Kohjinsha DZ gets unboxed and stretched out

It’s been a good while since we’ve seen an unboxing as thorough as this, even if the quality of the recording could be better. The chaps over at Wow Pow have sourced one of them dual-screen Kohjinsha DZ netbooks, which have had us intrigued since we saw them at CEATEC earlier this year. What we find from their cardboard adventuring is that the DZ comes with a LiteOn charger, a 6-cell 5,200mAh battery with endurance rated at four hours (though they’ve suggested that might be for only one screen), a 1Seg tuner that works only in Japan, and a multitouch trackpad. Powered by a 1.6GHz AMD Neo and 4 gigs of RAM, this machine definitely wants to escape the netbook tag, and its neat inclusion of an internal USB port intended for wireless connectivity dongles gives it another unorthodox selling point. Dell’s Adamo XPS now shipping to some (and we’ve got pics to prove it)

Dell’s 9.99mm thin Adamo XPS wasn’t supposed to ship to even the earliest orderers until December 22nd, but it seems as if a minor Christmas miracle has happened over at Adam’s office. In fact, those ordering one of these slimsters today won’t see it until mid-January, but if you got in early, there just might be hope for you yet. Oh, and if you’re pretty certain that your order will simply be delayed indefinitely as Old Man Winter holds you down, feel free to cheer yourself up by perusing the gallery below. Or slip into an infinite loop of depression — your call.

Acer Liquid A1 unboxed, video style

The Acer Liquid A1 just started shipping in the UK, and right on cue we’ve got a video unboxing. Turns out the box housing the 1GHz Snapdragon-powered Android set is fairly interesting itself, with a magnetic hinged design that opens to reveal the charger, manuals, and bundled 2GB SanDisk microSD card and SD adapter. As for the phone, don’t hold out for an Android 2.0 surprise — it’s running Android 1.6 with Acer’s custom Spinlets UI skin on top, which equals a frowny-face from us. Hopefully Acer manages to update things if this guy ever comes to the States, but for now we’ll just let you head past the break and check the video for yourselves — we’re sorry about the terrible Owl City soundtrack, but we had nothing to do with it.

Pogoplug second generation unboxing

Cloud Engines’ new iteration of Pogoplug just landed on our doorstep, oddly enough packed with an unopened pack of microwavable popcorn (something tells us we’re missing a joke here). HP iPAQ Glisten unboxing and hands-on

As you take a 30-second tour of your local AT&T store this month, the iPAQ Glisten from HP isn’t likely to catch your eye; it’s just another QWERTY smartphone without much curb appeal, after all. If you take a step back, though, this unassuming piece of gadgetry is actually quite interesting on a number of levels: it’s just the third device to launch on AT&T with Windows Mobile 6.5 out of the box (though the Jack has been upgraded since it hit the market), it’s got an AMOLED display, it features the exceedingly rare portrait-QWERTY-plus-touchscreen form factor, and — this is a big one — it apparently once again proves that HP hasn’t abandoned the handset market altogether. Nikon Coolpix S70 unboxing and hands-on

Previous reviews haven’t been all smiles, but we’re finally able to pick up Nikon’s Coolpix S70 and see for ourselves. On form factor alone, it’s a pretty alluring build — even the faux leather front is tastefully done. While the tap-to-focus feature is a nice addition, we’re less enthused about the OLED screen’s viewing angles when outside — and seeing as we’ve go no other way to see the memories we’re framing, that’s pretty disappointing. We’re still putting it through its paces before we dole out full impressions, but in the meantime, enjoy our unboxing and hands-on photos.

HP lets iPAQ Glisten out of the box

The AT&T-bound iPAQ Glisten from HP has been unboxed for our viewing pleasure, video of which can be found immediately after the break. If you’re not in such a hurry though, you’ll want to know it’s an AMOLED-fronted, Qualcomm-powered (533MHz) WinMo 6.5 device, which brings the BlackBerry form factor sans the RIM user experience, but plus a touchscreen. Another thing to note is that AT&T’s online store will be the only place to get it, at the already announced $179.99 after rebates on a two-year deal. The video does a good job of comparing HP’s return to the mobile space with a pair of similar devices, and we’re left with the impression that it’s a pretty chunky machine, but as usual we recommend seeing it for yourself — and you already know where to find it.

Asus Eee Box EB1501 gets unBoxed

With that fancy disc drive, NVIDIA Ion under the hood, and considerable aesthetic improvements, the Eee Box EB1501 has seemingly little to do with the Asus Eee Box of yore. So, is it as stunning in person as it is on paper? The folks at Blogeee.net have unwrapped the thing and stood it on its fancy metal stand, and they seem to be digging it — of course, their impressions are written in French, so we can never be entirely sure. Now if only Asus could work in an internal Blu-ray drive we’d be set! Hands-on video is after the break.

Samsung Omnia II unboxing and hands-on

It’s here at last, and we’re frankly thrilled to be holding Samsung’s very first TouchWiz 2.0 device, the Verizon Wireless-bound Samsung Omnia II. The 2.0 software brings with it a Widget Store, and as a general UI manages to skin over a majority of Windows Mobile 6.5, which is puttering along underneath. The handset is a tad on the bulky side, but makes up for it with a wonderful 3.7-inch AMOLED WVGA screen and a very nice 5 megapixel camera. We’ll have a review for you before long, but for now you can check out a quick video rundown (including some playtime with the Samsung-exclusive “Swype” keyboard) after the break. And if that video is enough to convince you, the phone is available now on Verizon Wireless for $200 after rebate.
