Okay, this one’s a complete and very welcome surprise — some extremely blurry pictures and a quick video of what appears to be a smaller Motorola portrait QWERTY Android slider for Verizon just popped up on the Chinese Hiapk forums — and yes, it’s got the glowing red Droid eye. We’re not sure if that means the Droid line is about to get a smaller midrange sibling or what, but Motorola’s definitely pushing out some of the more interesting Android form factors lately, and this mini Droid certainly fits right in with the Flipout and the Charm. Well, that didn’t take long, did it? Just earlier today we were talking about how the Intercept was starting to make its way into bits and pieces of Sprint’s system, but now, the announcement’s here and it’s the real deal. Most notably, the Android-powered landscape QWERTY slider will go to market for under $100 (by a penny, anyway) on contract after rebate, making it a value-oriented alternative for the monsters like the EVO 4G and Epic 4G that Sprint is pushing on the high end. Of course, if you pay a midrange price, you’re going to get midrange features; the 3.2 megapixel cam with video capture, isn’t going to blow anyone away, and amazingly, Sammy has gone with an EV-DO Rev. 0 radio (as opposed to Rev. A) which means you’ll be limping along with slower data speeds than you’d expect from your average modern CDMA smartphone. Look for it to hit Sprint’s site and stores starting this Sunday, July 11. For reasons seemingly known only to Peter Chou himself, HTC has mostly steered clear of producing high-quality physical QWERTY devices running Android, despite the fact that there might be no phone manufacturer in the world more skilled at making them (let us remind you of the Touch Pro2, among many others dating back the better part of a decade). Anyhow, we caught wind last month of a possible entry in the form of the so-called “Vision,” but we didn’t have any visuals — just a user agent profile that may or may not amount to anything. Well, that seems to be changing today with a couple blurry shots out of a Croatian site that allegedly shows the goods featuring a 3.7-inch display, a 1GHz processor (Snapdragon, we assume), and Android 2.1 with Sense (the launcher looks like stock Android in this photo, but the status bar is clearly HTC custom). At a glance, it doesn’t seem to be the prettiest thing in the world — but for a form factor traditionally associated with power users and suits, this might be just the ticket.

Looks like the Moment‘s over for Samsung and Sprint — check out these leaked shots of the SPH-M910 Intercept, said to be the carrier’s new mid-range Android slider. Screen size is said to be the same at 3.2 inches, and the keyboard certainly looks much nicer, but we can’t help but be bummed to hear this thing will launch Froyo-free with Android 2.1 — a 2.2 update is said to be a “high probability,” but it took Samsung and Sprint some seven months to update the Moment to 2.1, so we’re not holding our breath. The rumored launch date is July 11, so we’ll see how much of this is true around then — for now, we’re betting Samsung will be doing its best to keep us focused on Galaxy S sets like the Epic 4G.

That rumored Galaxy S Pro is very real and very official for Sprint this evening, ‘cept it’s not actually called the Galaxy S Pro — instead, it’ll be known as the Epic 4G when it comes to market “in the coming months.” Like the EVO 4G before it, the Epic 4G sort of blows everything out of the water on paper: 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 5 megapixel primary camera with LED flash and 720p video recording paired with a VGA front-facing cam for video calls, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, six-axis accelerometer, and a 1GHz Hummingbird core. Oh, and of course let’s not forget those EV-DO Rev. A and WiMAX radios, the latter of which will earn you theoretical downlink speeds in excess of 10Mbps — speeds that will work nicely with the phone’s five-device mobile hotspot support (three devices fewer than the EVO 4G, interestingly).

As software goes, the Epic 4G will be running Samsung’s reworked version of Android 2.1 offering features like DLNA support and Social Hub. In other words, this is the closest you’re going to get to an EVO 4G with a landscape QWERTY slide — and at 14.2mm thick, you’re only about a millimeter and a half thicker than HTC’s entry. Like AT&T’s Captivate, the Epic 4G is being described as “a Galaxy S smartphone,” so it’s pretty clear that Samsung’s looking to group all of these things under a global brand with big-time name recognition. Neither pricing nor a launch date have been announced — but hey, the EVO deserves a few more days in the spotlight, wouldn’t you say? Follow the break for Sprint’s press release.
