Video: ASUS Eee Stick demoed at CeBIT

We already gave you a sneak peek at ASUS’ Eee Sticks yesterday, but we couldn’t resist video taping a fellow giving these a go today. The not-at-all-familiar tennis title worked about like you’d expect it to (if you’ve ever played a Wii, that is), but judging by the pent up frustration we felt from over on the sidelines, the learning curve on these is a bit steeper than advertised. Just mash play to live vicariously through this dude.

ASUS shows off Eee Stick at CeBIT

Just in case you missed the ASUS barrage from earlier this morning, we’ll bring you back up to speed while also showing off another fun gizmo the company drug to Hannover. The motion sensing Eee Sticks were on hand at CeBIT, and in varying colors to boot. We were too bashful to get a video of ourselves playing in the demo rig the company had set up, but we’re making it our mission to coerce other attendees to have a go and let us film them tomorrow. ‘Til then, have a look at the stationary Sticks below.

DualShock Vortex concept controller brings the neGcon out of the nineties

DualShock Vortex concept controller brings the neGcon out of the nineties

In the halcyon days before dual analog sticks, when gamers had only D-pads and buttons and that’s the way we liked it, serious PlayStation drifters had one weapon of choice for ‘Ridge Racer’ battles: the neGcon from Namco. It and its twisting mechanism never really caught on, but it hasn’t been entirely forgotten, reborn through the DualShock Vortex pictured above, a controller extending the same concept to the PS3, offering the 45 degrees of twist you’ll want for Gran Turismo 5 (if it ever ships) plus the analog sticks you’ll need for Killzone 2. Alas, it’s just a rendered concept from Israeli designer Tamar Fleisher at this point, and is rather unlikely to show up at a game retailer near you, but maybe if enough of you e-mail the kind folks at the now Namco Bandai they’ll think about making it a reality.

Modder hooks NES controller into Nintendo DS

This… this is dedication. While most softcore gamers are totally kosher with using the standard DS button layout to hit up retro titles like Super Mario Bros., Parked Bowab is definitely not. In order to bring back a sense of dignity to the heralded titles of the past (and to show off his fantastic modding skills), he hard wired an original NES controller to a Nintendo DS. The result? Authentic NES controls for games made famous on the iconic console. Bravo Parker, bravo.

Datel kicks the retro up a notch with Famicom Wii controller

If dropping 80 bones on a Wii Super Famicom Classic controller sounds a wee bit insane, how’s about a Jackson for a Famicom Wii controller? Datel’s Old Skool Retro Controller (seriously, how great is that name?) works with any game that supports the Wii Classic Controller, and the unique “rapid fire” mode should really keep things interesting when firing up the Virtual Console. Can’t really go wrong at $19.99, right? Right.

Wii Super Famicom Classic Controller on sale to general public

Remember that limited edition Super Famicom Classic Controller? You know, that one that was once available only to Club Nintendo members over in Japan? By some remarkable feat of magic, wit and unmatched skill, the crew over at Play-Asia has secured stock to sell to the public at large, and wouldn’t you know it, they have no issues shipping to the United States of America. Of course, you could also execute the X2Wii hack in order to make your existing SNES controller play nice with the Wii, but where’s the fun in that? Unfortunately, this piece will run you just over $80 shipped, so you should make sure you’re really as hardcore a gamer as you say you are before plunking down.

[Thanks, Marcus]

Homebrew Street Fighter IV PS3 controller stands up on its own two legs

Anyone can go out there and put their hands on a couple of commercially manufactured Street Fighter IV joysticks, but there is something really cool about a simple, well executed homebrew mod. This PS3 controller may not be the cutting edge of industrial design, but it does say: “I can’t wait for the new Street Fighter. It’s gonna be sweeeet.” Previously a wooden TV table and some controller stuff, the proper holes have been drilled, the innards affixed to the bottom and a picture of Chun-Li thrown in for good measure. We wouldn’t recommend placing a drink on the thing (we know how carried away you get) but who has time for a beverage when you’re consumed with vengeance?

Unreal Tournament 3 deathmatches: now with 4-player Wiimote support

If you thought that Wiimote hack for Left 4 Dead was hot stuff (and you did, it’s pointless to deny it), then you’ll be just as stoked — if not more so — for this one. From the same Ryan Tani comes this, a setup that enables four gamers to gather ’round an Unreal Tournament 3 deathmatch and exchange blows via Wiimotes. A guide on how to pull this off yourself is forthcoming, but ’til then, we’d invite you to check out a demonstration vid of the author (and three lucky pals) enjoying the spoils of his labor after the break.

XCM Dominator joystick for PlayStation 3 ships next week for $89.99

Well tell ya, these cats at XCM really know how to craft some irresistible gear. After making us wait seven painstaking months for a new gadget to drool over, the creators of the Mega-Cool component-to-VGA converter have announced that the Dominator Joystick for PlayStation 3 is all set to ship next week. The highly programmable arcade-style stick includes a Combo Attacker and Rapid Fire mode for borderline cheating, and the four memory buttons enable macros to be stored and kept at arm’s reach. Of course, a gaming joystick wouldn’t be a gaming joystick without a superabundance of blue LEDs, so you’ll certainly find those there as well. You can toss in your pre-order now if you’d like, but make sure you’ve got $89.99 free and clear before doing so.

Stanton’s SCS-1 digital DJ system finally ships

It sure took ’em long enough, but Stanton has just announced that its completely boss SCS-1 System is finally shipping to eager DJs. The system is comprised of the SCS.1d deck and the SCS.1m mixer, both of which give funkmasters that digital flair while preserving the familiar feel of older school gear. One of the unique technologies is the HSS1394 protocol, which is a proprietary high-speed communications standard developed specifically for the SC System 1 in order to transmit MIDI messages rapidly over FireWire. You’ll also find a preset library for the System (Traktor Pro included), and Stanton has vowed to make updates available regularly and free of charge. Check the full release just past the break.
