Droid X2 reappears in the wild, still indistinguishable from Droid X

You’ve seen it before and now you’re seeing it again. The Droid X2 that Motorola seems unwilling to announce has made another unsanctioned appearance in the wild. It’s still rocking Android 2.2 and there’s sadly no indication of any LTE goodness for it, but we suspect the changes that justify the 2 in its name will be happening under the hood. The 8 megapixel camera round the back comes with the same dual-LED flash array and HD Video label as the original Droid X, once again giving us no hint of what exactly Motorola’s upgraded. Then again, what’s the fun in knowing everything in advance?

T-Mobile’s 4G Mobile Hotspot going on sale April 13?

Well, well. Android Central got a hold of a leaked document revealing that T-Mobile’s 4G Mobile Hotspot, the first of its kind for the carrier, is slated to go on sale April 13th. We’re inclined to believe it, since T-Mo just confirmed that the LG G2x, also named in the doc, will indeed go on sale April 15th. Alas, if you’ve been waiting for more info about the pricey, Honeycomb-powered T-Mobile LG G-Slate, you can keep holding your breath: all we know is that it’s coming “soon.”

Dell Streak 10 to launch mid-June with Honeycomb, possible name change in the works

Dell’s Windows 7 Rosemount tablet may not make it to the beach with you this summer, but that doesn’t mean the company won’t have an Android alternative when it’s time to start applying sunblock. According to Forbes, the 10-inch Android-powered slate we got an oh-so-quick glimpse of at CES should be ready to hit the market somewhere around mid-June, just a little bit later than we’d previously heard. The publication also hints that the tablet heretofore referred to as the Streak 10 may not retain that moniker when it’s time to launch, but it will most definitely be running Honeycomb, though we’re not sure if it’ll keep the Stage UI. Either way, summer 2011 is shaping up to be the season of Honeycomb, and we’re excited to see just what each manufacturer will do to differentiate themselves in the increasingly-crowded space.

HTC Pyramid to launch on April 12th under the name of HTC Sensation?

When HTC extended an invitation our way to come “see what’s next” on April 12th in London, plenty of you were already guessing that its long-rumored 1.2GHz Pyramid device would seize that opportunity to make its debut. Now Pocket-lint has apparently confirmed those inklings, with word from an insider affirming the new Android smartphone’s launch for that day and also adding that its retail name will be the HTC Sensation. HTC has already filed a claim to trademark that tandem of words, which lends an extra dash of credence to this revelation. Frankly, so long as all the mighty, EVO 3D-emulating specs we’ve been hearing about this device turn out to be true, we don’t care if HTC calls it the Watermelon. Actual availability in stores is said to be expected “in the coming months,” leaving a bit more waiting to be done whatever happens on April 12th. Ah well, they do say good things come to those who wait.

HP’s keyboard-less webOS phone and Verizon Pre 3 leaked?

Our good friends over at PreCentral have just received a couple of juicy scoops, even for this time of the day. According to their proven tipster, what we’re looking at here is an upcoming webOS phone sans keyboard — a first for Rubinstein’s crew, as many of you might already know. While there’s not much detail to go with this pic, it appears that this here slate’s just slightly bigger than the Pre 3, and that the little spot above the screen could be either a front-facing camera or merely a proximity sensor. Following PreCentral’s logic, this could very well be the Stingray that showed up in the list of codenames back in November — the similarly sized Pre 3 is Mantaray, whereas the smaller Veer is Broadway, leaving Stingray and Windsor unclaimed. But of course, we wouldn’t place our bets just yet.

Speaking of the Pre 3, the same tipster also sent in a spyshot of said phone connected to Verizon. While we already know that this slider packs both CDMA and GSM radios, this is actually the first prototype seen running on the former. Alas, the mysterious tipster is again keeping a tight lip about this leak. Picture after the break.

iPod touch prototype with capacitive home button leaked?

