Hasta La Gadget!

So, how do you feel about the look of this myTouch 3G HD we’ve been seeing this week? Haven’t formed a complete opinion yet? Well, maybe this new shot — seemingly of said phone’s backside — will help. As we’ve seen on past models, the rear features a tastefully-sized myTouch logo, lending a dose of credibility to the picture that seems to have been covertly snapped off a monitor where the render was being shown. In other words, we don’t have much reason to doubt this thing — and considering that the Vibrant isn’t a member of the myTouch line, T-Mobile’s overdue for a refreshed non-QWERTY Android device in that segment of the market. Should be an interesting few months for these guys, no?

Someone should really tell T-Mobile USA it’s got a rather large hole that needs plugged. Hot on the heels of the (presumably) T-Mob-bound G1 Blaze leak comes this duo, which includes a purported leak of the myTouch HD (or 3G HD) as well as a web portal that quite clearly prepares us for the launch of the carrier’s first HSPA+ smartphone. Of course, there’s no official confirmation that the handset you’re peering at above is anything more than a fan render, but it certainly has a look of authenticity to it; sadly, there aren’t any rumored specifications to tag alongside the JPG, but it’s a pretty safe bet that this one will run some flavor of Android and rely heavily on screen presses for letter input. As for the promo page? Scrutineers have drawn a link between it and the Vanguard that we peeked a few weeks back, so feel free to let your imagination run a bit wild there. Looks like it’s gearing up to be quite the second half for America’s number two GSM operator.

A candybar slate from HTC with a 3.7-inch SLCD and 1GHz Snapdragon processor — sounds about right for the Desire, but this little puppy is actually running Windows Phone 7 (presumably a developer build, given the apps catalog). According to our tipster, the three buttons under the screen are touch-sensitive à la Nexus One, the camera boasts 8 megapixels of memory retention, and the “hardware is ready.” What you’re not seeing, however, is any sign of skinning — no Sense on this one, we’re afraid. The company is apparently in talks with two US carriers, including Verizon (we’d presume Sprint given the CDMA connection, but we’ve no insight here). Are we looking at the rumored VZW-bound HTC Spark from June? Unfortunately we can’t confirm anything at this point, so for now, just enjoy the tantalizing snapshots.

The latest word from behind Apple-authorized cashiers is that Cupertino has stopped shipping out fresh stock of its entry-level 21-inch iMac. The Core 2 Duo-equipped machines were already looking long in the tooth in this Core i-something era, and so predictably the latest speculation centers around the idea of Apple taking its full iMac range into Core i3, i5 and i7 territory. Nobody really knows any of the specs for the moment, but resellers are apparently being advised to sell through what stock they have and to “keep inventories lean” for the next few weeks. Considering Apple’s last all-in-one overhaul coincided with the introduction of the Magic Mouse, we’re starting to suspect the company might have another iMac plus touch input device combo coming — potentially in the very near future.

It’s hard to say that a CEO whose company has grown from $23 billion in revenue to $54 billion during his 10 year tenure isn’t doing his job, but The Daily Beast is reporting on a small, vocal (and of course, anonymous) minority within Microsoft that wants Steve Ballmer out on the curb. The main criticism seems to be the share price, which has oddly tracked in inverse with Microsoft’s revenue: it’s about half of its $48.93 value back in January 2000 when Ballmer took over. With the strong support of his board and an another supposedly positive earnings call coming later today, it’s hard to call Steve’s position as “shaky” at the company, but with whispers of infighting, a symbolic battle with Apple over market capitalization, and a do-or-die mobile launch coming up, it’s clear that he’s under a lot of pressure to deliver. Right now any talks of replacement are hearsay and analyst fodder at best, but we’ll be watching to see how this rumor develops during this 30th year of Ballmer’s career at the company.
