Verizon Unveils Three More Phones–and a Netbook

Motorola_Barrage.jpgIn addition to the HTC Imagio, Verizon rolled out four other devices today. The Nokia 2705 Shade is a tiny flip phone that’s designed to fit in a purse or pocket, and comes in camera and camera-less versions. Despite its small size, it features VZ Navigator compatibility for turn-by-turn GPS directions, switchable covers, a 1.3-megapixel camera, and Bluetooth; it will list for $29.99 with a new two-year agreement beginning October 6th.

Next up is the military-spec Motorola Barrage (pictured), a rugged cell phone that can stay under several feet of water for 30 minutes. It features Push-to-Talk, a 2-megapixel camera, and support for various optional VZW media services. It costs $129.99 after a $50 rebate and with a two-year agreement. This one hits November 16th; a non-camera version will be available for order on October 21st.

The Verizon Wireless Razzle features a tilt-and-swivel design for messaging fans. It also includes a music player, support for V CAST Music with Rhapsody, a 1GB microSD card, a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and a 2.2-inch LCD. This one will check in at $69.99 with a two-year agreement sometime later in October.

WiFi-enabled bathroom scale slides into USA, overweight Yanks sluggishly back away

Oh sure, we Americans love our fast food. And we love our technology. But do we really love the latter? Withings has just announced that the world’s first WiFi-enabled bathroom scale has made its way into the States after a few months abroad, and we have to say, this could change everything. When pouncing upon it, the scale automatically records the user’s body weight, lean / fat mass and calculated body mass index (BMI) to his or her secure webpage, and if you’re more the iPhone type, it can beam data to a Withings iPhone app as well. It’s available now for $159, but you can certainly wait ’til your latest diet has had some sort of effect before bringing one home. A delightful demonstration video is waiting for you just past the break.

Comcast Denies NBC Purchase Rumors–Sort Of

Who wouldn’t want to buy the station charged with bringing the world the magic of 30 Rock? Comcast, apparently. The cable giant denied recent rumor that it would be purchasing NBC for $35 billion.

“While we do not normally comment on M&A rumors, the report that Comcast has a deal to purchase NBC Universal is inaccurate,” the company said in a recent statement.

It’s not a flat out denial, to be sure. It’s more of a “someone didn’t get their facts quite right,” i.e., maybe the price was actually $36 billion. According to “people close to the situation,” Comcast is “kicking the tires” over at that network.

So, what’s going on? Only Comcast and the Sheinhardt Wig Company know for certain.

Rumor: BlackBerry Storm 2 Coming to Verizon October 25

Boy Genius Report, ground zero for all cell phone rumors, is reporting that the BlackBerry Storm 2–RIM’s followup to its wonky iPhone-like device–is due “around October 25th.”

The information comes from a leaked Best Buy product inventory shot, which has dummy units for the upcoming smartphone arriving at the big box retailer on that date. The real devices reportedly are set to arrive in stores just before the dummy units.

A separate rumor has the Storm 2 priced at $599 with no contract at Best Buy.

HTC, Verizon Launch Imagio Smartphone

HTC_Imagio.jpgHTC and Verizon Wireless have unveiled the Imagio, a Windows Mobile 6.5 (!) smartphone with a 3.6-inch, 800-by-480-pixel touch screen.

Significantly, it’s also Verizon’s first smartphone to support V CAST Mobile TV, Verizon’s broadcast service that requires a dedicated TV tuner in the handset.

In addition, the Imagio is a true world phone with quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 + 2100 MHz HSPA) and dual-band EV-DO Rev A (800/1900 MHz) device. It includes Wi-Fi, a standard-size 3.5mm headphone jack, an on-screen QWERTY keyboard, and HTC’s TouchFLO 3D interface.

Look for the Imagio online at www.verizonwireless.com beginning October 6th, and in stores on October 20th, for $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a two-year agreement. Could the Imagio be relief for anyone frustrated with Verizon’s poor smartphone lineup? Stay tuned.

ASUS ships $100 O!Play HDP-R1 HD media streamer

Hey, you — yeah, you. Remember that O!Play HDP-R1 media player that ASUS teased us with back in June? Remember how you dedicated a calender to it so you could count down the days ’til its arrival? Time to stop all that madness, as said box is finally on sale and shipping right now within the US of A. For the surprisingly reasonable price of $99.99, users can utilize this very device to stream and play back an array of formats with 1080p resolution support. Heck, there’s even an eSATA and Ethernet port there, just waiting for your love. So, will you show it? Or is life still worth living knowing what you’ve neglected?
