Video: dmedia M0 gets the hands-on treatment

This little devil here’s been bouncing around in some form or another for nearly a year, and now it looks like dmedia’s M0 might actually see the light of day sometime soon. The video shows the 4.3-inch touchscreen device running Windows CE and sporting the specs that we’d been clued into many months ago, including: Samsung 533-800MHz CPU, 800 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, and a 5-megapixel camera. No word yet on a price or Stateside release, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled. Video after the break.

Clearwire sneaks WiMAX into Las Vegas, won’t admit it until Summer

Clearwire‘s been slowly planting its WiMAX seeds around the country, and with nary a peep, it’s rolled out the service into the Las Vegas area, designated by the image above. According to a company rep, the “official” launch — including new store openings and a marketing blitz — will begin this summer, but for now, it’s operational and ready for those in the know. Portland and Atlanta vacationers, you can now watch your online bank account dwindle faster than you ever could before.

Microsoft showing off Windows 7-powered Viliv S5 MID at Computex

Being that Release Candidate 1 just hit the tubes, we weren’t really expecting a big Windows 7 presence at Computex this year. Much to our surprise, Viliv has announced that it will be showcasing the first official Win7-powered MID at the Taiwan-based show later this week. The heralded S5 will be the lucky device, with a duo of WiMAX-equipped cousins (X70 EX and S7) hanging around to demonstrate live video streaming. Needless to say, we’ll be doing everything we can to drop by and see how things are going.

Cisco signs on to provide infrastructure, build Linksys WiMAX routers for Clearwire

Clearwire may not be as ubiquitous as you’d like it to be, but it’s taking a huge step forward in hopes of wildly expanding by linking up with Cisco. In essence, the two have joined hands in order to “enhance and expand CLEAR 4G mobile WiMAX services throughout the United States,” with Cisco providing the core infrastructure and Clearwire providing the guidance. Potentially more interesting is the notion that Cisco’s Linksys brand will soon be delivering “new mobile WiMAX devices,” such as routers that will presumably tune to WiFi and WiMAX waves. Specific product details are sorely absent, though Clearwire does reiterate that it’s hoping to have WiMAX service to more than 80 markets across the US by the end of next year.

Dell injects WiMAX into trio of laptops

While making a point to assert it’s looking into LTE as well, Dell has for now jumped on the WiMAX bandwagon by announcing it’ll offer the technology as an option on its Studio 15, Studio 17, and Studio XPS 16 laptops. US customers can pick the Intel 5150 WiMAX / Wireless-N combo card for $60 under the wireless card tab when customizing. Right now, we’d wager a few people living in Portland, Atlanta, or pockets of Baltimore just got mighty happy.

Gateway’s new Europe-bound NS50, NO50 and NO20 boringtops for businesses

We keep trying to imagine ourselves at the keys of one Gateway’s new NS50, NO50 or NO20 laptops, sucking down a too-small cup of coffee and completely blown away by a game of minesweeper or an Excel spreadsheet, but it’s just not working for us. Gateway played it pretty safe here on design, and while the internals are just fine, full-up with pro-level parts to boost security and wireless performance (there’s even a WiMAX option), we’re not seeing much of anything to really differentiate the line. The NO50 and NS50 both do 15.4-inch screens, while the NO20 goes 12.1-inches. No word on price, but we’re guessing cheap. They all should be available right about now in European retailers.

KT’s Egg gives your WiFi device access to the wonderful world of WiBro

Korea Telecom really wants to get you on the WiBro tip. The aptly-named (if a wee bit uninspired) Egg is essentially a router for connecting WiFi devices (such as the Nintendo DS or iPod Touch) to the company’s wireless broadband network. According to the Korea Times, both KT and SK Telecom (the country’s two main WiBro operators) have mere 170,000 WiBro customers total, “making a mockery” of its “most wired nation” aspirations — so they can certainly stand to expand their customer base a little bit. Subscribers to the company’s flat-rate data plan will get the device for free (trust us, they’ve paid enough). Or you can pick one up for yourself at the Apple store in Samseong-dong or Myeong-dong, the next time you’re in Seoul. This guy should be hitting the shelves sometime in May for ₩220,000 (that’s about $163).

[Thanks, Stafford]

MobiTV demonstrates mixTV mobile DTV service

This one is still only in the very earliest stages, but it looks like MobiTV has taken advantage of the big National Association of Broadcasters Show in Vegas this week to show off a new mobile DTV service that it’s developed in partnership with Sinclair and PBS, which it hopes will eventually find its way to a few interested cellular carriers. The service itself is a combination of free over-the-air DTV broadcasts (from PBS and the CW, at the moment) and subscription-based on-demand content, which would apparently be made available for a seven-day window and be delivered via mobile WiMAX. Unfortunately, there’s no indication whatsoever of a potential roll-out, but it looks like MobiTV will be working hard during the next few days to woo some additional partners, so there’s at least a slight chance that we could be hearing a few more details before the show wraps up later this week.

dmedia renames G400 MID, hopes to showcase M0 at Computex

While dmedia has definitely shown signs of life here lately, we’ve been decidedly left in the lurch with regard to its elusive MID. Initially spotted last November as the WiMAX-packin’ G400, said unit skipped out on promised booth appearances at both CES and Mobile World Congress 2009. Being that we’re the forgiving bunch, we’re still maintaining some level of hope that the recently renamed M0 will indeed make itself seen at Computex this June. Outside of the identity swap, most everything else looks the same; specifications include a 4.3-inch touchscreen (800 x 480 resolution), a 5 megapixel webcam, a Fujitsu-sourced WiMAX module, built-in GPS module and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. Details beyond that are few and far betwixt, but hopefully we’ll know more as warmer months approach.

Gigabyte posts specs for ThinNote S1024 and Booktop M1022

It’s all coming together, folks. Merely hours after Gigabyte hosted up a product portal for its T1028 TouchNote, the same occurrence has just went down for the ThinNote S1024 and Booktop M1022. Both rigs were initially introduced last month at CeBIT, and now you can pretty much bank on ’em shipping stateside within the next little while. As for the M1022, you’ll find it bundled with a vertical docking station and packing an N270 or N280 processor, Windows XP Home, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, WiFi, optional WiMAX / HSDPA and a 6-cell battery. The S1024 netbook contains most of the same hardware, but you’ll have to handcraft your own stand if that you’re thing.
