thanks, OneLove]

Alienware’s ‘Phantom’ concept became M11x, cranks through Left 4 Dead 2 on video

It’s turning out to be quite the day for Alienware, eh? First we see that the M15x and M17x are finally up for order (with their swank Core i7s within), and now we’ve got the first public video of the M11x doing its thang. If you’ll recall, we only had enough time at CES to snap a few quick pictures, but now that the starting-at-$799 ultraportable (or “netbook,” if you must) is said to be “coming soon,” it seems that parent company Dell is feeling pretty good about showing it off. An employee recently had the chance to sit down with what was originally coined the Phantom (full story awaits you in the Source link), and even though it can be hidden behind a standard sized magazine, this diminutive monster is still potent enough to cruise through Left 4 Dead 2 with nary a hiccup. Don’t believe us? Check the video for yourself after the break.

Gateway’s DVD-playin’ EC14D netbook spotted in the wild

Gateway isn’t daring to call its ED14D a netbook — probably because of that built-in DVD optical drive — but there’s nothing outside of that to prove that it’s anything more. That said, it’s easily one of the most intriguing 11.6-inch machines out there, and while it’s not slated to ship for a few more days still, the crew over at Notebook Italia has managed to get their hands on one. Hit up the Source link if you’ve never seen a netbook with an optical drive before, and then hit this link while asking yourself where you were in January of 2009.

Alienware’s M11x netbook gets a base price: $799

Whoa, Nelly! We learned back at CES that Alienware‘s pretty-much-a-netbook would launch in the Spring for less than a grand, but now we know precisely what the base price will be: $799. The starting MSRP of the M11x was delivered courtesy of the company’s own website, but not in the most straightforward way. If you surf on over to the M11x microsite and view the source, you’ll notice the following blurb tucked within the code:

The Alienware M11x, with over 6.5 hours of battery life and weighing under 4.5 lbs. will start at an amazing $799! Leave it to the folks at Alienware to enable truly mobile performance gaming at an affordable price.

So, a polarizing (albeit vivacious) design, an 11.6-inch display, NVIDIA GT335M switchable graphics and a 6.5 hour battery, all for $799. Shall we sign you up, or what?

[Thanks, Daniel]

MSI Wind U135 should be available for as low as $310

You better watch it, Acer — it looks like MSI is getting real close to undercutting your $299 Aspire One 532h netbook with its $309.99 Pine Trail-powered Wind U135. Taiwanese manufacturer disputes aside, not much has changed with the Wind U135 since we brought you our impressions, but we remind you that $305 buys you a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N450, 1GB of RAM, an 160GB hard drive and Windows 7 Starter. If you need a bit more storage, you can shell out an extra 20 bucks for the 250GB version. And the cheap netbook race continues… Check the full PR after the break.

Acer to launch e-reader, app store, and Chrome OS netbook this year; wants to ‘change the Microsoft-Intel environment’

Man, Acer’s on the warpath. The world’s second-largest PC manufacturer seems hell-bent on radically changing the status quo, telling Bloomberg today that it’s “aggressively pursuing” Chrome OS “so there’s a change to the Microsoft-Intel environment,” with plans to be among the first to ship in Q3. That’s somewhat ahead of Google’s own schedule for reaching v1.0, so yeah, it’s definitely aggressive — and it also sounds like a strong hint towards an ARM-based Chrome OS machine in our future, but Acer wouldn’t confirm anything. Still, those are basically fightin’ words, especially since Acer’s framing the future as a choice between “either” Windows or “Google’s defined OS space.” Acer also promised to fully detail a 6-inch monochrome e-reader by June with an initial focus on European markets, and we’re also informed of a forthcoming free / cheap application store that will be compatible with Android, Windows Mobile, and, obviously, Chrome OS. And lest you thought Acer was ignoring the Apple tablet madness that permeates our world, we’re told that an Acer tablet is in the works, accompanied by the candid admission that the Taiwanese giant is waiting to see what Apple has in store before finalizing its own plans. Yep — things are getting a little nuts.

Dell Mini 10 with Broadcom Crystal HD Accelerator review

Michael Dell may not be a fan of netbooks, but you wouldn’t know that from the newest Mini 10. Joining the current Mini 10v, Dell’s completely overhauled the chassis and added Intel’s new Pine Trail processor. But that’s not all: come February the little laptop will be available with Broadcom’s Crystal HD accelerator, which promises full HD playback on a high-res 1366 x 768 display. But does the $425 package rid us of our tireless complaints that Atom can’t handle HD, and does it rival netbooks based on NVIDIA’s Ion platform? And perhaps more importantly, can we count on the Mini 10 to be a valuable member of the growing Pine Trail netbook fraternity when it comes to battery life and ergonomics? Read on to find out!

ASUS’ Congo-based Eee PC 1201T pops up on Amazon’s German portal

Tired of waiting for the Eee PC 1201T to ship? Impatient, aren’t we? We’ve been wondering about the status of this here netbook since it came to light last November, and now it looks like the Germans are about to get a real, live taste of AMD’s Congo platform. Boasting a 1.6GHz MV40 CPU, the same look and feel that we’ve grown accustomed to on Eee PC netbooks, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, ATI HD3200 GPU and Windows 7 on the OS front, this is certainly one of the more unique machines in the sea of Atomized “me-toos.” The pain? €399 ($560), and the first batch is expected to ship out tomorrow. Here’s hoping the price dips somewhat when it makes its Stateside debut.

ASUS’ Ion 2-based Eee PC to launch in April

Rather than mongering yet another rumor, DigiTimes is apparently reporting as fact that an Ion 2-powered Eee PC will launch in April. It’s also expected to host a 12-inch display if we’re reading this report correctly. That NVIDIA boost is welcome news since the Pine Trail-only bump given to its Eee PC 1005PE didn’t offer much in the way of performance improvements and still can’t handle YouTube video in HD. While no direct prices were given, Atom N450-based Eees are expected to drop in price to NT$14,000 (about $439) in Q2 after ASUS depletes its stock of legacy N270- and N280-based Atom netbooks. DigiTimes also notes that its 10-inch Eee PC T101 convertible touchscreen tablet (the T101MT presumably) will launch in late February along with a 12-inch Eee PC built around AMD’s Congo.

ASUS Eee PC 1005PEG includes WiMAX for those lucky enough to live near a signal

Apparently we weren’t the only one’s enjoying some Clear speeds down in Vegas, the 10.1-inch ASUS Eee PC 1005PEG was riding the 4G waves too. Other than its WiMAX support, the Eee PC 1005PEG has the same specs as the recently-reviewed 1005PE, including a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. If the 10005PEG can manage the same 8-hours of video playback as the 1005PE we’ll welcome the WiMAX-enabled lappie with open arms to the growing family of Pine Trail netbooks.
