Nokia N8 up for official €469 pre-order in Italy, available in September

Nokia’s Symbian^3 flagship — the 3.5-inch N8 with 12 megapixel camera — just went up for pre-order on Espoo’s Italian storefront showing an end of September availability. Now before you get up in arms about the €469 price tag (about $610), remember, the €370 estimated retail price announced was pre tax and pre carrier subsidy. That’s just how Europe does things, deal with it. We’re not seeing the preorder available elsewhere but we’ll update you if that situation changes.

[Thanks, Faisal]

Elonex 710EB color e-reader gets cheeky price bump, available for pre-order

Good golly, not another e-reader! Well, for once the Brits may actually be getting something rather affordable here — we were promised a £99 ($152) price point when Elonex announced its 710EB e-reader back in April. Sadly, this 7-inch 800 x 480 color LCD device never materialized in mid-May, but a quick phone call to Elonex just now revealed a new launch date in early August. Before you cast your doubts, this is also semi-confirmed by the availability date on HMV’s pre-order page — we’re just slightly mystified by the slight price bump to £119.99 ($184). Either way, here’s hoping that we actually see something before the autumn rain keeps us indoor.

Universal USB controlled ‘Power USB’ strip turns on when your PC says it can

Needlessly annoyed by how much energy is being wasted in your home thanks to vampire draw? Regrettably, it looks as if you’ll have to just tough it out for the remainder of summer (or winter, depending on hemisphere), as the device you’re peering at above won’t be on sale until August. The USB controlled “Power USB” power strip is a rather unique device, housing a grand total of four universal power sockets (hello, travelers!) and a single USB port; as you may expect, the USB port links the strip to your computer, giving it the power to turn a given socket on or off. Two of the plugs are actually on at all times (a good thing — trust us), while the other two can be turned on automatically when triggered by a software program or a print job, for example. There’s no mention of a price just yet, but even more alarming is the omission of a 12 socket version for the hardcore users among us.

Swiftpoint’s tiny mouse finally up for pre-order, shipping in August

It’s been a long couple of years since we last heard from Swiftpoint, but the company is back with a (tiny) bang and introducing its eponymous ultraportable mouse. Touting a pen-like grip, tilt-scrolling, and a 30 to 40 percent better efficiency than your touchpad, this little thumb accessory wants to be seen as the solver of an eternal problem — namely, getting all the utility of a desktop rodent without having to deal with its full size. Whether it lives up to that lofty goal will require some fingers-on time to determine, but the Swiftpoint does a very credible job on the battery front: it can turn a 30-second charge into an hour’s use and can last 3 to 4 weeks on a fully juiced cell. It all sounds quite appealing, but be prepared for some sticker shock as the pre-order price is £67 in the UK or $70 in the USA… and that’s with a 10 percent early bird discount included. We might just wait till these hit the sales before grabbing one.

[Thanks, Patrick]

Samsung Intercept is up for pre-order, might launch this weekend

Sure, the Epic 4G seems awesome — but that doesn’t mean Sprint can (or should) abandon the midrange Android market, right? On that note, the previously-leaked Samsung Intercept is now up for pre-order on Sprint’s so-called EVP site for business discount customers where it’s selling for $99.99 on a two-year contract after rebate (though we imagine regular customers coming into corporate retail stores might have to pay more than that). Feature-wise, you’re looking at a 3.2 megapixel cam with some sort of video capture, slide-out QWERTY keyboard (this is likely a Moment successor, after all), and your choice of Gray Steel or Satin Pink finishes. Word is that we might see an official launch this weekend — just don’t mistake it for an Epic when you see it in the store, alright?

[Thanks, anonymous tipster]

Update: Best Buy accidentally sold one for $100 already, so it’s possible this is going to be the asking price for everyone — and considering the specs, it really shouldn’t go for a penny more. Thanks, A Mathur!

Motorola’s Droid X up for pre-order today at Best Buy: $200, no pesky mail-in rebates

Sweatin’ those iPhone 4 reception issues? Got a thing for beastlier phones? Still perturbed that your white iPhone 4 pre-order didn’t exactly “work out” as expected? If you’ve found yourself nodding that noggin’ up and down upon reading any of the above questions, you should know that Best Buy’s offering pre-sales of Motorola’s forthcoming Droid X starting today. The benefit, naturally, is that you can avoid Verizon’s pesky $100 mail-in rebate, paying just $199.99 (plus all applicable taxes and bribes) to BB while grabbing a coveting spot in line for the next giant Android phone. Not like you needed an excuse to take a half-day today, but hey — at least you’ve now got a legitimate one.

Plastic Logic delays QUE proReader ‘a bit longer,’ cancels pre-orders

Plastic Logic delays QUE proReader 'a bit longer,' cancels pre-orders

Not good news for those looking for a different e-reader. Back in April, Plastic Logic told those who pre-ordered its QUE proReader that they’d have to wait until June 24 — after already having been delayed to April. Now that device is being delayed again, and while the company has wizened up and not actually given a new estimated date this time, it also took the unfortunate and ominous move of canceling all pre-orders. In the e-mail sent to those affected (which is after the break) the company says it has “decided that delaying the device a bit longer will result in a better product for you.” Hopefully it results in a cheaper product, too, as we’re not sure how a $800 reader is going to fare in a world where both the Kindle and nook are available for less than $200.

No pre-order? AT&T won’t have an iPhone 4 for you until June 29

The thinking all along was that there’d be an allocation of unreserved iPhone 4s in AT&T stores this Thursday for customers who didn’t bother to (or couldn’t) pre-order the phone ahead of time, but not so much. Turns out that the extra stock won’t be arriving until June 29, at which point it’ll be available on a first-come, first-serve basis (read: every man, woman, and child for themselves) both in stores and online. Of course, this is strictly an AT&T announcement — Apple Stores and Best Buys are still possibilities — but basically, there’s no point in lining up on the 24th at your local AT&T shop unless you’ve got confirmation that a reserved phone is available for you. Follow the break for AT&T’s full statement.

First iPhone 4 units being delivered

Aw, suki suki now! Looks like we’ve got our first iPhone 4 delivery here in the US, a full 24 hours before the first batch is supposed to land. The best news isn’t that throngs of pre-orderers are seeing their units “out for delivery” today, but that this Mac Rumors user was able to activate his unit already in seamless fashion. ‘Course, we highly doubt it’ll be so easy for everyone else crashing the servers tomorrow and Thursday, but there it is. So, anyone else seeing their iPhone 4 marked as “out for delivery?” Or better still, “in hand?” Give us a shout in comments below.

[Thanks, Anonymous]

Update: We’ve moved the FedEx image past the break, as one lucky Mac Rumors member already has his in hand. And so it begins. [Thanks, Adam]

Update 2: A reader has sent us over the above picture of his own brand new iPhone 4, which has only just arrived. [Thanks, Mark!]
