Pikachu is really, really excited to charge your Nintendo DSi for you

The last time we plugged in our Nintendo DSi to recharge it all we got as thanks was a little light. It turned on, the electrons flowed, and we continued our humble existence. Just think how much more exciting that menial act could have been if only we had this sucker. Hori‘s Pikachu charger accepts a DSi or DSi XL into its faux-poké ball slot and, presumably, jumps up and down excitedly as lightning bolts dance from its maniacal little fingertips to juice up your dead cell. Or, maybe it just pulls power from an AC adapter and sends it through the connector. Either way, it’s certainly more exciting than most other simple charging stands we’ve seen but, at 3,981 yen (just shy of $50), it’s also rather more expensive.

iPADock overachieves in the best sort of way

Yeah, it’s iPAD, not iPad, for this dock. PhotoFast‘s iPADock can be configured to handle dual iPads, four iPhones, or two iPhones and one iPad, thanks to its modular design. Of course, you have to thread your own iPad or iPhone charging cables through the dock, and then jack into one of the plentiful powered USB plugs in the back (three regular, four power-only), but that’s only a minor detail. The back also harbors memory card slots galore and a stash for your iPad Camera Connection Kit dongles, so quit whining. You’ll be able to score the iPADock in Japan at the end of next month for 5980 yen (about $71 US), and PhotoFast is on the hunt for a US distributor.

Wooden Charging Dock Makes iPad Look Like a TV From Mad Men

Search for an iPad case on Etsy and the choices run from leather to moleskine-lookalikes and felt. But Jonas Damon, a creative director at Frog Design, wanted something that could take the sleek, slab of glass that is the iPad and house it in a case that looks like it could have jumped out of the set of Mad Men.

So Damon transformed a fruit crate into a retro iPad charging dock. The dock takes the form of a 1970s or 1980s era television, complete with the cathode ray tube housing at the back, he says.

“I sought to enrich the iPad with something I have an emotional connection to– the home appliances of my upbringing,” says Damon on the Frog Design blog. “This lo-fidelity design language is very appealing in contrast to the gloss-black slick design trends that are currently the norm.”

Damon says the “lack of personality” of the iPad has helped people to create their own enclosures.

“In this sense, industrial design, or folk-industrial design, is thriving,” he says.

MSI’s 10-inch WindPad 100 advances past prototype stage, gets pictured with a dock

The wait for a legitimate mass market Windows 7 tablet continues, but at least MSI is showing signs of progress. The WindPad 100, which we saw at Computex in prototype form, has now reached design maturity and the concordant gallery of pictures has been distributed to the world. There’s no word of any spec changes, meaning we’re still looking at a 1.66GHz Atom Z530 CPU, 32GB SSD, 2GB RAM, Wind Touch UI overlay, and HDMI plus 2x USB ports on the stat sheet. The 100 has been joined by a new dock in these latest images, which will throw in the typical expanded connectivity options. We can probably expect to see both reappearing at IFA in Berlin in about a month’s time.

Hold on to your Foleos, folks, because it looks like Palm still hasn’t given up on the idea of a little laptop that pairs with a phone for wireless communications. However, where that former (failed) experiment called for entirely disparate hardware, here the relationship between the two would be rather more formal. In a patent filed in April and just dug up by Unwired View, Palm describes a “compact removable voice handset” and an “integrated palmtop computer.” The two can communicate wirelessly, but more interestingly they can be coupled such that “there is minimal increase to the overall size and weight” of the palmtop — in other words, the “phone” bit isn’t particularly large, making it more comfortable to hold up to your face in a conversation than your Streaks and the like. Is there actually any hardware behind this application or is this just Palm daydreaming about a Foleo 2? We’ll all just have to wait and find out.

Source R&D ships Wisair-based Warpia Easy Dock wireless docking station

It took ’em a few months, but Source R&D is finally ready to save your desktop replacement from those awful cables that are typically required when connecting a bona fide monitor, keyboard and mouse to a laptop. The Wisair-based Easy Dock works with Macs and PCs, with a single USB transceiver used to connect your mobile machine to (just) two hard-wired USB peripherals and a single DVI monitor (with a resolution cap of 1,400 x 1,050 or 1,440 x 900). iHome iA100ZE iPad alarm dock raises questions, supplies few answers

So, the iA100ZE iPad dock isn’t anywhere in the same league as the iTar. To be fair, you can’t fault iHome for trying to stir up some interest in an over-saturated market by strapping an iPad onto a fairly typical FM radio / alarm clock / dock. And if that’s your bag, it certainly seems to be more than up to the task: iHome+Sleep app integration, Bluetooth, and that patented Bongiovi punch. Only a few questions have yet to be answered: when does it ship? For how much? And, most crucially, will you be able to sleep with an iPad shining in your face all night? Dell Streak’s car dock gets a video unboxing, early road test

Given the size of Dell’s Streak (it’s rocking a 5-inch screen, in case you were wondering), you’ve probably considered using it as a dedicated routing machine with Google Maps Navigation at the helm. The only problem? Using your arm as the window mount. We heard a few weeks ago that the Streak’s official car dock was finally on sale over in the UK, and it looks as if the bugger is finally shipping there, too. The best news? It seems to hold up pretty well to some of Britain’s bumpiest roadways — see for yourself after the break.
