CE-Oh no he didn’t! Part LXIV: Microsoft’s Greenberg says Xbox will outsell PS3 for ‘entire generation’

Didn’t think Microsoft exec Aaron Greenberg could top himself after saying that Hulu on 360 was like “asking out a really hot chick on a date?” Well, think again, ’cause Greenberg recently sat down with GameInformer for a fairly wide ranging interview, and he took the opportunity to toss a few bombs in Sony’s direction. The biggest of those is that he’s “confident” that the Xbox 360 will “not only outsell PS3 for the full calendar year, but for this entire generation” — adding that it’s “similar to a game of baseball, it is not about just winning one inning, but instead being able to win the game by consistently delivering across all nine innings.” Greenberg also went on to say that Sony’s expected good showing in the September sales numbers is merely a “short term bump,” and that “it is not a real concern to us.” Hit up the link below for the complete interview, which also includes talk of the Zune HD, Xbox Live, and Microsoft’s plans for the holiday season.

Xbox 360 Dashboard Update… updates: Preview program reopened, Sky TV due Oct. 27

Just as it did earlier this year, Microsoft has opened the preview program to let the most hardcore of Xbox 360 owners poke around the updated dashboard — presumably with access to all the 1080p instant-on streaming, Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm add-ons we’ve been expecting — ahead of its official release in order to shake out any remaining bugs. While worldwide console owners should scrape together console IDs, make & model of your TV, router and more in hopes of receiving an invite next week, a little more concrete news is in order for the UK, with the console launch of Sky TV nailed down for October 27. You’ll have to wait until then to find out exact pricing and channel line up availability, ’til then it’s a matter of finding out who on your friends list is most suited for the inevitable football viewing party.

Video: Hands-on with Microsofts Project Natal

Gaming is about to change–forever. One of the highlights of this year’s newly rejuvenated E3 conference was a couple of motion-controlled gaming interfaces from Sony and Microsoft. Sony’s prototype uses ice-cream-cone-like wands, with a special camera that puts you and your actions in the game. Microsoft’s Project Natal also uses a special camera, but has dropped the controllers entirely. All you need is your body.

The videos and on-stage demonstrations from the event looked amazing. Still, I was skeptical,–until I got to try it for myself. The new gaming technology was honored as part last week’s Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Awards, which meant Project Natal made a rare live appearance at the pre-and post awards ceremony festivities. I lined up along with a number of children and other event attendees for a few minutes with the still-in-development gaming control system.

In a word, it’s remarkable.

Xbox 360’s new Zune, Last.fm, Facebook and Twitter features detailed on video

We just got a pretty detailed look at Microsoft’s upcoming Dashboard update for the Xbox, which brings with it the Zune Video Marketplace and Last.fm music streaming, along with Facebook and Twitter social functionality. We were most impressed with Facebook, which includes a feature for spotting which of your Facebook friends have Xbox Live — a great way to grow that friends list and bring a bit of “synergy” to your life. Last.fm was a bit of a downer, since you can’t do anything else while listening to the music, but otherwise there weren’t many minuses to the presentation other than the lack of a firm release date. Check out Joystiq‘s full impressions at the read link before, or watch the whole demo on mind-blowing video after the break.

GameStop listing points to November 3rd launch, $100 price for 802.11n Xbox 360 adapter

We already had some indication that Microsoft’s new Wireless N adapter for the Xbox 360 would pack the same $100 MSRP as its predecessor, but it looks like a new GameStop listing has now all but confirmed it, and the other big remaining detail: a release date. Unless someone seriously got their wires crossed, it looks like the adapter will start shipping on November 3rd, which we presume is also the date that the MSRP of the previous generation WiFi adapter will officially drop (to $80, last we heard), ’cause GameStop sure isn’t going to be moving many of them at the $100 it’s asking right now.

Acidmods moves a few buttons and a joystick on Xbox 360 controller

Hey, not all mods are outlandish and creepy. Some are just plain old… utilitarian. Acidmods got a request for a modded Xbox 360 controller that would move the X, Y, A, and B buttons and the right joystick. The fully functional finished product looks a little odd to the eyes, of course, but it’s also done so well that it looks like a stock unit. As you’ll see in the video after the break, the modded controller would take some getting used to for most of us, but it sure has character.

New Xbox 360 Elite holiday bundle and Wireless Controller Game Pack announced

We’d been hearing that Microsoft had a new Xbox 360 holiday bundle in the works, and here we go: $299 will nab you an Elite, Lego Batman, and Pure. Not a bad deal — and if you already have a 360, you can score a new controller, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, Lumines LIVE!, Bomberman LIVE! and Ms Pac-Man for another $60. The new Elite pack should be shipping to retailers today, but you’ll have to wait until November to snag the controller bundle. Now if only Microsoft would see fit to bundle in some freaking WiFi, we’d be all set.

Sky TV arriving on Xbox 360 in mid-October according to SkyMag; Twitter, Facebook & Zune to follow?

Live Sky TV viewing via Xbox 360 didn’t make it into the most recent dashboard update, readers report page 17 of the network’s most recent SkyMag indicates it will arrive around mid-October. Additional details flesh out what’s available, while all Xbox Live Gold members (in the appropriate areas) will get access to the Sky Player similar to the PC implementation, you will need a Sky subscription with the appropriate channels to view sports and movie content. Look out for more updates at the skyplayer.com/xbox360 site, while those of us beyond the network’s reach wonder whether we can expect other features like Twitter (you’re following us, right?) Facebook and 1080p instant-on movie streaming to arrive at roughly the same time.

[Thanks, David]

Video: a brief history of game console teardowns

Granted, none of these are teardowns we haven’t already seen ad nauseam, but seeing every Sony and Microsoft console ripped to shreds and placed side-to-side in a series of glass cases is still a sight to behold. Peruse the display yourself, found at Tokyo Game Show and shown courtesy of the Museum of GAME Science, in a video tour after the break.

Ben Heck throws together one-handed Xbox 360 controller, probably with one hand

Ben Heck. Just the mere mention of the name brings chills to the spines of all who mod, and if today’s the first day you’ve ever come into contact with those seven letters, prepare to be changed. Forever. The Great Modder’s latest gig involved the creation of a one-handed Xbox 360 controller, but the catch was that it required completion within a ridiculously short period of time. Essentially, the left analog stick was repositioned to fit on the underside of the controller, enabling the user to operate that with his / her leg while handling the right side of the pad as usual. Check out a video of the admittedly raw looking final product after the break, and feel free to grab some inspiration while you’re there.
