ContourRoam waterproof camera takes hands-free filmmaking underwater

Contour has already produced a handful of imagers for football players and cyclists, but the company has now come out with a solution for underwater explorers, as well, with its first waterproof camera — the ContourRoam. This hands-free device boasts a super wide-angle, 170-degree rotating lens, capable of capturing HD video in three different resolutions (1080p, 960p, and 720p) at 30fps. Its lens can also rotate up to 270 degrees, and projects a horizontal laser to help you align your shots. The camera’s instant on-record option, meanwhile, allows you to start recording as soon as you turn it on, while its waterproof aluminum body lets you shoot video at underwater depths of up to one meter for up to 30 minutes at a time — meaning you can leave that old ContourHD case at home. Sony’s F65 CineAlta 4K camera now available for a paltry $65,000

Sony’s F65 CineAlta camera now has a price tag to match its name — and its girth. The imager, which was first unveiled at this year’s NAB Show, has now been officially released ahead of this week’s IBC conference in Amsterdam. The newest member of the CineAlta family captures images in 4K (4096 x 2160) resolution and features a speedy 20.4 megapixel, Super 35mm CMOS sensor, capable of reaching up to 72fps at 4K resolution and 120fps on 2K. The F65 also comes boasts 16-bit RAW output at 19Gbps on 4K and WiFi connectivity that allows you to manipulate it from the comfort of your tablet. The shooter won’t start shipping until January, but filmmakers or production houses with lots of disposable income can order one now, for a mere $65,000. Summer may have drawn to an unofficial close, but that clearly hasn’t stopped the Galaxy S II from wearing all white. Today, the albino version of Samsung’s Gingerbread handset officially made its way to Vodafone, just a few days after launching in the UK and more than a month after leaking in “official looking” images. The blanched, 4.3-inch smartphone is available for free with a two-year, £36 per month price plan (roughly equivalent to $58 per month), though it’s still unclear whether it’ll be making its way stateside anytime soon. Andy Pad, Andy Pad Pro now available within Europe, for not a lot of money

If you’ve been twiddling your thumbs in anticipation of the Andy Pad‘s arrival, twiddle no more, because the budget-friendly Android slate is now available across most of Europe. Both the 8GB model and its 16GB Andy Pad Pro counterpart appeared on the British manufacturer’s website today, with the former priced at £129 (about $208) and the latter running for £179 (roughly $289). Both of the seven-inch tablets run on Gingerbread and offer up to six hours of battery life, though the Pro features a capacitive touchscreen (1024 x 600), compared with its little brother’s 800 x 480 resistive display. Medion announces LifeTab P9514 tablet, mysterious Android smartphone at IFA

Medion enjoyed a pretty eventful weekend at this year’s IFA in Berlin, where the German PC maker unveiled a new Android tablet and a rather obtuse Gingerbread smartphone. Known as the Lifetab P9514, the company’s 32GB, 1.6-pound slate is powered by a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, runs Honeycomb 3.2 and features a capacitive multitouch display with 1280 x 800 resolution. The device also supports both quad-band 3G and WiFi connections, along with the usual smattering of HDMI, microUSB, and microSD ports. Medion’s new phone, meanwhile, remains decidedly more mysterious. At this point, we know that the 4.3-inch handset rocks a five megapixel shooter and comes pre-loaded with the manufacturer’s GoPal satnav app, but further details remain murky. Both devices are expected to ship within Europe during Q4 of this year at unconfirmed prices, though rumor has it that the LifeTab will run for €399 (about $564). No word yet on whether we can expect to see either product hit the US anytime soon, but you can catch a glimpse of the freshly unveiled smartphone, after the break.

The company’s latest Ball-based sweeper uses Dyson’s proprietary (and complicated-sounding) Radial Root Cyclone technology to maximize its 235 air watts of suction power — most of which is concentrated at the cleaner’s head. It also ships with a mini turbine head, which you can use to clean up the hair that real animals leave on your car seat. Netflix price hike kicks in tomorrow, but you may not have to change right away

The time is running out on August, and with it goes the existence of Netflix’s streaming and disc services as a single package for $7.99. Keeping both (on the 1-disc plan) will require a $15.98 payout every month starting tomorrow, but if you’re one of the many crying loud and often that they’ll downgrade or cancel rather than pay more then hang on — you may be able to squeeze a few extra days out of your current package. Hacking Netflix points out that the price won’t actually switch until your “Next Billing Date” after September 1st, but you should change two days ahead to avoid being billed. For us that’s not until the 17th, so we have a couple more weeks to continue not watching the rented discs that have been languishing on our coffee tables without paying extra for the privilege. Your date may vary, so check out your account page to find out the specifics. Of course, we are wondering that after the shock has worn off, is everyone still escaping to friendlier locales, scaling back their Netflix subs or just eating the extra charge? HP: TouchPad will receive OTA update for added ‘functionality’

HP may have abandoned the TouchPad, but that apparently won’t stop the company from issuing a post-mortem OTA update for its webOS tablet. Yesterday, an HP spokesperson confirmed to CNET that “HP TouchPad owners can look forward to an over-the-air update that will enhance the platform and add functionality and a growing applications catalog.” The rep didn’t offer any specifics, but reaffirmed that HP remains “fully committed to the ongoing support and service of customers who purchased webOS devices.” The news comes on the heels of a Quickoffice HD update that dropped yesterday, and at a time when TouchPads are selling like hotcakes — which probably explains HP’s decision to issue a tweak. Indeed, the company went on to say that it’s seen “huge spikes in activations and between 3-5X downloads of apps,” since the TouchPad fire sale first launched.
