Hasta La Gadget!

Whether called the Pre 2 or Pre Plus 2, there’s no denying that the first webOS 2.0 device is coming at us in a fast and furious fashion. Verizon docs already revealed it was on that carrier’s November roadmap, and now HP’s Facebook page for students has narrowed pre-order availability down to a specific date: November 8th. That’s next Monday, folks! No more info is available at this time, such as whether that will include the promised unlocked GSM Pre 2s or whether they would be forthcoming at a later date. Either way, we’re excited to see this 1GHz vessel sail in and bring us all that improved webOS goodness.

Sprint will apparently be offering preorders of its HTC 7 Pro — the only CDMA Windows Phone 7 device to be announced so far — in just a few days’ time on November 8th, but there’s a fairly big catch: you’ve got to be a Microsoft employee to get in on the action. Redmond has been great about seeding WP7 models to its staff so far, so it’s definitely possible that Sprint is working with Microsoft in some capacity to get 7 Pros to its folks a little early in an effort to smooth out last-minute bugs and get feedback… either that, or it’s just doing them a solid by letting ’em preorder a few days before everyone else. Last we’d heard, the 7 Pro won’t be coming until 2011 (despite the fact that there’s already an FCC certification ready to roll), so if we were to see a few of the things floating around campus before January, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised. Pricing is yet to be announced.

We played devil’s advocate with Verizon’s $599 Galaxy Tab, but it looks like the T-Mobile version of Samsung’s Android 2.2 tablet is going to cost a Benjamin more — it’s ringing up at $699.99 right now at Amazon unsubsidized. If we were you, we’d wait and see what kind of deals can be had in-store come November 10th, but if you simply must have one immediately you’ll be able to use it with one of Magenta’s standard mobile broadband plans. $25 a month gets you 200MB with 10-cent-per-megabyte overage fees, whereas $40 buys you unlimited use with a 5GB speed cap, and you can purchase blocks of prepaid data an 100MB, 300MB and 1GB increments at the usual rates. It’s a bit of a shame we’re paying the price of a decent laptop for a seven-inch smartphone sans cellular calls… but you didn’t really need that rent money, right?

Archos swore up and down that this one was set to ship in “mid-October,” which means that the pre-order link at Amazon should switch over in a matter of nanoseconds, minutes or hours. For those in need of a refresher, the Archos 43 is an Android-based portable media player with a 4.3-inch touchpanel, support for a zillion (give or take) file formats, an HDMI output and integrated WiFi. The 16GB model is available to claim for $249.99, so if you’ve been waiting for your chance to hop in the purchase line, this is it. Don’t blow it.