Ah, would you look at that. Earlier this year there were rumors about Apple ditching the physical home button on upcoming iOS devices, and now we have what appears to be a new iPod touch prototype matching such description, courtesy of CrunchGear via Mr. Blurrycam. According to its About screen, this “DVT-1” (a late milestone) device packs 128GB of memory — twice as much as the largest available capacity option right now (remember that 64GB iPhone 4 prototype in Hong Kong?) — as well as a model number “MC550LL” which isn’t far off from those of the fourth-gen iPod touches (“MC54xLL”), though this similarity doesn’t help prove its authenticity nor indicate whether it’ll make it to the market. Still, if Apple does go ahead with this grubby device or at least its capacitive home button, we might see new touch or gesture controls for the bezel area below the screen à la webOS, as suggested by an earlier patent. But hey, let’s not take this too seriously for now — all this could turn out to be just a much belated April Fools’ prank, right?

Dell’s 10-inch Windows 7 tablet staying hidden until fall

Dell’s Rosemount tablet is similar to the HP Slate in that it’s a 10-inch, business-centric Windows 7 tablet whose launch has been bumped back further than originally expected. To be clear, this isn’t an explicit delay, since Dell has never given official indication for when in 2011 it’ll launch the slate device, but a leaked tablet roadmap back in February suggested it would be with us in the warm and breezy days of June. Now, Forbes is reporting insider info that states the Rosemount won’t be hitting shops until fall, September at the earliest, meaning it’ll miss the back-to-school sales period but arrive with plenty of time for the holiday shopping rush. Let’s hope all this time taken leads to a finger-friendly software overlay for Windows 7 — we love the OS’ multivariate functionality but it was never designed for control with the imprecision of fleshy digits.

Alienware’s M14x revealed: classic middle-child overachiever, none of the simmering sibling resentment

First, Alienware’s M17x got a bit of spit and polish with a new Sandy Bridge CPU and a 3D display, then the M11x got Intel’s speedy new silicon too. Now, the middle alien child appears to have gotten a similar makeover. Christened the M14x, rumor has it that Alienware’s newest portable rig packs an Intel Core i7-2820QM 2.3 GHz CPU, up to a 750GB 7200RPM HDD, 256GB SATA2 or SATA3 SDD, a robust NVIDIA GT555M GPU, LTE or WiMAX connectivity, and your choice of 14-inch screens: either a 1366 x 768 display or a Full HD 1920 x 1080 LCD. Following its big brother’s lead, the M14x also rolls with a pair of Klipsch speakers for hi-fi fragging. No word on when this mothership lands, but with those specs, we wouldn’t mind making first contact — would you?

Next-gen iPod nano chassis hints at camera?

Here’s yet another juicy leak from China to go with your breakfast. Delivered by the same folks who brought us the sixth-gen iPod nano display module leak, this time we have what appears to be a chassis for the next touchscreen nano. According to Apple.pro, the circular hole at the top right is likely to house a little camera, which would bring back the good old days with the camera-donning fifth-gen nano. Obviously, to make space for such an imager here, the spring-loaded clip on the back would have to be downsized and shifted, which would explain why the four screws are off-centered here, unlike those on the current-gen nano (as seen in iFixit’s teardown shot after the break). That said, let’s not forget that this rumor is coming straight out of KIRFdom, so we’ll remain skeptical until this baby pops out around September time, as has been the case with most nano launches in the past.

Images leak out of Pentax NC mirrorless camera system, makes us long for summertime

At this point, we’re guessing that it’s just a matter of time before the likes of Pentax and Nikon toss their hat into the ever-expanding mirrorless camera ring, and at least for the former, it looks as if that could come sooner rather than later. If the (predictably grainy) image above is to be believed, the NC-1 is dangerously close to being ready for primetime, and according to leaked materials, it’ll be the world’s smallest mirrorless camera when it gets official in May / June. Purportedly, we’ll find a 14 megapixel sensor and a pair of lenses to choose from — an 8.5mm f/1.9 prime lens as well as a 5-15mm f/2.8-4.5 standard zoom. Crazier still, the NC system could be followed by a larger system in the summer, with that fellow sporting an APS-C sized sensor and compatibility with K-mount lenses. ‘Course, we’d invite you to chase all of this with a dash of salt for now, but you can bet we’ll be scrounging for more.
