Mitsubishi’s new 1080p midrange PJ contender is the HC6800

Mitsubishi is back with a spec bump to last year’s well-received midrange HC6500 1080p projector with the HC6800. This model slots in below the king GT-styled HC7000 but increases its contrast ratio specs to 20,000:1 and does its big brother one better with a higher 1,300 lumens, apparently aimed at living rooms rather than the darker, more controlled home theater environment. Video processing is once again handled by the capable HQV Reon-VX chipset, this one is due in Japan September 15 for ¥250,000 ($2,647,) we don’t expect to wait long for a U.S. date & MSRP.

Yinlips Projector PMP is a PMP with a projector

You might not know this, but your portable media player is “shackling” you down with its shockingly small screen. What you, and every other self-respecting technophile, need is a projector to explode your awesome digital media onto the nearest wall, flat surface, or just some guy’s shirt. Nikon popularized this projector integration madness, and now Yinlips is continuing it with the 3.5-inch Projector PMP, which claims it can beam out a humongous 80-inch picture (we’d be impressed if it can do half that) and play 64-bit games of an unspecified variety. Further info is scant right now, but we suspect you could fill in the blanks with your favorite generic Chinese PMP‘s specs and you’ll probably be pretty much spot on. You’ll know more as soon as we do.

InFocus Adopts UWB for Wireless Projection

InFocus logo.JPG

InFocus has signed on to use ultrawideband technology in conjunction with its line of digital projectors, although it’s still unclear what it will cost.

Company representatives emailed a press release to PCMag.com reporters this week, explaining that a new DisplayLink Wireless System is currently compatible with the InFocus IN1100 and IN3100 series, and will be available soon on the IN1500, IN5300 and IN5500 series as well as future DisplayLink-enabled projectors.

The modules contain chips from Wisair, one of the few remaining UWB technology providers. Users shouldn’t have to worry about data loss, as long as the projectors are in the same room as the source: the adapters are rated for 99 Mbits/s, within distances of 30 feet.

Inside the Nikon S1000pj Compact Camera with Projector

inside 1000pj.jpg

This morning Nikon dropped a bomb: It introduced the first compact camera with a built-in VGA projector (640 by 480 at 30 fps).

The camera is quite compact–it’s just .9 inches thick.  Nikon sent us a few images of the inside of the camera, so you can see how it was able to pack the projector into such a small space. See more images after the jump; and for more details on the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj and the other new Nikon cameras, check out the full story on PC MAG.

The just-announced Nikon Coolpix S1000pj digicam / pico projector has been blowin’ up the Interwebs this morning, and we have the video to prove it. First of all, there is a hands-on provided by What Digital Camera over in the UK, and aside from the projector they’ve uncovered a pretty straight forward digital shooter: 12 megapixel, 5x optical zoom, pretty standard dimensions, and a 2.7-inch LCD. However, the projector itself seems to do the job quite admirably. Sure, it’s not an extensive demo, but the image looks clear and crisp. The reviewer deems it “a very, very clever party trick.” And if the straight ahead tech demo doesn’t get you in the mood to snap pictures and project them onto something, advertisers have offered us two visions of the future: take your pick from a spirited get together choc full o’ photogenic American actors, or a somewhat subdued, more elegant affair in the presence of photogenic French actors. All that fun (and more) is to be had after the break.

Nikon Crams Projector Into Compact Camera

coolpix pj nikonRemember the odd rumor from yesterday regarding a new Nikon pocket camera with a built-in projector? It turns out that it was spot on. Today Nikon has announced the S1000pj, and along with a nice, big 2.7” screen, a 12.1 megapixel sensor, there’s a VGA projector inside.

The camera looks to be a solid picture-taker, with a top ISO setting of 6400 (at three megapixels), a 5x zoom and both optical and electronic image stabilization, but the projector is the real story here, the first that we know of in a consumer camera. It’ll throw images of up to 40-inches onto a wall up to two meters away, and comes with a remote control and stand to help. Useful for impromptu slideshows, and quite excellent for playing back movies of, say, requests for intergalactic help. $430.

