Hasta La Gadget!

Complaints seem to be growing among some users that Windows Phone 7 is consuming an abnormally plump quantity of data when you’re not doing anything. Granted, there’s lots of stuff on the platform that might need data continuously — email accounts and live tiles, for example — but folks are reporting consumption measuring in multiple megabytes per hour, which can add up pretty quickly: 2MB per hour over a month is nearly 1.5GB, which can be a bummer for anyone with a 2GB data plan. The real issue, though, is that at least some of the data seems to be ignoring available WiFi networks and choosing 3G instead, so there’s no great way to definitively avoid the leak even when you’re in the comfortable confines of your own home. Our money — our hopeful money, that is — is on this being fixed in Microsoft’s first big update that should be coming any day now, but in the meantime, users look to be getting at least some relief by setting mail accounts to manual update and turning off location services. Anyone out there seeing this?

SteelSeries is on hand here at CES, and as with Sleek Audio, Turtle Beach and hordes of others, it’s also introducing new cans at the show. First up is the Spectrum 7xb wireless headset for Xbox 360, which touts a retractable microphone, four-piece breakdown for travel and interchangeable cloth and leather earcups. You’ll also get in-game volume controls along the right earcup, LiveMix technology — which balances in-game audio with voice communication — and the new ExactSND feature, a quick-button option that allows users to switch between three settings that have been preconfigured for different sounds. It’ll ship in Q2 for $149.99. Moving on, the Siberia Neckband is making a triumphant return, this time with innate support for the iPod, iPhone and iPad via an inline three-button remote. More details on specifics are embedded after the break, with a ship date of today and a price tag of $79.99.

Sony announced a heap of new Cyber-shot cameras earlier this week, and after spying the entire line posing Miss America-style at Sony’s CES booth, we decided to go hands on. The DSC-TX100V’s OLED screen, which is a Cyber-shot first, was definitely impressive in terms of clarity, brightness and color reproduction — despite only viewing a fellow convention goer obstructing the booth. The DSC-TX10 is also one the classiest looking ruggedized camera we’ve ever seen and thankfully lacks accents such as excessive rubber detailing. Sony wasn’t really down with us testinghow much grief it could actually take though. Similarly, we had hoped to check out the DSC-WX10’s 1920 x 1080 60fps video capture mode — since it’s the only digital compact to support it — but that idea got shut down the moment a few Sony VIPs arrived. Still, we did manage to take a few shots of each in the wilds of the convention center which you can check out in the gallery below.

It seems like everyone has a bone to pick with Mozilla’s new Firefox 2 theme but who do you tell? Asa Dotzler posted on his blog that he wants to hear your opinion. He said “I haven’t had the time to look for opinions outside of the regular watering holes, but so far it looks like the nos are outnumbering the yeas.“

I think the theme blends in well with Windows Vista because of the glossy icons, but if you use the classic Windows theme then it starts to look a little out of place. One person in the comments said that on a Mac it is not a “visual refresh”, instead it is a “visual disaster.” Another person went on to say that the Home icon looks like a refreshed Netscape 3 icon.

So do you like the new theme or is this going to be something that you switch immediately after installation?
