Fossil won’t ship the Meta Watch until August, Dick Tracy wannabes get antsy

Some of you with a James Bond complex might have been waiting on Fossil’s Meta Watches, a duo of wristpieces that use Texas Instrument’s CC2560 Bluetooth radio to pull in emails, Facebook updates, weather forecasts, and more — depending on what else developers cook up for it, that is. On top of that, the SDK allows Android smartphones and tablets to register button presses and receive sensor data from the watches, and then respond by sending text or triggering the vibration motor. If you already set aside $200 when they went up for pre-order two months back, you’re going to have to twiddle your thumbs a bit longer. In response to a tweet from a curious customer, Bill Geiser, vice president of Fossil Watch Technology, said that thanks to some part delays, the two are now on track to ship in August, not July. If this is all new to you, that means you’ve got some time to ponder whether you’d rather have the analog / digital version or the fully digital one with a larger memory-in-pixel LCD. Decisions, decisions, folks.

Toshiba delays Eee Pad Slider, stretches the definition of 'soon'

That promised May release for the Eee Pad Slider shifted to a rather more ambiguous “soon” a little over a month ago, and now we’re sad to report it’s moving further back still. ASUS has an update on its UK Facebook profile indicating that the QWERTYfied tablet will now be shipping there sometime this Autumn, taking this extra time to throw up some surveys and better “understand what is important for our customers.” That sounds dangerously close to the company’s feet getting a little cold as it prepares to launch the most interestingly designed Honeycomb slab we’ve yet seen, but maybe if everybody leaves some encouraging comments we can get this reluctant bride out of the limo and down the aisle, already.

Art Lebedev’s Optimus Mini Six enters production, Popularis unsurprisingly delayed

We were a bit skeptical when we heard that the notoriously delay-riddled Art Lebedev Studio would be releasing a follow-up to its Optimus Mini Three keyboard this year, but it looks like the Mini Six is moving ever closer to reality. Yesterday, the company unveiled new images of the USB-powered peripheral, confirming that it’s in “early production” and slated for release later this year. True to its name, the latest addition to the Optimus family features six LCD shortcut keys, though pricing and precise availability remain a mystery. As for that pricey Optimus Popularis keyboard we saw exactly a year ago, its release has been delayed until 2012 — which, in Lebedevese, means “anytime within the next decade.” In the meantime, you can feast your eyes on an extra image of the Mini Six, waiting for you after the break.

Fujitsu delays TH40/D release, puts slide-out tablet dreams on hold

If you’ve been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the latest shape-shifting slate, it looks like you’re just going to have to wait. Fujitsu’s just announced that it will postpone the release of the convertible TH40/D tablet — the Windows 7 slide-out was originally slated for a late June debut in Japan. Unfortunately, the outfit’s being rather tight-lipped when it comes to details, saying simply that the holdup is due to “development delays.” Of course, we’ll keep you posted with details if / when Fujitsu decides to open up.

Toshiba’s Regza AT300 tablet for the Japanese market delayed until late July, will ship with Android 3.1

To any of our Japanese readers who’ve been impatiently awaiting Toshiba’s Regza AT300 tablet, you’re going to have to hold your breath a touch longer. The 10.1-inch, Japan-only slate is going to miss its expected June arrival, and ship in late July instead. That extra tedious trip to market could be worth it, though: when the AT300 finally does land in Akihabara, it’ll come with Android 3.1 and all of its resizable widgets on board. But don’t expect any surprises, hardware-wise: it’ll still pack Tegra 2, a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, and those full-sized HDMI and USB ports that can make a nerd’s heart sing. Makes sense to us, since the Thrive — the same tablet for the US market — was already slated to ship with the latest version of Honeycomb. Fair’s fair, right?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 experiencing shipping delays, unavailable at some outlets

So, we knew the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was coming, but it looks like some shoppers eagerly anticipating the tablet’s arrival will go home empty handed today. We just received word from a Samsung rep that there have been “shipping delays to some stores in certain regions.” They went on to say, “We expect most retail locations to have inventory by tomorrow while supplies last.” That’s all we have at the moment, but we’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 8.9 troubled by screen issues, chubbier version the result?

Everyone ’round here knows that Samsung has a lusty 10.1- and premature 7-inch version of its Galaxy Tab tablet. But we’ve heard nary a peep from Samsung about that $469 8.9-incher announced alongside its bigger, just-as-thin sibling back in March. We might know why. According to Korean news site Etnews, Samsung is having trouble getting it to market due to low yields of the 8.9’s G1F touch-panel which uses one less film layer than conventional GFF (glass fiber filter) panels. This G1F architecture is behind Samsung’s Super Clear LCD which you’ll find on Sammy’s own Galaxy Player, (Russian) Nexus S, and Wave II handsets. Etnews claims that Samsung will offset the G1F shortfall with GFF-type touch panels that are 30 – 40 percent thicker and dimmer, thanks to the extra layer. If true then we have one question: which regions will get the chunkier Galaxy Tab 8.9 when if finally does launch this summer?

New and improved Droid Bionic getting a 4.5-inch display and docking connection?

Since Motorola delayed the launch of the LTE-equipped Droid Bionic to carry out “several enhancements,” we’ve debated if this might entail swapping out Tegra 2 in favor of a PowerVR GPU. But now leaked photos are starting to surface, and it would seem that Motorola went and redesigned the body, too. These pics reveal a phone what might be a 4.5-inch qHD display running Gingerbread — not the 4.3-incher with Froyo that was originally slated to ship this spring. Even more intriguing, the revamped handset sports an Atrix-like docking connection, suggesting that new and improved user experience will include the option of a so-called lapdock. And, as an added flourish, Motorola smoothed out the rubberized back cover, nixing the pattern it had at CES. Fisker Karma delayed again, but only by a tiny little bit

Yes, that’s a Fisker Karma at the Monaco Grand Prix starting line, but no, it won’t be taking off just yet, at least not this month. Last we heard from Roger Ormisher, Fisker Automotive’s Communications chief, the electric supercar was set to debut in the US during the June / July timeframe, but that’s now been nudged that extra bit later, with “the first” dealer demonstration vehicles and customer orders landing firmly in July. So, you’ll have to keep stashing that $95,900 under your mattress for a little while longer, but look on the bright side: Fisker’s delays are getting shorter all the time!

BlackBerry Bold 9900 delayed until September, IT admins everywhere weep

BlackBerry fans itching to get your touch on: don’t reach for your wallets just yet. BGR is reporting that RIM’s upcoming Bold 9900 has been delayed until September, which is a bit later than the expected “Summer” release quoted back at BlackBerry World. We know you’re heartbroken, but it looks like you’ll have to live vicariously through our video hands-on until you can pocket one of your own.
