Logitech makes Squeezebox Radio and Touch official

Logitech makes Squeezebox Radio and Touch official

Logitech has finally released info on its upcoming additions to the Squeezebox lineup, and we’re happy to share it all with you, dear readers. First up is the FCC-approved Squeezebox Radio, sporting integrated speakers and a 2.4-inch LCD upon which you can view playlists, peruse Facebook recommendations, and even squint at Flickr slideshows. On the higher end is the Squeezebox Touch, with its 4.3-inch touchscreen and outputs to connect directly to your home entertainment system. Both feature 802.11g wireless enabling them to suck tunes of all sorts (including Pandora, iTunes, Sirius, and various internet streams) straight from a Mac, Windows, or Linux machine, but only the Touch will be able to play tracks directly from USB drives and SD cards. The Radio will be shipping by the end of the month for an MSRP of $199, while the Touch (which would look perfect next to your Harmony 1100) is destined for a December release and a higher price of $299 — despite it having already started shipping in some places. Full press releases after the break.

Panasonic issues mildly revamped PT-AE4000 1080p projector at IFA

Panasonic’s PT-AE3000 has gone over quite well in the home theater space, with its 1080p resolution and gorgeous image quality winning over more than a few projector junkies. But given that there’s always room for improvement, the outfit has today introduced the PT-AE4000, an ever-so-slightly refreshed version that looks essentially identical to its predecessor. The Full HD native resolution and 1,600 ANSI lumens remain unchanged, though the contrast ratio has been bumped from 60,000:1 to 80,000:1 and Panny has outfitted it with a new “red rich lamp” and dynamic iris. Finally, this beamer supposedly eliminates those nasty Cinemascope issues that some users were seeing on the AE3000, though the estimated £2,000 ($3,255) asking price still feels a bit steep when you consider the alternatives.

Logitech Squeezebox Radio: The next great Wi-Fi radio?

Logitech already owns the Editors’ Choice award for Wi-Fi radios with the Squeezebox Boom, but it looks as if the company may be competing with itself for the award with the newly announced Squeezebox Radio ($200 list price).

From the initial news release, the Squeezebox Radio looks to pack most …

Logitech Harmony 700 universal remote looks familiar

(Credit: Logitech)

It looks a lot like the Harmony One or the new Harmony 900 and the freshly announced Logitech Harmony 700 Remote only appears to be missing the touch screen found on its bigger brothers.

As we expected, the Harmony 700 retains most of the great features found in the One and 900 like a rechargeable battery, color screen (though smaller), and software-based setup for use with a PC or Mac.

Judging on looks alone, the 700 seems to be cut from the same cloth as the One and 900 but lacks a certain glossy finish found on the other two remotes. Also, the buttons seem a bit smaller as there’s more space in between them.

The Harmony 700 is set to go on sale this month for $150. While we can’t give our final take until we properly review the remote, it seems the extra cash you’d spend to upgrade to the Harmony One would be worth it–especially since the One can be found online for $180. Of course if it’s RF you’re looking for, the 900 is the way to go.

Logitech launches Squeezebox Touch, but the design disappoints

Logitech Squeezebox Touch(Credit: Logitech)

Logitech is adding a touch-screen model to its line of Squeezebox streaming audio products. Unfortunately, the upcoming Squeezebox Touch has a design flaw (in my opinion) that will likely relegate it to the periphery of the burgeoning home digital audio market.

At first glance, the Squeezebox Touch has …

Video: crooks clean out New Jersey Apple store in 31 impressive seconds

And you thought making off with 39 iPods in 15 seconds was something to behold. After studying said crooks in Utah, a trained team of larcenists headed over to Apple’s Sagemore location in Marlton, New Jersey in order to one-up the duo by snagging even more goods in under a minute. As the surveillance shows, a single blunt object decimated the iconic glass doorway and enabled five hyped-up thieves to enter, snag 23 MacBook Pros, 14 iPhones and 9 iPod touches, and head for the hills — all in just 31 seconds. Look, we aren’t trying to glamorize crime or anything, but this is the stuff GTA heists are made of. Head on past the break for a look at the video, and please, don’t try to replicate this at your nearest Apple store (without wearing a head-mounted camcorder and hooking us up with the footage, of course).

Adesso’s AKB-440 keyboard gets integrated trackpad

Look, we’re not going to say that the famed keyboard-mouse tandem is going anywhere soon, but we will say that there are certainly occasions where having to use a separate critter is a real pain. For those times when having mousing abilities right on the keyboard just seem more “right,” there’s the Adesso AKB-440. Aimed directly at HTPC users and the like, this rather vanilla looking keyboard spruces things up with a GlidePoint-enabled pad that puts your standalone mouse out of work. If your imagination is running wild with how this thing could revolutionize your life (or at least improve the feasibility of a living room PC), feel free to snag one now for $59.99.

Video: Sony confirms it’s ‘bringing home 3D’ starting in 2010

As it turns out, yesterday’s report was spot-on. Sony today announced that it is bringing the experience of looking absolutely ridiculous in 3D glasses home to the living room. The initiative is “starting in 2010” and will expand through BRAVIA LCD HDTVs, VAIO machines, PlayStation 3, and Blu-ray discs… and not in the press release, but we clearly see a CyberShot digital camera in the promotional video (look out, Fujifilm). It’s hard to say from the wording if all the listed product lines will go 3D next year, but from what we gather there’ll at least be BRAVIA sets in time for that Christmas. Curious see the zaniest video this side of the second dimension? Well, we don’t have that, but you can giggle your way through Sony’s promo after the break.
