It can’t all be sweet, right? So Netflix is indeed coming to PlayStation 3, but there’s a catch, and that is a disc (badly photoshopped into the picture above) will be required for use — not just for a one-time install, but every time you want to stream. Joystiq shot some questions off to the company, who justified this as being “fastest and easiest way to let PS3 enthusiasts get Netflix on the PS3” and that an embedded software solution through XMB will be coming late next year. It denies this has anything to do with Microsoft’s exclusivity agreement, but frankly we’re a bit bummed by this perplexing hurdle in convenience. At any rate, be sure to go reserve your disc now if you want to start streaming — assuming, of course, PlayOn hasn’t already satisfied your Netflix needs.

Uh, holy crap? As prayed/predicated, Netflix streaming will be available “later this year” on the PS3. Like the Xbox 360, it’ll be free with the $8.99-a-month plan. Unlike the 360, you’ll enable Netflix via an “instant streaming Blu-ray disc.”

Apparently, the free disc activates the Netflix mojo via BD-Live, in what must be the best use of BD-Live ever. At least until the next major system update, you’ll have to load up the disc every time you want to use Netflix. But you’ll be able to pick out movies or throw stuff into your queue using an onscreen interface, so there’s no going back to the old-school days where you had to add stuff to your queue on your computer before strolling over to your Xbox and TV.

Sony today introduced a new version of its PlayStation 3 Slim: It boasts a 250GB hard drive, more than twice the memory of its predecessor (120GB). The new console is launching just in time for the holiday rush, on November 3rd. It will run $349.99.

The new new PS3 maintains the slim form factor of its 120GB counterpart. That console, launched on September 1st, moved more than one million units in the three weeks after it was first made available. Sony will continue to sell it alongside the version with more memory.

We know Sony Ericsson’s PS3-lovin’ Aino would be hitting European shelves at some point during the month, and now Sony itself has stepped forward to confirm that the handset is on sale. We’re hearing that it’s selling for £399.99 ($639) sans a contract, and just in case you’re wondering why you and your PlayStation 3 should care, the Aino is capable of turning your console on and off, browsing the XMB user interface, accessing DRM-free content on the HDD, shopping for items in the PS3 Store and watching live TV via PlayTV. We can’t say this was unexpected, but Sony just pinged us to say that that Nazi PS3 ad is “totally fake” and was made without their approval — here’s the statement from the executive president of BBDO Chile, which made the ads:

This creative design did not involve and was never approved by Sony Computer Entertainment or Sony. This “mock campaign” was developed by BBDO Chile staff and was submitted to various creative competitions/festivals without prior notification or approval from SCE/Sony, and it is not representative of the views or advertising policies of SCE/Sony. BBDO Chile apologizes for using this creative concept without authorization or prior approval, and for its misrepresentation of the PlayStation brand and its values.

Settles that, we suppose — although we’re guessing BBDO Chile isn’t going to be Sony’s agency of record very much longer.
