Okay, so Symbian^3 is still just a glint in our eyes, but that launch date is fast approaching and here’s a neat little accessory to keep up excitement for the platform: the Mobile TV Headset. You know how most phones use the cord of your earphones as an FM aerial? Well, this thing does the same, only with DVB-H teevee signals, piping them straight through into your USB-on-the-go-equipped Nokia handset. It comes with channel-changing, call-receiving, and volume controls, and will set you back €40 ($51) before taxes in Q4 of this year.

There’s something simple, elegant, and essential about the just-released Gear Tie. Any geek with cables cluttering his or her office will instantly find uses for them. They’re reusable rubber twist ties that can be used to clean up, pack up, and organize anything that needs securing. They come in fives sizes–3-inches, 6-inches, 18-inches, 24-inches, and 32-inches–so you can get the ones right for you. Better yet, buy an assortment.

The prices are pretty decent, too. A four-pack of 3-inch ties, for example, sells for $4.99 (and you can pick the color). Whether you want to tie up iPod cables, USB cords, video came controllers, or a garden hose, there’s a Gear Tie for the job. They’re strong enough to hang a bucket of paint off a ladder, and they hold their shape, so you can fashion them into an iPad stand. While it’s only September, these already look like great geek stocking stuffers.

Here’s a little nugget you may not have already been aware of — Apple’s iPad is only capable of registering USB hard drives (via the Camera Connection Kit, of course) that are 32GB or smaller, which may or may not bum a vast majority of you out. Thankfully, Sanho’s latest and greatest HyperDrive was tailor made to circumvent that limitation, and it just so happens to be the company’s most capacious. Checking in with 750GB of open space, this unit boasts a “patent pending ability to turn individual file folders into virtual 32GB drives on the fly that are readable by the iPad,” and as you’d expect, there’s also a CompactFlash and Secure Digital slot for offloading images directly from your camera’s memory card (at up to 40MB/sec). There’s even a 3.2-inch QVGA color display, support for JPEG and RAW files and the ability to act as a vanilla USB hard drive; it’s available now for $599, though smaller versions are available for those with less pocket change.

There’s nothing quite like the rush you get mowing down enemies with a semi-automatic rifle in a first-person-shooter game. Vaguely resembling a machine gun, G-Mate is working on Mag Gun, the latest in gun-shaped game controllers.

Generations removed from Duck Hunt’s ‘gun’ controller that shipped with the first Nintendo back in the 1980s, Mag Gun has configurable keys, joysticks, and pads to duplicate the face and trigger keys on PC, Xbox, and PS3 controllers. The buttons are programmable, so the controller works with any major gaming console.

The controller’s left analog stick corresponds to the gun’s button that is under the left thumb Instead of a right analog stick for aiming, the gun uses the wide-angle camera in its tip and IR to track the images on the screen..

The game controller is in heavy development so pricing and relese date is still unknown. G-Mate just passed the controller through the FCC recently so expect to see these hit the market soon.

There are mechanical keyboards, and then there’s Razer‘s newest duo. For the past three years, the gaming accessory company has been toiling in a back room trying to figure out how to really get mechanical keyboards right; according to it, the vast majority of the options today “feature stiff keys that cause key actuation fatigue,” and it has sought to remedy said issue with the BlackWidow and BlackWidow Ultimate. Launched today over at Gamescom, these two keyboards offer key actuation that feels much like a mouse click, with an actuation point that’s actually halfway through the full travel distance. The company claims that its power-packin’ pair has one of the lightest actuation forces for all keyboards, making it ideal for hardcore gamers who can’t be bothered with missing a single keystroke. The standard BlackWidow offers up fully programmable keys with on-the-fly macro recording as well as five additional gaming keys, while the Ultimate edition adds individually backlit keys with five levels of lighting, 3.5mm audio and microphone out jacks as well as an additional USB port. Both ‘boards are due out next month for $79.99 / $129.99, respectively, and you can peek the full specs list in the press release just past the break.
