Love Plus SIM girls charge up phones, consoles

One of the biggest trends last year was the promotion of otaku favorite game Love Plus to the higher and more mainstream echelons of the iPhone and, even more interestingly, the emergence of tie-ins with travel and karaoke services.

The band wagon will keep on rolling till its run out of steam, of course. Not content to simply play the virtual dating SIM game on your mobile phone or DS, even when charging your handset up you may want to get your fix of cute character charm.

Enter the new Love Plus Phone Charger, which works with your Japanese cellphone, iPhone or game console and is, needless to say, fully decorated with one of the game’s leading ladies. Apparently every activity, no matter how mundane, can now be refined to have relevance to your SIM romance.

After choosing which girl you want (Manaka, Nene or Rinko) you then have to put on your patience cap and wait till February for the official release. No doubt, if this latest merchandise is a hit then there’ll be more to tempt the wallets of otaku consumers. The local price is 5,480 yen (about $67.50), which, though the charger works with a lot of different handsets, still seems quite a lot to pay to the uninitiated at least.

HTC Thunderbolt has 8 megapixel camera and video chat, according to the ad up there

HTC’s slogan is “quietly brilliant,” and the company’s living up to it right now — it snuck new details about its mystery handset directly under our nose. What you see above are three screencaps from a banner ad running on the pages of Engadget even as we speak, hinting at an 8 megapixel imager, a sizable screen, and perhaps even 4G video chat. Why, hello there HTC Thunderbolt / Mecha / Droid Incredible HD, and hurray for controlled leaks!

[Thanks, Taylor S.]

Samsung Galaxy Player up for pre-order at Amazon UK, £150 buys 8GB worth of Android Market apps

We Americans may not see it until summer, but Samsung’s 3.2-inch Galaxy Player is about to call Europe home, as following French presales the PMP has now appeared at Amazon UK. There, it’s sporting a tentative January 7th release date and a pair of capacities and prices, with a modest £150 (about $234) nabbing you 8GB of storage and £180 (roughly $280) fully doubling that capacity to 16GB. Apple’s iPod touch is the obvious comparison here, and it’s shaping up to be a valid one — while there’s no Retina Display to be had here, it’s hard to sneeze at the real Android Market and some decent codec (OGG / FLAC / XviD / DivX) support. Unless you’ve got a cold or something.

[Thanks, Paul]

How Are The PS3′s And Wii’s Doing On eBay?

This article was written on November 22, 2006 by CyberNet.

PS3/Wii on eBay

It has almost been a week and it looks like the sales of PS3′s and Wii’s have dwindled down a bit on eBay. I have seen some of the Playstation 3′s go for as low as $850 which is just a few hundred above the actual cost of the system. That’s not that bad considering the fact that the “real” sales on eBay were previously going for around $3000. The Nintendo Wii is  also extremely reasonable and will only run you around $400 on eBay.

Looking through the auctions will reveal some amazingly clever schemes to try and get people to buy from them. One of the most common things is having a girl pose with the system. Some of them even appear to be topless (even though nothing is visible) in hopes of getting a little boost in sales. This auction, for example, says that the girl will hand deliver the Playstation 3 to the winner if the sale got above $19,000…but the auction has already ended and it didn’t even get a bid at the ridiculous $10,000 starting price.

When I sorted the listings according to price this was one of the first ones to come up. That is because the starting price is $1 million but they are kindly accepting and promptly declining offers. What’s so special about this auction? With the current 72 offers and more than 10,000 views this is what they are offering:

YOU ARE BIDDING ON FOUR BRAND NEW PLAYSTATION 3 (60GB) PLUS FOUR NEW NINTENDO WIIs!!!!  YOU ALSO GET 1 OF EVERY GAME YOU WANT FROM OUR HUGE LISTS BELOW!!!  These will all be PERSONALLY hand delivered to 4 addresses of your choice!!!… I WILL LITERALLY FLY/DRIVE TO THE ADDRESSES YOU GIVE ME DRESSED UP LIKE SANTA!

The auction is actually a little misleading because it says you get 1 of every game that is listed…but looking at the pictures makes me think you get 1 of every game for every system! It is absolutely crazy what some people come up with and are able to get their hands on.

MSI details Sandy Bridge, Fusion all-in-ones ahead of CES, teases a sliding screen

We just finished reviewing a feature-packed MSI Wind Top, but come CES next week we’ll have three more to try: the AE2410, AE2210 and AE2050, each with the very latest silicon inside. Notebook Italia reports that the Taiwanese computer company’s using Intel’s new Sandy Bridge CPUs in each of its 24- and 22-inch rigs, and grabbed a low-power AMD Brazos APU for the likely budget 20-inch model — which will reportedly still include a Blu-ray drive like its Core 2 Duo cousin. All three will sport 1080p touchscreen displays and USB 3.0 ports, but also a spiffy new feature called Super Charger that will charge attached USB gadgets even when the computer is off. Innovations, to be sure, but perhaps not as exciting as the concept items pictured above and below — up top is the MSI Butterfly, which reportedly has a sliding multitouch screen with ten points of contact, and after the break, see the luxurious MSI Angelow. Here’s hoping for prices, specs and high-res pictures once we get to the show.

