At this point, we don’t even know if HP’s Slate is still hitting the market — but one thing we do know is that there’s no evidence to suggest that the company will be releasing it with webOS instead of Windows 7. In fact, the two platforms are so wildly different and targeted for such disjoint devices — never mind the fact that HP and Palm aren’t yet united in the legal sense of the word — that there’s virtually no chance that the existing Slate hardware could be effectively used in time for a near-term webOS tablet launch (at least, not a tablet that anyone would want to buy). There’s word on Gizmodo today that the Slate will be offered as a webOS device, but that appears to be a misinterpretation of a DigiTimes report from HP Taiwan that the company intends to use Palm’s operating system to underpin both “smartphones and tablets,” while avoiding porting it to netbooks since they’re “more similar in functions with traditional computers.” Given the Slate’s lukewarm reception, we can totally understand HP canning it in its current incarnation — but you can’t just drop a flashy mobile platform onto it and call it good. Interestingly, the DigiTimes report goes on to say (on an unrelated note) that the Slate will come to market before October, but it’s unclear whether they’re taking into account the most recent round of rumors that it’s been deep-sixed; guess we’ll know soon enough.

You might’ve been intrigued by the previous show of the BlackBerry Bold 9800 slider, but this new series of images blows those all out of water. The Berry Fix has a plethora of pics for your perusal, chief among them a showing of the virtual keyboard to complement the physical QWERTY. We gotta say, every announce of good design sense lost on the 9670 must have been spent on this guy; we’re really intrigued by this one. If that wasn’t enough, we’ve got two more details that’ll tickle your fancy: an AT&T splash screen for one, and claims from the article’s author (via Twitter) that RIM’s not using SurePress here. That’d actually be quite a relief, but until we get our hands on the sucker, let’s just curb our enthusiasm, mkay?

Clearly a white front plate was not enough to satisfy curiosity. Though we aren’t able to verify this ourselves, Chinese site Apple.pro has a couple shots of what it claims to be the white next-gen iPhone, almost fully assembled (the front plate looks like it hasn’t been snapped in all the way) and casually lounging next to the black model we’ve gazed upon so many times at this point. Is this enough for us to trust and comfortably change our palette preferences? Nah, but surely 15 days until expected confirmation can’t be too excruciating of a wait.

Hey, you there, wanna check out some unreleased new hardware from NVIDIA? Donanimhaber, the same site that brought us early (and accurate) specs of the GTX 470 and 480, is back with the above shot of an ASUS-built GTX 465 that is intended to entice the more mainstream crowd into the Fermi party. Essentially a GF100 with its wingtips trimmed, this’ll offer the same 607MHz graphics and 1,215MHz processor clock speeds of the 470, but comes with a narrower 256-bit memory interface, a tamer 3.2GHz effective memory clock, 352 rather than 448 CUDA cores, and — happily — lower power requirements. This word is also corroborated by Bit-tech, whose scribes expect a launch at the start of Computex. The Turkish site also has news of a GTX 460, which they say will show up in the middle of July with 768MB of GDDR5, while also being “cheaper and slower” than the 465. Put on your conductor hat and overalls, because it’s time to take the rumor train to Atomsville. DigiTimes is reporting that Intel is cooking up another new dual-core Atom processor, this one called the N550, and that netbooks using it will have to feature at least 1GB of DDR3 memory and 32GB of SSD or 250GB of platters. That’s hardly revolutionary, but slightly more interesting is an allowance for netbook makers using the chip to bump up their maximum screen size to 12.1-inches. That’s a sizeable increase over the current 10.2-inch maximum and could further blur the line between net and note… assuming this train reaches the station.
