OCZ’s Colossus desktop SSD line ships next week

OCZ Technology has been trumpeting its Colossus SSD desktop solution since June, but due to some strange issues with the housing that have been troubling engineers for the past few months, the company has been forced to quietly push back the expected release date. At any rate, the company has informed us that the drives — which will arrive in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB flavors and tout maximum read / writes rates of 260MB/s — will begin shipping to retailers “next week.” If you’re lucky, you might catch one or two e-tailers selling their stock early, but first you’ll need to figure out where exactly that $300, $650, $1,200 or $2,200 (in order of mention) is going to come from.

FLO TV Personal Television now on sale for $250, should be in cereal boxes soon

Look, we fully understand that someone, somewhere put a lot of time and effort into designing a $250 handheld that does nothing but watch pixelated mobile TV for a lofty per-month price, but seriously, there has to be better uses of one’s time. The 3.5-inch FLO TV Personal Television is on sale today at Amazon, Best Buy and RadioShack, though we suspect that the $249.99 up front price will probably keep most potential buyers at bay. Six months of service are included, but afterwards you’ll be paying at least $8.99 per month (and a rate that low requires a three-year contract) to keep the signals flowing. If we’re being honest, this thing is still more useful than Celio’s REDFLY, but that sure ain’t sayin’ much.

Creative’s ZEN X-Fi2 touchscreen PMP now on sale

Candidly speaking, we can’t honestly envision too many of you fine folks running out and purchasing one of Creative’s new ZEN X-Fi2 portable media players given the availability of such robust alternatives. That said, we’d be remiss of our duties if we didn’t point out that the PMP which shocked us at IFA is now on sale directly from Creative. $129.99 buys you an 8GB model, while $179.99 nets you 16GB and $229.99 provides 32GB. We know — that 3-inch LCD and integrated FM tuner look good from afar, but remember kids, it’s all about the UI.

Rejoice! BlackBerry support arrives on Celio REDFLY

We heard it’d be here in mid-Q4, and sure enough, it’s here. And by “it,” we mean “BlackBerry support for Celio’s largely unwanted REDFLY Mobile Companion.” Starting today, those looking for the Foleo‘s long lost cousin can snap up a REDFLY and download a free driver that adds compatibility for RIM’s BlackBerry Bold 9000, Curve 8900 and Tour 9630. Granted, it’s not like the BlackBerry web browser will be any less painful to use on an enlarged screen, but hey, whatever suits your fancy.

Nokia’s N97 mini gets its shipping papers

Right on cue, the smaller-but-just-barely N97 mini is now ready for public consumption over in Europe. Granted, we’re certainly at the tail end of October, but we can’t say that we caught Nokia in a lie or anything based on what was said last month in Stuttgart. You’ve already committed the specifications to memory and read all about firmware 2.0, so now all that’s left to do is run along, fork out €450 ($667) and wonder forever if this decision will positively or negatively change the course of your life.

Vuzix Wrap 310 video eyewear ships out to virtual big-screen lovers

Vuzix’s $249.95 Wrap 310 is probably the least hideous / heinous of the video eyewear options on the market today, and while it’s still take a few bottles of Jack to get us to rock these with a smile, those who are just high on life can now make a set their own. In case you’re forgotten, these things provide a virtual 55-inch screen in front of your eyes, and there’s support for iPod / iPhone connections as well as basic sources such as DVD players and the like. And hey, there’s also the possibility that these could be used in augmented reality applications in the future, so feel free to considering this some sort of futuristic investment. Just like those Y2K preparedness tapes you bought in ’99.

Patriot’s $130 Box Office 1080p media player streams on the cheap

Eying a Popcorn Hour device, are you? We know Patriot isn’t exactly the first name you think of when pondering your next media streamer, but the $129.99 price tag affixed to the black box shown above definitely piqued our interest. Like most of its rivals, this one features a 2.5-inch HDD slot (though you’ll need to bring your own drive, obviously), a trio of USB sockets, 10/100 Ethernet for content streaming, UPnP support, a rather decent file support list and a bundled remote. There’s also an optional USB WiFi adapter for those not keen on running 80 feet of Ethernet cabling through their den, and while the GUI won’t revolutionize your life, it certainly ain’t bad given the low barrier to entry. Too bad it’s still stuck in that painful-to-watch “pre-order” stage, huh?

MSI retools Wind Box DE200 and DC200, puts ’em up for pre-order

Well, what do you know? Last we saw MSI’s Wind Box DE200, it was sittin’ pretty at a booth at CeBIT. Evidently it has seen quite the makeover since that debut, with the latest imagery showing it (alongside the DC200) with far edgier enclosures. We have to say we dig the new digs, but we’re most excited about the US pricing and pre-order pages. Both units are still (under)powered by a 1.6GHz Atom CPU, and predictably, both feature 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and Windows XP Home running the show. No firm release date has been nailed down for the US market, but Amazon has ’em both up for pre-order right now at $249.99 (DC200) / $299.99 (DE200).

Zoom’s high-fidelity Q3 pocket camcorder ships to America

Hailed as the first and only handheld video recorder to record HD audio, Zoom’s Q3 Handy Video recorder is definitely a unique offering amongst the legions of me-toos. After being announced in July and tickling our senses right around a month ago, the Q3 has finally begun to ship en masse to eager consumers. Just in case you’ve forgotten, this bugger records 24-bit/48 kHz audio via a pair of condenser microphones, gets powered by two AA cells and captures video at 640 x 480 (30fps). There’s also a 2.4-inch 320 x 240 LCD and an SDHC card slot, though you’ll have to shell out $249 in order to get this kind of technology into your own pocket. Order up, kids!

MSI’s 14-inch X-Slim X400 now shipping in the US of A

It’s a little tough to believe that it took MSI this many months to bring its X-Slim X400 from the trade show floor to the digital market place, but at long last, the outfit’s 14-inch slimster is finally on sale here in the States. For those badly in need of a refresher, $799.99 gets you a 1.3GHz SU2700 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, WXGA panel, GMA 4500MHD GPU, WiFi, 4-cell battery, HDMI / VGA ports, a pair of USB sockets, a multicard reader, external DVD burner and a three-year warranty. As expected, Vista comes loaded on, though we suspect an upgrade voucher to Windows 7 will be bundled in for good measure.
