Hasselblad’s Ferrari-branded H4D camera: now available for just €21,499

Now that you’ve wasted precious moments of your life saving $10 here, $8 there and $6.23 in your local Target, how’s about a Black Friday deal that you’ll never forget. Hasselblad’s Ferrari-branded H4D medium format camera, which we saw unveiled earlier this year at Photokina, is now shipping to the affluent, the zany, and the select few that happen to be both. So far as we can tell, this is just an H4D with a Ferrari-approved design scheme, and neither point helps to make this thing anywhere near affordable. A grand total of 499 are being made available today, with each one to run €21,499 ($28,425) + tax. Who knew you’d be buying something today that’s only purchasable via your Centurion card — puts a whole new spin on Black Friday, huh?

As Amazon puts its, “You shouldn’t have to stand in a long line to get a great deal.” Fair enough. It’s sure to be a bit of a nightmare out there in local shopping malls, so Amazon is offering up some sweet deals online.

After the jump, we’ve rounded up some great Black Friday deals from the site on products like HDTVs, cameras, headphones, and more.

Land Crawler exTreme robot carries 175 pounds of human

Human-carrying (or human-assisting) robots come in all shapes and sizes, but we haven’t seen anything quite like this so-called Land Crawler exTreme bot. Weighing in at just 27 pounds, the robot can apparently carry a person weighing up to 175 pounds (providing they have good balance), or it can simply amble around on its twelve legs all by itself. Practical? Maybe not. But it is quite a sight to behold — see for yourself after the break.

Fry’s Black Friday Deals

LG BD-530 Network Blu-Ray.jpeg

No other brick-and-mortar electronics store takes its Black Friday deals quite as seriously as Fry’s. The west coast electronics chain offers some downright crazy deals, the day after Thanksgiving.

Fry’s is also pretty secretive when it comes to deals, but site’s like Fry’s Ads have devoted their entire existence to the leaking of such information. After the jump, we’ve collected some of the most mind bogglingly low deals from Fry’s Ads.

A note from that site:

Unless otherwise indicated, ads are for Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Houston (HOU), Los Angeles/Orange County (LA), San Jose (SJ), Phoenix, Renton, Chicago, Austin, Sacramento, and Las Vegas (Vegas) areas.

ZoneAlarm ForceField Offers Virtual Surfing

This article was written on September 26, 2007 by CyberNet.

ZoneAlarm ForceField Screenshots ZoneAlarm is a very well respected security company, and for the longest time it was my primary choice for firewall protection. They’ve remained pretty strong in that area, but lately I’ve seen people converting to other security apps, such as the free Comodo firewall.

ZoneAlarm is trying to recapture the focus by launching a new app that could very well be their most security-aware offering yet. It’s called ZoneAlarm ForceField and among other things it is used to place your browser in a sandbox. While in the Beta stage it is free for testers, but it will cost $29.95 when released.

What’s all this talk about virtual surfing? From the sounds of it there isn’t much of a difference between this and other free alternatives that we’ve previously mentioned: BufferZone, LivePC, and Sandboxie. It creates a virtual space on your hard drive where your downloads are stored and executed from. When run from that location programs have access to a virtual Registry and virtual system files, and therefore cannot access anything on your PC. Downloading a virus onto your computer would therefor have very limited consequences to your system, and could easily be removed.

Here are some of the other features it offers:

  • Bank & Shop security – Multiple layers of protection safeguard the information you enter online.
  • Private Browser – Surf anywhere and type anything without leaving a single trace on your computer.
  • Dangerous download detector – Frisks every file you download so you don’t get anything nasty on your computer.
  • Advanced anti-phishing, anti-keylogger and anti-screengrabber technology – Flags fraudulent Web sites and blocks spyware trying to steal your identity.

ZoneAlarm ForceField will install a toolbar in your browser so that it can actively notify you of the current site’s security. One of my favorite features, however, are the detailed notifications that you receive (pictured above, click to enlarge them). They provide information such as when the site was registered, where it is located, and whether it is a known phishing or spyware distributor. The registration date can serve a vital purpose when identifying a phishing site, because a bank that’s been around for dozens of years will probably have a website that was created more than a few months ago. :)

Right now ZoneAlarm ForceField works on 32-bit Windows XP SP2 or Vista, and is only compatible with IE 6/7 and Firefox 2. There are currently several known bugs and third-party software compatibility issues that you should be aware of before installing the free ZoneAlarm ForceField Beta.

Head over to PC World if you want to see more than a dozen screenshots of ZoneAlarm ForceField.

Thanks for the heads up “s”!

Apple Store Black Friday Deals: iPads, iMacs, iPods

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for ipadnytimes.jpg

Now that you’ve finished sleeping off that turkey coma, it’s time to participate in that most truly American of activities: buying lots of stuff that you can’t possibly afford.

Apple is almost certain to have some amazing sales numbers this holiday, thanks in no small part to 2010’s runaway success of the iPad, which has made its way to the top of countless shopping shopping lists.

As is its tradition, the company is marking Black Friday with that rarest of things: a genuine discount on Apple products. Apple has done a pretty good job keeping quiet about the deals thus far. The company sent out a teaser to customers, but otherwise kept quiet.

The Black Friday discounts are in place, and it looks like a pretty solid spread, with deals on iPads, iMacs, iPods, Macbooks, software, and accessories galore. Check out some of the better deals after the jump.

Nendo’s ceramic circuit board speaker gives the rest of the audio world body image issues

We’ve seen slick hand-crafted ceramic speakers in the past, but this one millimeter-thick collaboration between potter Mitsuke Masagasu and design firm Nendo is in a different league. An entirely different league. The set is result of the so-called Revalue Nippon Project, created by Japanese footballer Nakata Hidetoshi to revive traditional Japanese art forms. Nakata selected five curators — in this case the director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazaw — who were then tasked with pairing a ceramicist and designer to collaborate on a one of a kind form. Not satisfied with simply being 31 times thinner than the emaciated Mythos XTR series as a sole basis for artistic impact, the speaker’s ravishing circuit design is also made without a human touch. Instead, a computer-controlled process cuts thin slices from a ceramic substrate slab, fixes them with mercury vapor, and then mounts them via a robotic arm. Amazingly, sound quality is still also touted as being top notch. There are no plans however for these speakers to ever be mass produced, so if you were hoping to snag one as the ultimate accessory for your über-modern flat… well, let yourself down easy, alright champ?
