HTC EVO 3D gets more RadioShack love, June 24 sticks out as possible launch date

We’ve been hearing all sorts of details on the HTC EVO 3D as of late, but the only thing that hadn’t popped out at us was the launch date. We knew the day was drawing near, evidenced by the phone being put up for pre-orders at Sprint and RadioShack, but we have a little more to chew on. The June 24th launch date on this promotional flyer jumps off the page more than the EVO 3D does, and we really want to believe it; but even if this is an official flyer, it could simply mean that’s when RadioShack will begin selling it and it won’t be related to Sprint’s official launch. Still, if you’ve been waiting with bated breath to get your hands on your very own copy of The Green Hornet — oh, and a sweet phone while you’re at it — hang tight just a smidge longer.

Official Windows XP SP3 Release Date

XP SP3 Release Date

There has been a lot of buzz around Microsoft’s announcement that Vista SP1 has been sent to manufacturing, but it won’t actually be available to the public until March 2008. The reason for the delay is that there are some driver compatibility problems for some users, and Microsoft is trying to figure out the best way to isolate the people who will have troubles with the Service Pack.

All of this news has come while Windows XP SP3 has been brewing on a backburner, and Microsoft has been very reluctant to provide any status updates for XP SP3. That’s not surprising since they want to draw as much attention to Vista SP1 as possible, and that’s also a good reason that Vista SP1 will likely ship before XP SP3.

A French site called PCInpact (English translation) got their hands on the screenshot that you see above which indicates that Windows XP SP3 will launch on March 24th, 2008. I’m not sure how accurate that date will be considering that they also have a similar screenshot for Vista SP1 which indicates a February 18th release date, but Microsoft has already clearly said that it won’t be available until the middle of March.

At least we know that Microsoft hasn’t forgotten about XP SP3!

Back in January, Gearbox Software released a Duke Nukem Forever trailer, and our inner 13 year-old — only a lascivious gleam in his father’s eye when the game was first announced! — thrilled to its potty humor, gratuitous violence, and mosaic-obscured lady parts. We were skeptical about the promised May release date, since DNF has long been gaming’s answer to Chinese Democracy, and sure enough that got bumped to June 10 (international) and 14 (North America). But now the game has gone gold, meaning real-life physical copies, rather than just one of gaming’s longest running vaporware jokes. No confirmation that the game will ship via unicorn, but for more details devour the press release after the break.

Mac Office 2008 Download Leaked

Microsoft’s Mac Office 2008 won’t be released until sometime in January, but those of you who are eager to get your hands on it don’t have to wait much longer. File sharing sites have already started to distribute a 465MB download of the Beta version to anyone that wants it, and accompanying the download is a working serial number.

What’s this mean for everyone that doesn’t want to download it illegally? In no time at all you’ll be able to find Office 2008 Reviews blanketing the web, and a well-written review has already been posted over at the InsanelyMac forum. A follow-up poster also added screenshots of the splash screens for each of the individual apps.

One of the things people have been the most excited about is the Entourage 2008 software, which is kind of like Outlook for Macs. Many were hoping that it would finally be the product that they all wanted, but the reviewer wasn’t too fond of it:

It does take a long time to open, it makes strange noises at random times(like when you turned off email notification and it is idle). With this Application, I think that Microsoft tried to pack too much into one Application. The UI itself is not very space efficient and it is slow to use.

In the end the reviewer gave Mac Office 2008 a 4 out of 5 after ignoring the issues that will probably get fixed by the time it ships in January. I can’t wait to read what everyone else thinks of it.

HTC Sensation 4G hitting mid-June for $200?

Oh, the sweet smells of summer: surf, sunscreen, barbecue, Gingerbread. We’ve known all along that HTC’s Android 2.3-packing smartphone was set for release at the “beginning of the summer,” and thanks to some loud-mouthed Google AdWords, we’ve seen June 8th floated as a possibility. Those who understandably doubt the word of search-based text advertisements, take heart: it’s shaping up to be a big weekend for Sensation 4G leaks. First TmoNews got its hands on a Target placard pricing the snappy dual-core Snapdragon handset at $199.99, for what appears to be a June 12th release, and then the site snagged a shot of internal T-Mobile documentation that confirms the earlier June 8th date. Why the discrepancy? Well, it certainly wouldn’t be unheard of for the carrier to give itself a head start, and surely Target wouldn’t mind timing its own release up with its Sunday circulars. In both cases, it looks like the phone’ll be spending a fair amount of time beneath beach umbrellas.

