Energizers AP1201 iPhone Battery Case Charges Everything at Once

Energizer AP1201 Battery CaseIf you need a little extra talk time on your iPhone, there are plenty of cases you can buy with built-in battery packs that will extend the life of your device between charges. Unfortunately, a number f those cases have to be removed and charged separately from your iPhone when they run down.

Thankfully, the new Energizer AP1201 Rechargeable iPhone 4 Battery Case allows you to charge both your iPhone and the battery inside the case at the same time, using the same charging cable.

The AP1201 is the latest in Energizer’s new line of rechargeable battery products, and nearly doubles the life of your iPhone 4’s built-in battery. You can check the status of the internal battery on your iPhone display like normal, and the AP1201’s built-in battery charge is indicated by hidden LEDs on the outside of the case. The case itself is slim and made of firm silicone and never has to be removed; you have access to all of the ports and buttons on the body of the phone. If you need a little extra juice for your iPhone, the Energizer AP1201 is available now at $69.99 retail price.

Moleskine launching iPhone and iPad cases: how would Hemingway play Angry Birds?

The way we saw it, it was Moleskine vs. the inevitable march of 1s and 0s that would eventually consume us all. No longer (actually, Moleskine already sells a Kindle cover, but we’re temporarily ignoring that for argument’s sake). Moleskine just announced a Digital Covers line of hybrid notebooks that include a pad of regular, “legendary” notebook paper alongside a cozy spot for your i-device of choice. Will this combination (some might say compromise) make you smarter, your prose more concise, your beard more intellectual? Of course it will. But at what cost? Sure, literature survived the decline of penmanship with the emergence of Mark Twain and his typewriter, and Douglas Adams championed the Macintosh to no end, but now that Moleskine has gone and sullied its own reputation we’re finally ready to just go ahead and say it: the novel is dead.

Free Apple iPhone 4 Bumper Case Program Ending Today

iphone-4-bumper-.jpgiPhone 4-owning procrastinators better get moving. Today is the last day to score a  free bumper from Apple. The phone’s infamous “death grip” problem can only be corrected with a case that surrounds the antenna. Therefore, Apple started the iPhone 4 Program, which gives customers a free case from a small selection provided by the company. The program ends today, September 30, though, so hurry.

Anyone who buys an iPhone 4 after the 30th will not be eligible for the free bumper. If you purchase an iPhone 4 on September 30, you can technically order a free case up until October 30. If you buy an iPhone 4 after the the 30th and still suffer from the Apple death grip problem, you can contact Apple to discuss a free case option, but this is on a case-to-case basis — no pun intended.

For more info on how to get your free iPhone 4 bumper before the deadline ends, check out Gearlog’s post, The Apple iPhone 4 Case Program: Get Your Free Bumper or Case.

Keystone Intros Eco Holster for iPhone 3GS/3G

LRHolster.jpg

Never be without power again, owners of older iPhones. Concord Keystone has introduced the Keystone Eco holster, which serves as both a rechargeable backup battery and a case. Available in black or white, this hard case delivers both front and back protection for the iPhone. It uses a mechanical spring sliding action to open and remove the iPhone. The auxiliary battery stays with the case, lessening the weight when the iPhone is in use.

The case clips to a belt, waistband, or handbag. Slide the phone into the case and it automatically begins charging. You’ll get a full charge in just three hours. Both the iPhone and the case can be charged by connecting the pair to a USB cable or outlet. Grab one now from Best Buy for $69.99.

iPod nano modded into Dreamcast VMU, magic meets nostalgia (video)

The iPod nano iWatch? That’s so last week. Apple’s sixth-gen PMP has found a far better home in one fellow’s old Dreamcast VMU (Visual Memory Unit). It takes a bit of work to get the 1.5-inch screen and headphone outlet aligned just right, but when it’s all said and done, you get one of the best and quickest homages to old school gaming around. And hey, it also acts as a big plastic fortress to protect your touchy music player. Video after the break.

Apple Peel 520 up for preorder, from the man who brought you the MicroSIMCutter

“Dear Sir or Madam,” the email began, and we almost deleted it at once, but then we realized the gentleman who wrote that line was hawking the Yosion Apple Peel 520. A quick visit to his website did nothing to allay our lingering suspicions — it appeared to be a hastily-cobbled cash-in through and through — but still, the prospect of an iPod touch case with cellular capabilities sorely tempted our wallet. We evaded the siren call and left Peel520.net without attempting a purchase, but noticed on our way out several references to the practically identical website for the MicroSIMCutter. Google tells us their owners are one and the same, so if you bought one of those sim-cutting devices (not to be confused with the Cut My Sim) and got your product as promised, we suppose you’re liable to get a good deal here. But if you have qualms, well — wait for Go Solar to formally bring the product to market, or else steer clear.

TK-421 abandons his post, brings us this flip-out QWERTY case for iPhone

Nuu Mini Key didn’t satisfy your desire for a physical keyboard on your iPhone? Try this TK-421 QWERTY case instead, which sexes up the formula with a swiveling package that hearkens back to the T-Mobile Sidekick. There’s still no extra battery life to be had here, and yes, the keypad connects via Bluetooth, but we’re willing to sacrifice a good bit for a totally awesome hinge and a dedicated number row. Invented, designed and sold by ThinkGeek, gadget stocking stuffer seller extraordinaire, the unit’s priced at a very reasonable $50. Shame it’s not slated to ship till “mid-November” and only then in limited quantities, else we’d snap up two right now. Watch that screen spin right round after the break.

Kensington KeyFolio Gives your iPad a Bluetooth Keyboard and Case

Kensington KeyFolioEven though there may be evidence that people are trading in their notebooks for iPads, that hasn’t stopped a number of new cases designed to make your iPad more like a laptop from coming to market. (All before the mythical ClamCase manages to appear, I might add.) The latest challenger is the Kensington KeyFolio Bluetooth Keyboard and Case, available to pre-order for $99.99 list.

The case itself is made of a faux-leather plastic that’s spill resistant and covers both the iPad and the keyboard when closed. When you’re ready to use your iPad, simply flip the case open so the keyboard is on the back to use the touch-screen, or rest the case on a surface like a laptop to use the keyboard. The back of the case has a flexible hinge to keep the iPad upright while you type on the keyboard. The Bluetooth keyboard has soft rubberized keys that won’t scratch your iPad’s screen when the case is closed, and comes with a 90-hour rechargeable battery.

Mophie Juice Pack Air vs. Mili PowerSpring 4 review

If you’re an iPhone owner then you’ve certainly heard of the Mophie Juice Pack. It’s emerged as the external battery pack of choice for any iPhone owner needing more untethered power than Apple can provide from its non-removable batteries. But what about all those feisty upstarts? Can they compete in terms of design, functionality, and price? Let’s find out. We put two iPhone 4 external battery pack cases — the Mophie Juice Pack Air and Mili PowerSpring 4 — head to head to see how they perform. Both promise to double the iPhone 4’s 1420mAh li-poly battery life without adding too much bulk. And surely the 1600mAh capacity Mili outlasts the 1500mAh Mophie, right? You’d be surprised.
