Hasta La Gadget!

JVC introduced its HD Everio GZ-HM400 in Japan way back in late July, but at long last, the time has come for the Yanks in attendance to grab one as their own. Shipping now (as in, right now) here on US soil, the Full HD camcorder packs a 10.3 megapixel sensor, 32GB of internal storage, an SD / SDHC expansion slot and the ability to capture stills at 9 megapixels. Over on the video side, users will have access to a trio of slow-motion recording modes (600fps, 300fps and 120fps), though we can’t express in mere words how disheartened we are to hear that this thing utilizes the thoroughly worthless AVCHD format. If you aren’t bothered in the least by that, you can pick yours up now for a nickel shy of a grand.

Surely we aren’t the only technophiles in attendance champing at the bit to find out if Samsung’s fresh YP-M1 has some of NVIDIA’s hotness inside, but it seems as if we’ll still have to wait a bit longer to find out. Right on cue, the AMOLED-equipped portable media player has launched over in South Korea, bringing with it a laundry list of supported file formats, a WQVGA panel, up to 32GB of inbuilt storage and even a DMB TV tuner. If anyone feels like sashaying over to Seoul in order to crack one open and find out what it’s really made of, then by all means, be our guest. Just try not to wander too close to that DMZ — we hear Bill Clinton’s rescue fees are through the roof.

It’s been a long (long!) time coming, but we’re thrilled to finally be able to say that OPPO’s multifaceted BDP-83 is shipping en masse to those willing to part with five bills (or $500, for those working without conversion tables). During our time with the player, we were duly impressed with most every aspect, and if you’re still on the hunt for a Blu-ray player that can spin DVD-Audio and SACD on the side, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better option than this. So, who’s taking the plunge?

Without a doubt, the next big thing in the world of HDTVs is internet capabilities. With Toshiba just shipping its own web-enabled sets this week, LG Electronics is making sure it doesn’t fall too far behind by floating a few of its own NetCast models out to the open market. Originally unveiled at CES, these HDTVs are the first from the company with built-in Netflix streaming support, and if you’re curious about model numbers, it’s the 47-inch 47LH50 LCD HDTV and the 50-inch 50PS80 plasma that are available today. LG tells us that the 42-inch 42LH50 LCD and 60-inch 60PS80 plasma should hit later this summer, but if you’re looking to buy now, you’ll have to pony up $1,999 for the 47LH50 or 50PS80.

Just under two months. That’s how long it took Nokia’s N86 8MP to go from FCC to store shelves here in America, as the cats in Espoo have just announced to the world that the aforementioned cellphone is now shipping globally. In case you’ve forgotten, this 8 megapixel slider touts variable aperture, a mechanical shutter and automatic motion blur reduction, not to mention 8GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot. There’s no official mention of price, and as of right now, the phone’s not even listed on Nokia’s American e-store; still, based on early estimates, we’d say you best break out the bank just in case.
