MSI ships Fusion-based CR650 laptop, Wind Top AE2050 all-in-one PC
Posted in: AMD, laptop, Laptops, msi, now shipping, NowShipping, ship, shipping, ships, Today's ChiliAMD’s Zacate E-350 APU (better known to casual observers as a member of the Fusion platform) has been shocking critics since its long-awaiting introduction earlier in the year, finally giving people a real alternative to Intel’s historically sluggish Atom lineup. In the event that you’ve been waiting for Fusion-based options from MSI, a couple of previously introduced machines are now making their way out to the shipping docks. First up, it’s the 15.6-inch CR650, complete with a dual-core E-350 APU (which includes a Radeon HD 6310 discrete-class graphics chip), an HDMI port, 720p webcam and a downright luscious $499.99 starting price. For those looking for something a wee bit less portable, or for those looking to significantly increase their load, the Fusion-backed Wind Top AE2050 ($679.99) is also shipping to Earthlings in North America. Hit the links below to learn more on each.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Tablet Has 16 Hour Battery
Posted in: ASUS, honeycomb, Tablets and E-Readers, Today's Chili
ASUS Eee Pad Transformer. How well can a tablet OS run on a laptop?
Looks like Asus couldn’t decide whether it wanted to make a tablet or a netbook, so it made both. The Eee Pad Transformer is a tablet which docks itself to a hinged keyboard and offers a long, long battery life of 16 hours.
It will be very interesting to see if this actually works. The tablet component uses the 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, has 1GB RAM, a Gorilla Glass multitouch screen (10.1 inches), 1.2 and 5MP cameras, gyroscope, compass, GPS and so on. The keyboard is little more than a dock with a trackpad and battery (without the dock, the battery life drops to 9.5 hours).
It seems like a great idea, but I wonder just how well the Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS plays with keyboard and trackpad. Anyone who has teamed the iPad up with an external keyboard knows that it works great if you have some text to type, but anything else is a pain. The OS just isn’t designed to be controlled with a keyboard.
Still, if you’re going to carry a keyboard with you, the extra battery life is nice.
Prices are still unannounced, as are U.S launch dates, but you can see a full spec sheet in the linked press release, and if you live in Taiwan, you can pick one up today.

AllofMP3 Will Return Soon!
Posted in: Music, Today's Chili, Web SitesThis article was written on August 28, 2007 by CyberNet.
It’s amazing what AllofMP3.com has been through over the last year. They’ve been on a wild roller-coaster ride that looks as though it may be ending soon. After they were shut-down and ordered to face a Russian Court, it was determined on August 15th that they operated within the bounds of Russian law and they didn’t infringe on copyright law as they had been accused of. Of course the law in Russia is much different than in other countries, but in this case it really doesn’t matter. With the Russian government giving them the all-clear, they just announced on their blog that “service will be resumed in the foreseeable future.”
The blog announcement is dated August 31st which isn’t for another few days, but it does say that they’re doing their best so that account holders will be able to start ordering music again. For now, the Allofmp3.com landing page is just a listing of music industry news with no signs of the original site returning. And while they will eventually return, you can bet it’ll only be a matter of time before they face their next obstacle. The RIAA isn’t one to give-up, especially in this case. Knowing them, they’re probably already planning their next move and are preparing to execute it.
For all you AllofMP3.com fans, when the site does return, I suggest you enjoy it while you can because you’ll never know when it will be yanked away, again. The longer they’re away, the harder it will be for them to stage a come-back. Many of their users have already turned to other services to get their music, and with the uncertainty of AllofMP3’s future, it’ll be interesting to see how many of their previous loyal users will return.

US satellites successfully track ballistic missile from cradle to grave, don’t pay for the flowers
Posted in: military, space, Today's ChiliLasers destroy missiles, missiles shoot down satellites, and soon, satellites may tell both where to aim, as the United States successfully managed to track an entire ballistic missile launch from “birth-to-death” with its prototype Space Tracking and Surveillance System. After a year and a half in orbit, two Northrop Grumman-built satellites managed the feat last week, in what the company’s calling “the Holy Grail for missile defense.” While we’re not reading about any plans to mount any lasers on the satellite’s… ahem… heads, Space News reports that the US Navy will attempt to relay the satellite tracking data to its Aegis ships with interceptor missiles on board, and hopefully obliterate incoming projectiles with the extra range and reaction time that satellite coordinates afford. The Navy has reportedly scheduled its first game of space-based Missile Command for next month.

Fashion and tech collide once again to create the iPhone Wristlet. Is it gaudy or great?

Normincies’ laptop bag looks great, and packs some clever features
I’m sorry. I’m about to write about yet another bag, but you’ll love this one. I promise. Not only is it hot-looking, it has some very clever design details. Also, it’s from Finland, which somehow makes it seem even better.
The laptop bag comes from a company named Normincies, and is available in either nylon or Alcantara, a suede-like artificial fabric, and comes sized for 15 or 13 inch laptops. All models have plenty of pockets and storage inside, but its what’s on the outside that makes these bags so different. They have a fat aluminum strip running around the outside, and the bag is strung inside this handle, offering rigidity and protection.
That’s neat enough, but take a look at how the shoulder-strap joins the bag. Those odd-looking slots and holes at either side are in fact anchor points for the strap, a strip of webbing which terminates in two metal torpedoes that hook into these holes.
The only problem is the same one you get with almost any laptop bag: weight. At 4.6 to 5.1 pounds (depending on size) these bags may weight more than the computer you’re putting into them.