Don’t say “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, You’re my only hope.”

Nikon Coolpix S1000pj projector-cam beams into reality along with friends

Man, the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj has gone from crazy rumor to seemingly-real to whoa-here’s-the-press-release in record time — the compact cam with the integrated projector was just officially announced, along with the three other cams we saw leaked earlier today. Leaked specs for the S1000pj were dead-on: a 12.1 megapixel sensor with ISO 6400 sensitivity mounted behind a 5x wide-angle zoom lens with five-way VR stabilization, and that LED-powered projector that’ll put up a 40-inch image for slideshows complete with music, effects and transitions. We’re a little less excited about the $430 list price this thing will carry when it hits in September, but on the whole it’s a pretty terrific idea and we’re completely intrigued — looks like we’ll be saving our pennies this month. Pictures of everything in the gallery, deets on the other cams and a video of the S1000pj after the break.

Nikon Coolpix S1000pj to boast projector? Sure looks like it!

Now, we still can’t be sure that this thing is legit — but it’s definitely starting to look more than likely. The rumor early this morning was that Nikon would be announcing a small digital camera with an LED projector in the very near future, with a shelf-date sometime in September — the VP650. Well, now Photo Review has some shots of this supposed badboy. The Coolpix S1000pj will supposedly boast a projector capable of projecting an image up to up to 40 inches in size, with a remote control and projector stand as part of the package. The camera itself will be a 12.1 megapixel affair, with a 5x Zoom-Nikkor lens with 28mm wide-angle coverage — with pricing at $699 AUD (that’s about $587). Word is that VP650 was just a codename for the product, and we’d think we’ll be hearing much, much more about this little dude in the very near future. There’s one more shot to check out after the break.

Nikon Coolpix S1000pj: First Camera With a Projector is Weird

The guys at PhotoReview have unveiled four new Nikon Coolpix digicams, including the S1000pj—the first to include a built-in digital projector. This backs up earlier rumors about the camera formerly known as the VP650. WTF?

The Coolpix S1000pj is the first digital camera with a built-in projector that lets users project photos or movies clips on any flat surface at up to 40 inches in size. A handy projector stand is included, as is a remote control that can be used to operate the projector, release the shutter, and more. This model features an effective resolution of 12.1 megapixels and a 5x Zoom-Nikkor lens with 28mm (equivalent) wide-angle coverage, along with a similar image stabilization system to the Coolpix S640.

Although a release date is still up in the air, the S1000pj is expected to drop sometime in the near future for an RRP of $699 AUD or $587 US. That’s all well and good, but is this even a good idea? It’s kind of a throwback to the days when your grandfather would bust out the projector and show home movies in the attic (while wearing a sweater and clenching a pipe between his teeth no doubt). It seems a little redundant to me when you can easily view the files on tv or computer screen, but then again, I was never one for torturing relatives with pictures from my vacation. Check out PhotoReview for details on the entire lineup. [PhotoReview via Nikon Rumors]

Rumor mill: Nikon VP650 camera / projector combo soon to be revealed

Looks like our one of our dreams just might come to fruition after all, if this newest rumor coming from the vicinity of Nikon is to be believed, anyway. Now, there aren’t a lot of details to go round here, but Nikon Rumors is reporting that Chasseur d’Image — a print magazine in France with a history of publishing rumors that turn into reality — has published a report that Nikon will soon announce the VP650. What is this VP650, you ask? Well, it’s a hybrid compact digital camera with an LED projector (which may or may not be manufactured by Taiwanese company Foxlink) that can project 8 x 12 images in “good quality” in the dark. Chasseur d’Image reports that the VP650 will ship in September. Like we said — not a whole lot of detail, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled to see if this thing ever appears. We’ll say this though — such a product would probably make the tiny projector a lot more attractive.
