Panasonic goes 3D crazy with AG-3DA1 camcorder and AG-HMX100 video mixer

Well, what do you know? The world’s first pro quality, fully-integrated full HD 3D camcorder has a name — and it’s up for pre-order. The AG-3DA1 camera (available this fall) is equipped with dual lenses and two full 1920 x 1080 2.07 megapixel 3-MOS imagers for recording 1080/60i, 50i, 30p, 25p and 24p (native) and 720/60p and 50p in AVCHD. It can record for up to 180 minutes on dual 32GB SD cards in AVCHD PH mode, and sports dual HD-SDI out, HDMI (version 1.4), two XLR connectors, built-in stereo microphone and twin-lens camera remotes. This bad boy is listed at $21,000, and you can reserve yours for $1,000 down. That’s nice of them, huh? But that ain’t all! The newly announced AG-HMX100 video mixer (available this June) supports full 3D as well (we’re sensing a theme here), as does the 25-inch BT-3DL2550 LCD monitor for field use (available this September). Just the thing for filming your Avatar fan films, huh? The latter two are priced at $5,600 and $9,900 respectively. PR after the break.

Sanyo rolls out GH2, CG102, CG20 1080i camcorders in the US

Sanyo just announced a trio of 1080i camcorders for Japan last week, and its now gotten official with some ever so slightly different model for the US, which look to just be the beginning of a new wave of Sanyo camcorders rolling out in the coming weeks and months. As you can see, these ones a bit more subdued than their brightly colored Japanese counterparts, and Sanyo has naturally changed the model names to keep everyone on their toes (they’re now the VPC-GH2, VPC-CG102, and VPC-CG20). You’ll still get the same 1080i video and either 14- or 10-megapixel still images as before, along with a somewhat unique 12x “double-range zoom” on the GH2 and CG102, which apparently lets you switch between a wide-angle and telephoto zoom for videos. Sure, full 1080p would have been nice, but it’s hard to complain too much with prices of $229 and $199.

JVC trots out Everio GZ-HM340 HD camcorder with 16GB of internal storage

Too busy to deal with 8mm, DVDs or VHS tapes? Who isn’t, right? JVC is looking to erase the tragic memories of converting your home videos to a format that someone could use by introducing the newest member of the Everio camcorder family: the GZ-HM340. Stocked with 16GB of internal Flash memory, a 20x optical Konica Minolta zoom lens, 1.37 megapixel CMOS sensor, image stabilization, one-touch upload to YouTube, face detection and an SD / SDHC expansion slot, this bad boy is set to land later in the month for a nickle under $500. Here’s hoping it captures to something other than AVCHD, but our gut tells us this might be one dream that doesn’t come true.

Sanyo bungs 23x optical zoom into Xacti DMX-SH11, Full HD into DMX-CG110

Ever tried operating a handheld cam at 20x optical zoom? Without a tripod, your recordings tend to look like they were taken in the middle of an earthquake, so quite frankly, we ain’t so wildly impressed with Sanyo’s 23x-rated SH11 camcorder — okay, we are, but we thought we’d inform you that that silly large number comes with limited use scenarios. Freshly announced, carrying 16GB of internal storage, and coming to Japan in late April, this is part of Sanyo’s Dual Camera series, as its CMOS sensor is capable of 4 megapixel stills as well as 1080i / 30fps video in MPEG-4 format. It’ll be joined there by the pistol grip-shaped CG110, which improves on the previous CGs by moving up to Full HD recording, adding 16GB of built-in storage, and even supporting SDXC cards. Check the source links for more.

Twin Video camera has two lenses, two mics, one body

Ion Audio, who seem to enjoy doing unconventional work in the electronic peripherals space, are back with a two-way pocket camcorder that records both sides of a conversation, literally. Strapped with pairs of microphones and cameras, it is capable of doing picture-in-picture or split-screen recording, and can selectively switch between the audio streams depending on which side you want to hear at which time. Just skip along past the break and all will be elucidated — price is not yet specified, but the Twin Video cam should be arriving at some point in the first half of this year.

Panasonic’s new AVCHD camcorders put that SDXC memory to good use

So, you’ve sold a few kidneys and got yourself one of those fancy new 64GB SDXC cards. What do you put it in? Well, how about one of these new HDC-series camcorders from Panasonic? Just launched in Japan, the three cameras shoot 1080i HD with 25x optical zoom, optical image stabilization and 2.7-inch flip-out LCDs. The big difference between the AVCHD shooters is the onboard storage, with 96GB of flash in the HDC-TM70, 64GB in the HDC-TM60, and a 160GB HDD in the HDC-HS60. Of course, who needs internal storage when you’ve got 64GB in your SD card and a terrible, well-compensated empty feeling in your gut? No word on price for this trio, but they should be out in Japan later next month.

Panasonic’s $21,000 3D camcorder gets the hands-on treatment

You know how you shoot 3D? You strap two standard camcorders together, film, and then utilize one of Intel’s newest chip to merge the two into something with depth. Alternatively, you can plunk down $21,000 for a pre-order on Panasonic’s newfangled 3D camcorder, which was just introduced (officially, that is) at CES this week. Our home slices over at Switched were able to get a plain, mundane 2D camera on this piece at the company’s booth, and while it doesn’t exactly look as useful as a fully loaded Ford Focus, we hear it’s great for making Avatar fanboy clips. Hit the source link and give the video a look, won’t you?

Sanyo Xacti VPC-CS1 hands-on: a full 1080p camcorder in your pocket

At first glance, the Sanyo Xacti VPC-CS1 is thin. Really thin. We got to play around with the tiny camcorder, and fell in love with the form factor. It’s much thinner than our older Xacti, and we had no problem slipping it into our pocket — though getting out the door of Sanyo’s meeting room with it was another matter altogether. Wait, did we mention it’s thin?

Sanyo Xacti VPC-SH1 full HD camcorder with wide-angle lens announced

Sanyo‘s just let out details on the Xacti VPC-SH1 ahead of its February launch. This full HD camcorder boasts an “industry’s smallest, lightest, and thinnest class body” at just 7.2 ounces in weight and 1.69 inches in thickness. At the same time, you get a 35mm wide-angle effect through the magic of enlarged sensor area — full HD is only two megapixels while this Xacti uses a 3.5-megapixel area in video mode. You get the usual H.264 goodness here, but Sanyo’s taken one step further by applying for iFrame certification to keep the few adventurous users happy. $399.99 isn’t bad for this spec and form factor — the bulkier FH1A from last October cost an extra Benjamin, for instance, but there’s no harm in waiting for some sample videos and 10-megapixel photos before smashing our piggy bank.

Sanyo Intros Worlds Smallest Dual-Camcorder

sanyodualcam.jpg

Today at CES, Sanyo showed of the Xacti, VPC-CS1, a snazzy little dual camcorder that it claims is “smallest, thinnest, and lightest.” The snazzy little camera is 1.06 inches thick and weighs roughly five ounces. It shoots video in full 1080p HD and takes stills.

The VPC-CS1 is due out in February of this year. At $299.99, it’s a bit pricier than the Flip an its ilk, but with features like 10x optical zoom, its certainly feels like a step up.
