Early Preview: Disneys TRON Zero Gravity Light Cycle

If you’re a geek worthy of the title, you’re definitely looking forward to December 17 when TRON: Legacy hits movie theaters. As wonderful as the classic 1982 original TRON was, there’s no question that the special effects and graphics will be worlds better in the new sequel. And it looks like the toys will be better, too!

Above is a video I shot last night when I met with as we showed you in a previous very cool video), so the car can defy gravity–it can run on any flat surface. And as you’ll hear in the video, you will be able to battle with other Light Cycles when the (up to 6-foot) light trails that appear behind the vehicles cross.

Disney didn’t have a specific release date, but look for the toy in time for the 2010 holidays, at $34.99 list with controller included. For kids 8 and older.

Nintendo explains Vitality Sensor’s absence at E3: show was too ‘loud and stressful’

Nintendo explains Vitality Sensor's absense at E3: show was too 'loud and stressful'

At E3 this year we were absolutely sure that Nintendo would finally release the details of its finger-trapping peripheral, the Vitality Sensor. The company revealed the thing the year prior and, well, it sure seemed like time to make it official. But, that didn’t happen, and Nintendo’s Cammie Dunaway (star of the 2009 Vitality Sensor reveal) told Game Set Watch why: there was just too much other stuff. Yes, Nintendo “had a really packed agenda” and was too busy showing off another Metroid sequel, another Zelda sequel and, shocker, another Kid Icarus sequel to make room for something that is actually new. She continues that E3 is “noisy and adrenaline-filled, and loud and stressful, and it just didn’t seem like the best environment to introduce a product that’s really about relaxing.” So, here we are, left sitting alone, index fingers coldly exposed to the elements, forced to find other ways to relax on our own.

Xbox Live family subscription plan available starting in November for $99

Microsoft‘s just dropped details on its new Xbox Live family subscription plan. Starting in November, it will offer the Gold Family Pack, enabling up to four users to have Xbox Live Gold subscriptions, for $99.99 a year. It’ll also debut the Family Center, a new menu accessible from the dashboard for customizing account settings. We’ve certainly wished for something like this in the past, and the pricing sounds like a pretty good deal to us — we’ll be able to afford a new cap for our avatar, afterall! Exclusive: Samsung Captivate for AT&T preview

AT&T may have been accused of crippling its Android phones, but the Samsung Captivate — one of the US versions of the Galaxy S — is about to change all of that. Oh sure, the company released the specs last week, but us resourceful folk got some hands-on time with the Super AMOLED-boasting, Android 2.1 phone prior to its unknown stateside launch. The model we got to play with was clearly an early build (it wasn’t even branded Samsung or AT&T), but that didn’t stop us from putting it through the paces at a local Starbucks. Hit the break for a bulleted breakdown of our impressions and a short hands-on video. Oh, and don’t forget to make a pit stop at the gallery below before getting into the good stuff.