Samsung’s Infuse 4G coming to AT&T May 15th for $200

We’ve known Samsung’s Infuse 4G was coming to AT&T since the day we got our grubby mitts on one at CES, and now it’s finally here. Samsung’s svelte superphone with the dazzling 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display is launching May 15th on AT&T for $200 on a two-year contract. Keep it locked right here, as more pics and a hands-on with Sammy’s hot new handset are on the way.

Behind that sizable screen real estate, the Infuse 4G packs HSDPA Cat 14 and HSUPA Cat 6 radios, a 2GB microSD card, 1.2 GHz processor, and Android 2.2. Sammy also gave it an 8-megapixel camera in the back that does 720p video and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter — all in a handset that’s 9.24mm thick in the bulge at the bottom and 8.9mm thin most everywhere else. Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Release Date in 10 Days!

Leopard Spaces Apple has finally decided to inform the public about the official release date of the acclaimed Leopard operating system, and it’s in just 10 days (on October 26th). Lines will surely form outside of the Apple stores, but I would imagine that there will be more than enough copies available.

What’s new in Leopard? Apple has detailed over 300 new features that will be shipping in the latest version of their operating system. I went through the entire list and grabbed the things that I thought were the most notable:

  • Boot Camp – run Windows on your Mac, and copy files between the two operating systems
  • Desktop – semitransparent menu bar, reflective Dock, organize files into “stacks,” and more
  • Finder – use the sidebar to group items into categories, flip through your files with Cover Flow, icons contain previews of files, and more
  • iChat – use Photo Booth to add effects to your video chats, tabbed chatting, file transfer manager, and more
  • Mail – includes stationary templates, to-do list manager, improved search, photo browser, RSS integration, notes, and more
  • Parental controls – simple account setup, time limits and bedtimes, web filters, remote control, and more
  • Quick Look – preview files without launching an application
  • Safari – enhanced find, full history search, resizable text fields, and more
  • Spaces – these are like virtual desktops, and you can drag and drop applications from one space to another using the Bird’s-Eye View
  • Time Machine – backs up all of your files in case you need to retrieve something that has been removed

Starting October 26th you’ll be able to pick up your copy of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard at an Apple retail store for only $129! That’s quite a steal, but the even better deal is the $199 household license that covers up to five computers. If you bought a new computer after October 1st, 2007 you qualify for the free upgrade. You will, however, have to pay a $10 shipping fee to get it.

Engadget also mentioned that the Boot Camp Beta will not expire until the end of 2007 for Tiger users, and until then you’ll be able to add/edit your Windows partitions. After that time you’ll still be able to run Windows, but you won’t be able to manage the partitions without making the upgrade to Leopard.

Microsoft Posts Mac Office 2008 Videos

Office 2008 for Mac Microsoft has been good about keeping a tight leash on the information that’s been made available for Mac Office 2008, but they’ve finally splurged and posted several video demonstrations of the new version in action. We have already posted some of the Mac Office 2008 screenshots that had been making rounds across dozens of sites, but the videos give a more true representation of how the software actually works. I have to admit that the different apps look pretty slick, but that’s coming from a Windows-only user.

The real question is whether Microsoft is a bit late at delivering a new version of Office for the Mac. Apple recently released their new iWork 2008 Office Suite, and I’ve heard great things about it. Heck, it even supports Microsoft’s new Open XML filetypes, but Mossberg says that iWork is "wimpy" compared to Office.

As of right now the Mac Office 2008 release date is still scheduled for January 2008, which happens to be right around the time of Macworld. So we’ll have to sit tight until then for some of the real hands-on reviews to start pouring in.

Walmart to Sell Samsung Infuse 4G in May for $178.88?

The Samsung Infuse 4G has yet to make its way to market, but when it does, you might be able to find it at Walmart. Rumor has it that the retail giant has been sending around circulars indicating that the Infuse and its 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display will hit shelves sometime next month. The notices also mention that the device will be sold for $178.88, which would likely be bundled with a two-year AT&T contract. There hasn’t been any confirmation from Samsung, which unveiled the ultra-thin smartphone way back in January, but we’ll let you know as soon as we get word.