New Google Accounts Page Starts To Appear

It looks like there is a report that Google has started to test (or possibly roll out) a new Accounts page. I have only heard of this one person receiving this new page so we aren’t quite sure if this is a Photoshop job, a testing page, or something they are slowly starting to roll out and no one has noticed yet. Let us know if anyone else sees this page!

The Onion: new CEO wonders how Radio Shack is still in business

Between its questionable marketing decisions, a decor that oozes a sort of early 90s discount mall vibe, and desperate employees (even if they are the source of cell phone leaks from time to time), whenever we do make it to Radio Shack it’s always a rather humbling experience. And, as The Onion points out, we’re not the first to have noticed. Indeed, according to the website, the company’s new CEO “said Monday that he still has ‘no idea’ how the home electronics store manages to stay open.” But it seems that the company’s upper-level management is seriously trying to crack the code:
[T]heories about RadioShack’s continued solvency involves wedding DJs, emergency cord replacement, and off-brand wireless telephones. Another theory entails countless RadioShack gift cards that sit unredeemed in their recipients’ wallets. Day has even conjectured that the store is “still coasting on” an enormous fortune made from remote-control toy cars in the mid-1970s.

Which reminds us: we need to hit The Shack later today to pick up a 90 minute extended range cassette tape for our stereo dual-dubbing cassette deck.

This Week’s Best YouTube Videos: Playing WoW with Kinect, The Blizzard of 2010, Hilarious Halftime Show, and More

Blizzard Time Lapse

Across the continental United States this week, thousands of people found themselves stranded with family after Christmas as record-breaking snowfall swept across the country and mangled travel services on both coasts. Many of us are digging out, but some of the top videos on YouTube this week are a testament to how much snow people actually had to deal with.
It’s not all about snow though, researchers have managed to use Microsoft’s Kinect to play World of Warcraft, ensuring players like myself now have a source of exercise with which to dispel those stereotypes about what WoW players look like. Also, AT&T released a pretty emotional documentary about why you really shouldn’t text while driving, one that everyone should see. Click the jump for the videos.

Apple iTunes 7.1: “Safely Removing” iPod on Vista can Corrupt it!

This article was written on March 06, 2007 by CyberNet.

Cover Flow

Just yesterday Apple launched iTunes 7.1 which had a feature that sparked a lot of conversations on the Web. The big thing that has people talking is the full-screen Cover Flow, and other than that there isn’t much new according to their site:

Using iTunes 7.1, you can now enjoy your favorite iTunes movies, TV shows, music, and more from the comfort of your living room with Apple TV. iTunes 7.1 also supports a new full screen Cover Flow and improved sorting options to let you decide how iTunes should sort your favorite artists, albums, and songs.

The Cover Flow (pictured above) is a cool feature because it lets you shuffle through all of your albums while displaying the album cover, and it does it in a way that is sure to leave you in awe. Making it fullscreen adds a lot more to it, but to be honest I was expecting to see a version of iTunes that was completely compatible with Vista.

I started browsing around Apple’s site and found a page that had a list of things that still doesn’t work right with Vista. They do, however, say that they are actively working with Microsoft to fix these issues:

  • Ejecting an iPod from Windows Explorer or the Windows notification area (system tray) using the “Safely Remove Hardware” feature may corrupt your iPod. To always safely eject an iPod, choose Eject iPod from the Controls menu within iTunes. If your iPod becomes corrupt, selecting your iPod in iTunes and clicking Restore in the iPod’s Summary panel should return your iPod to a working condition.
  • iTunes may display text or graphics incorrectly on your screen. Resizing the iTunes window should correct this issue.
  • Contacts from Windows Address Book may not sync with iPod.
  • iTunes remains unsupported on 64 bit editions of Windows, including Windows Vista and Windows XP x64.

The first item was what really caught my attention because I have always used the “Safely Remove Hardware” to disconnect my iPod. I haven’t tried this version of iTunes on my Vista machine yet because of the problems it still has, so I’m running it on my one and only remaining XP machine. It’s not that big of a deal because I normally don’t do much with iTunes other than sync my songs and podcasts, but it would be nice to get this up and running on my primary PC which has Vista installed.

So now I’ll cross my fingers that Vista will be added to the list of operating systems that are currently supported for the next release. While I understand that Apple is going to cater to the Mac operating system more than Windows, I would have thought that a Vista-compatible version of iTunes would have been ready when the OS launched over a month ago. I’m a little disappointed with Apple from that standpoint.
