Always Innovating’s half-finished online store lists Touch Book tablet in stock, $99 keyboard sold separately

Remember Always Innovative’s Touch Book? Looks like the company’s gearing up to start selling the rather unique netbook / removable tablet hybrid, as noted by its under construction X-Cart powered online store. Four entries are currently listed — two for the Touch Book tablet and two for the keyboard, both available in grey and red and with 100 units in stock for each. Prices were $299 for the tablet and $99 for keyboard and, yeah, we get the feeling you’ll want to buy both for the full experience. No indication of an actual ship date. Try as we might, we couldn’t manage to check out with our order, but perhaps we’ll get some news shortly.

Update: We’ve been contacted by Always Innovating, who confirmed that the store was viewable by way of an error, and that the Touch Book can still be pre-ordered for summer shipping. The company also confirmed that the keyboard will be available separately for $99, the tablet for $299, with the whole deal going for $399.

[Thanks, Jeff]

Michael Arrington Addresses Leaked CrunchPad Pictures

crunchpadb5.jpg

When Michael Arrington asks for something, people tend to listen. Back in July of last year, the TechCrunch founder posted about his dream project–a $300 touchscreen tablet with no hard drive, designed to simply surf the Web. That project, naturally, was deemed the CrunchPad.

Pictures of the device have subsequently “leaked out,” showing up, among other place’s on Arrington’s own CrunchGear site.

The blogger addressed the leak today on TechCrunch, writing,

[F]rankly we weren’t planning on talking about it at all, it just isn’t the right time yet. But, to make a long story short, someone accidentally published some photos we took to the Web.

The device is admittedly not yet ready for prime time. So, did the device really leak out without Arrington’s consent? Did he intend to float the thing to gadget blogs he knew would be more than willing to snap up a few blurry shots? My guess is that either way, Arrington’s enjoying the added traffic push this morning.

Crunchpad: Photos of TechCrunch’s Delicious Web Tablet

The web tablet TechCrunch is working on is apparently still alive, seeing as it just showed up in Michael Arrington’s posterous. UPDATED

The photos are now down from his posterous and Arrington declined to give us any more details or specs.
From the techcrunch twitterfeed:

fyi on the crunchpad buzz, photos were removed. apologies, they weren’t ready for publication yet. added to our posterous account in error

More from TechCrunch, which has come forward with more details:

What you see is a prototype, equipped with an Intel Atom processor and a 12″ capacitative touchscreen.

Check out the keyboard.

I love this thing. Techcrunch will have more details next week.

Gigabyte posts T1028 TouchNote product page, user manual

Gigabyte’s T1028 TouchNote has been cooking on the back burner for weeks now. After we first spotted it lookin’ pretty at CeBIT, the tablet / netbook hybrid has since landed in the FCC’s database and has now shown up officially on the company’s website. The formal specifications list explains that the 10.1-inch machine will boast a swiveling touch panel (LED-backlit), a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, 92 percent full-sized keyboard, embedded HSDPA module, a 2.5-inch 160GB SATA HDD, Bluetooth 2.1, 1.3 megapixel camera, Ethernet, 4-cell battery, WiFi and twin 1.5-watt speakers. Optional equipment includes an Atom N280 CPU, WiMAX module, 1,366 x 768 resolution panel (at least according to the user manual) and a more longevous a 6-cell Li-ion. Now, give us a price and ship date and we’ll be pleased as punch.

ASUS Eee PC T91 arrives at the FCC

We spent come quality time with ASUS’s Eee PC T91 netvertible in Germany at CeBIT, but those of you looking to handle one Stateside don’t have long to wait — it’s just popped up in the FCC database, and we’re sure Uncle Sam’s engineer friends are busy scouring the SAR reports for all kinds of super-interesting technical data as we speak. Or they’re just looking for pretty pictures like we are — and sadly, they’ll be disappointed, because all that’s in the listing so far is this picture of the bottom. Another Saturday night ruined — thanks a lot, FCC.

Leaked Pics: Is This the New Apple Tablet?

Take this one with a grain of salt: An anonymous tipster has exclusive shots of what he claims is that rumored Apple netbook/tablet. The images are suitably blurry–taken most likely with a camera phone or a concealed point-and-shoot camera. If theyre real, they reveal a marked change from the Apple design team.

The touch screen is present on the device, though it seems to be much smaller than expected. Likely because of this, there are also a lot more buttons on the device than, say, on the iPhone, iPod touch, or new Shuffle. Also, the color scheme for the device is a pretty bold shift from past models.

If this is indeed the new tablet, Apples entering some brave new territory with this device. Get ready for Cupertino to shake up the consumer electronics industry yet again. Check out the exclusive pics, after the jump.

Motion brings Verizon WWAN, SSD, other upgrades to C5 and F5 tablet PCs

It’s been a solid tick since Motion Computing overhauled its F5 Slate PC, but all that’s changing (seriously) today. As you can tell, the device now sports a freshened look with a black exterior to “better withstand dirty and dusty mobile work environments.” Additionally, the C5 tablet is joining in for the rest of the upgrades, which include inbuilt support for Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO network, Intel’s WiFi Link 5300 series 802.11a/g/n, Core 2 Duo CPU options, improved battery life, a 64GB SSD option and an external battery charger for hardcore field users. The Motion F5 gets going at $2,699, while the C5 starts up at $500 less; both machines are shipping now to the company’s network of resellers and distributors, and the release can be peeked in full just after the break.

Dreamcast tablet is a handsome, portable solution for your discontinued gaming needs

This isn’t the first Dreamcast mod we’ve seen around here, not by a long shot — but it’s surely one of the most elegant. Built around a 15-inch LCD, this guy is a scant 2 1/4-inches thick, but it gets up to 3.5 hours of playtime on a full charge, sports an A/V out, one watt stereo sound, and a custom-built tray loading GD-ROM — just the thing for playing House of the Dead 2 on the go. We won’t belabor the point — just make sure you check out the mod-licious video after the break.

Archos’ Android-based MID on track for July?

It hasn’t been much of a secret that Archos has an Android-based tablet / MID in the works, but it looks like the company is now finally talking a bit more openly about it, and dropping a few choice details in its recent year-end results announcement. The key bit is that the company is apparently planning to release the device “at the start of Q3 2009,” which is actually fairly specific as far as these announcements go, though no doubt still subject to change if Archos sees fit. Otherwise, the only word on the MID is that it will pack some telephony features and, of course, include all of Archos’ usual multimedia applications.
