Intel's Core i5 750 spotted in the box, hastily removed and photographed
If you’re itching to get your hands on Intel’s latest mid-range supremo, here’s another good sign. Last week it was a dual-retail listing of the so-called 570 entrant of the upcoming Core i5 line, now we have pictures of the 750’s retail box and specs — making us wonder if, perhaps, those two retailers don’t share a case of mild dyslexia. This new source has a definite case of Русский язык, but from what we can glean from our high-school Russian lessons (and a little help from The Googles) this is, again, a 2.66GHz chip with 8MB of cache that’s due in the very near future. This site mentions the price as “estimated at $196,” a bit cheaper than we’ve seen so far and perhaps good tidings for bargains to come. Stay tuned for more info on that front, but go ahead and click on over for more pictures of this chip and its companion heat sink.

[Thanks, Doniyor]

VIZIO VBR100 Blu-ray player freed from superstore confines, unboxed on video

We’d heard VIZIO’s VBR100 BD-Live ready (& timed Wal-mart exclusive) Blu-ray player would be making an appearance this month, and our friends over at FormatWarCentral have not only spotted the rare bird in the wild, but brought one home and performed a video unboxing for all to experience. Be prepared for bad news like a lack of high definition cables included in the $178 package, though coax and optical audio outputs plus the too often-forgotten rear mounted USB port are welcome bonuses. Still avoiding the potential trampling issue at Wal-mart? Other stores should have a similar VBR110 model soon, check the video beyond the link or embedded after the break and imagine the packaging splayed about your own living room.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G unboxing

Our attention is still vaguely fixed on that Hero off in the distance, but let’s focus for just a minute — the myTouch 3G for T-Mobile is now in our well-guarded possession as it trudges toward a late July release for those lucky enough to pre-order. Other than a few silkscreened details, make no mistake — the myTouch is literally an HTC Magic in basically all but name (we compare it with a Rogers-branded Magic in our gallery below so you can see what we mean), and all things considered, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Like all of its Magic contemporaries, the phone feels small and well-balanced in the hand; one unique detail, though, is the crazy packaging which consists of a semi-soft zippered nylon case enclosed by a paper sleeve. It’s cool, different, and unlike a regular box, it’s something you’ll probably want to hold on to.

This is the first time we’ve seen it in that “merlot” shade, and in person, this is a great-looking color that could play well with anybody — man or woman, business or casual. It’s a touch of highlight without going overboard (unlike, say, the actual Highlight). Software-wise, this is looking like a bone-stock Android 1.5 build so far (notice the keyboard, for example), which plays with T-Mobile’s prior statements that its software value-add with these sets would primarily come through Market downloads. Stay tuned for our full review, but in the meantime, enjoy some visuals!

ASUS’ Eee PC 1101HA netbook gets unboxed on video, shown in black

Unlike ASUS’ Eee PC 1005HA, which seemed to ship just days after debuting, the company’s 1101HA is taking its sweet time in going from “real” to “really available” here in America. This next member in the expanding Seashell range boasts a larger-than-usual 11.6-inch display and can be ordered with optional 3G (eventually, anyway), and the good folks over at NewGadgets managed to get ahold of one and unbox it for the cameras. Better still, they undressed a glossy black unit, which is noticeably different than the shiny white version we’ve seen thus far. Care to have a look? It’s all there just after the break.

Insignia NS-HD01 portable HD radio hands-on and impressions

HD Radio has been desperately trying for years to become important in a world where most Americans are perfectly fine with tinny, 96kbps MP3s, and by and large, it’s been unsuccessful. More vehicles today arrive with compatibility for a single shining portable media player (Apple’s iPod, if you had to ask) than HD Radio, and up until this month, there was no way to easily strap an HD Radio player on your arm when heading out to the gym. One could argue that getting the technology into this segment is crucial for being ubiquitous, and while we aren’t so sure we’re in that camp just yet, we’re still willing to give Insignia’s NS-HD01 a fighting chance. Head on past the break for our take, and feel free to peruse the gallery for an up close and personal look at the hardware.

Ultrasone Edition 8 headphones hands-on and impressions

Ultrasone’s been kickin’ out $1.5k headphones for as long as we can remember, and it only takes a glimpse at the Edition 9s from 2006 to see just how far we’ve come. The newest model, curiously titled the Edition 8, was initially announced a few months back, and we’ve just now been able to stuff our cranium between its Ethiopian sheepskin-covered earcups and hear ’em out. We’ve listened to our fair share of audio products over the years, and we definitely feel as if these are some of the most exquisite we’ve had the pleasure of experiencing. Still, with a $1,500 price tag, it’ll take a little more than “yeah, these are pretty wicked” to win us over. Head on past the break for our two pennies.

HTC Hero freed from generic box, called best Android device yet

It’s not officially available yet, but the fine folks at Android Community have gotten their hands on a HTC Hero and posted up a quick unboxing and overview. Their unit is an unaffiliated generic whitebox model, so it’s likely that the retail packaging the rest of us see from carriers will be different, but none of that changes the device itself, which AC thinks is the “best Android device to date.” That’s quite a statement, but we’re inclined to agree — we’ll see if anything changes when we get that US 3G version in our hands. More pics at the read link, video after the break.

Samsung Galaxy GT-I7500 unboxed, “Google Experience” distinction now clear as mud

The HTC Hero and T-Mobile myTouch 3G aren’t the only Android phones making waves this week: the Samsung Galaxy GT-I7500 also launched on O2 Germany, and this is the first unboxing we’ve seen. Continuing the confusion over what handsets actually get the full Google blessing, this version of the I7500 runs pretty much bone-stock Android, but isn’t a “Google Experience” phone, which in this case apparently means that firmware updates have to be loaded manually over USB instead of being pushed over the air. If you’re keeping track, that’s now a third axis of differentiation between Google-branded Android handsets and everything else, and we’re starting to think no one really knows what all the rules and differences actually are — hey, Eric, maybe you could set down that BlackBerry for a minute and sort all this out?

Verizon BlackBerry Tour unboxing

You might say that Verizon’s brand new BlackBerry Tour 9630ahem, took a “tour” through our offices this morning, gracing us with its QWERTY-having, global-roaming, 8830-killing presence. There’s absolutely no question it’s the best-looking CDMA BlackBerry to date and we also think you’ll be able to stop Bold owners in their tracks as you flash this thing around town; we’d argue that the Curve 8900 is still a cuter handset when you take the company’s lineup as a whole, but then again, the 8900 lacks 3G, and the Tour’s keyboard might just be the best RIM’s ever crafted for a phone. Bottom line, owners of any BlackBerry on Verizon or Sprint should be salivating at the sight of this thing — and if they’re not, honestly, they need their salivary glands checked. Stay tuned for our full review, but in the meantime, enjoy an unboxing and a few quick shots of the Tour taking its first breaths!

Olympus PEN E-P1 production unit unboxed, we shudder with jealousy

Some jerk in the UK went and bought an Olympus PEN E-P1 camera from a store and had to go home and tell the whole internet about it. They even bothered to shoot an unboxing of the little Micro Four Thirds wonder, like we would care.
