IE7+ Confirmed For Windows Vista

A few weeks ago people were beginning to notice that the Internet Explorer 7 in Vista was branded as “IE7+”. Everyone knew that there was something behind this and now we have confirmed reports of what it means:

The special branding is designed to highlight the additional features IE7 will receive in Vista, including Protected Mode, parental controls, and improved network diagnostics.

Microsoft appears to be taking advantage of some security features that Vista is going to have built into it, like the parental controls. However, I don’t think that IE7+ will be the product that pushes people to upgrade.

Glitch Shows Microsoft’s Stock Selling at $100,000 Per Share!

This article was written on February 28, 2007 by CyberNet.

If you own Microsoft stock, at one point today you probably could have been a millionaire! A glitch today with the NASDAQ market showed that stocks were selling at $100,000. The screenshot below is from Yahoo Financial which still hasn’t corrected the day’s range.

Also interesting is that several sites are reporting that a computer glitch triggered the sudden plunge in the Dow Jones yesterday which is why  it ended as the worse day since the first day of trading after the September 11th attacks.

They realized that their computer system was not handling the massive amount of trading the way it should have been, so in late afternoon they switched over to a backup system.

And as you can imagine, all the jokes are flying around like “did they just upgrade to Vista?”

Fix for iPhone 3G Connectivity with Firwmare Update?

This article was written on August 19, 2008 by CyberNet.

Once again, Apple has unexpectedly released an updated version of the iPhone firmware. Version 2.0.2 was released last evening, but not many details were provided as to what the update included, other than it “fixes bugs.” Which bugs you ask? Well, we’re not quite sure.

iPhone update.png

Here’s what we do know. We know that after installing the update, our 3G signal was stronger than ever. This, however, does not mean that Apple released the 3G reception fix we’ve been hearing about. It could simply be a coincidence that we went from two bars 3G connectivity to four. While browsing around the web, we did find some people saying they noticed no improved connectivity whatsoever.

Another thing we noticed right off the bat was that the keyboard lag that we had experienced in the past had improved. We have still been experiencing applications randomly crashing since we updated to the 2.0.1 firmware, but we haven’t used the 2.0.2 firmware long enough to tell if those issues have been fixed.

If you’ve upgraded, what changes, if any, have you noticed? With Apple being so general saying the update only fixes bugs, it’s a guessing game as to what was actually fixed.

Be Careful If You Are Renting Xbox 360 Games From GameFly

This article was written on January 02, 2006 by CyberNet.

Xbox 360 Scratching

If you plan on renting your Xbox 360 Games from GameFly you might want to be careful with those games. They decided that too many games are getting scratched and I am sure that they cannot afford losing that many games, so each person will be allowed one scratched game and after that you are paying for it! Maybe Microsoft will soon fix the Hitachi-LG GDR-3120L DVD drive since this is an obvious problem.

We have received reports that certain XBOX 360 consoles have caused damage to GameFly videogames. Unfortunately, we have been notified that you recently returned a damaged XBOX 360 game. As a precaution, we have removed all XBOX 360 games from your GameQ. Please contact Microsoft at 1-800-4MY-XBOX. Please do not rent XBOX 360 games until you have resolved this issue. In the future, should GameFly receive XBOX 360 games from you that have been damaged, you will be charged a replacement fee.

Shiseido becomes movie-maker to market brand

A new film being released this weekend in Japan is essentially one giant ad for a cosmetics brand.

In the planning since 2008, “Flowers” was conceived by Takuya Onuki for Shiseido as a way to advertise themselves and the six actresses/models who regularly appear in the marketing for their Tsubaki brand of shampoo. Even the official website for Tsubaki has currently been turned into a trailer for the film.

Since the slogan for Tsubaki (which of course means “camellia”) is “Nihon no josei wa utsukushi” (日本の女性は美しい, Japanese women are beautiful), it shouldn’t surprise you that the models are very good-looking and the advertising takes lavish advantage of that. The film appears to be no exception, a multi-generation tale of female love in Japan, from the Thirties to the present day.

To quite what level the film succeeds — whether as fiction, marketing or just indulgence — we will have to wait till after its release.
