LG launches ‘RoboKing Triple Eye’ smartphone-controlled vacuuming robot

You won’t have to leave your post on the couch, but you will have to lift a finger to your smartphone in order to tidy up with LG’s ‘RoboKing Triple Eye’ VR6180VMNV robot vacuum. Unlike it’s purple cousin who spends his time looking inwards, this little guy is always looking outward with its three cameras, capturing video and sending it to your smartphone or PC over WiFi. The robot uses sensors to create a plan of attack map of your home, allowing you to move it around by clicking the filthiest parts. Like a well-trained puppy, the dust buster also responds to voice commands from up to 5 feet away and it doesn’t even bark — only emitting 48dB of sound while sucking up dust. Of course, laziness of this caliber doesn’t come cheap, as it costs 899,000 Korean won, or around $840 bones.

LG Thrill 4G will arrive on September 4th, AT&T confirms

Following a series of delays and setbacks, it looks like the Thrill 4G will indeed be coming to AT&T on September 4th. The carrier confirmed the date late last night, in a tweet promising that LG’s glasses-free 3D handset will make our world “come alive.” Back in July, AT&T confirmed that the US version of the Optimus 3D would officially sell for $99, though that could very well vary across retailers. LG HX906TX home theater system promises 3D sound, enviable Super Bowl acoustics

Looking to enhance the audio in your man (or lady) cave? Then you may want to check out LG’s new HX906TX 9.1 cinema sound system — a ten-speaker package claiming to deliver “truly 360-degree sound.” It’s designed to make you feel like you’re at the center of the audio (even if you’re really at the far end of the room smooshed between two people on the couch) — the way you might hear in a concert hall or really large bathroom with great acoustics. LG says it uses a DSP algorithm to pump audio vertically and horizontally using 3D reflectors, extending sound upwards and filling in the gaps. You’ll also get added features like Blu-ray playback, WiFi Direct and Smart TV connectivity to smartphones and tablets using an app, although there’s no word yet on pricing or availability. LG VS920 pushes through FCC with Verizon LTE, could be the LG Revolution 2?

The LTE-toting LG Revolution is still the most recent phone to debut on Verizon’s 4G lineup — at least for another week or so, that is — but we’re already seeing clues to the phone’s sequel popping up. We saw the Revolution 2 show up on a leaked roadmap so the mysterious follow-up has been on our radar, but we weren’t expecting to see it quite this early. Yet here it is: the LG VS920, complete with Verizon’s LTE Band 13, global GSM / EDGE and 900 /1900 / 2100 WCDMA and HSPA, has received the FCC’s blessing. Now, it doesn’t specifically come out saying it’s the successor, nor does it signify its relation to the previous device; since the original Revolution is designated the LG VS910, however, we’re taking the liberty to put two and two together here. LG gets ready for IFA with a pair of new monitors

LG clearly couldn’t wait for IFA to officially kick off to show the world a pair of new 23 inch monitors. The company announced the 7.2 millimeter thick E91, which offers SUPER+ Resolution and a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1, helping to make it the “highest picture quality for any digital content,” according to the company. The D237IPS, meanwhile, features Film Pattern Retarder (FPR) 3D technology with Flicker-Free Certification and a 3D brightness of 100 nits. No word yet on pricing or availability for either display.

LG 3D Game Converter adds depth to regular 2D games

Spoiler alert! Instead of waiting to surprise people at IFA this week, LG has released details of its new 3D Game Converter for the Optimus 3D early. The software arrives as part of the October maintenance release, promising to take any OpenGL game that runs in landscape and convert it to 3D. Around 50 games will come with pre-optimized settings — the rest you tweak yourself. Open any game up in the app and it will try to split the foreground and background and recombine both in 3D. Feel your eyes crossing and a headache setting in just by thinking about playing this way? No worries, they’re all still playable in 2D as well. LG Display cuts spending targets for 2012, amid sagging LCD demand

LG Display has decided to drastically cut its expenditure target for 2012, in yet another sign that the LCD market is going through some tough times. Today, the manufacturer announced that it will spend only three trillion won (about $2.8 billion) on its production facilities next year — a 33 percent decrease from its previously revised budget and LG Display’s lowest expenditure target since 2009. The company also said that it has no plans to build a new LCD plants in 2012, suggesting that it may already be facing excess panel supply. Analysts are predicting that demand will remain subdued throughout the end of 2011, though LG Display CFO James Jeong had previously said he expects things to pick up by the beginning of next year.

LG unveils S430, S530 Aurora laptops for people who like muted hues

LG has added two new stars to its constellation of Aurora laptops, with the LG S430 and LG S530. Both models are powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, with the S430 boasting a 14-inch, 1366 x 768 HD LCD and the S530 rocking a slightly larger, 15.6-inch display, available in either HD or HD+ (1600 x 900) resolution. Both also feature 8GB of DDR3 memory and up to 750GB of HDD space (5400 RPM), along with your standard WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity. Perhaps most notable, however, is their sleek, metallic veneer and crystalline, scratch-free finish, available in both purple and blue. Pricing remains a mystery, but the pair should be available in Africa, Asia and the Middle East by early next month, before making their way to Europe and the US shortly thereafter. LG and GM team up to build next generation of electric cars

Abbreviation loving multinationals Lucky Goldstar and General Motors have entered into an “Electric Vehicle Cooperation” agreement to build the next generation of EVs. The partnership follows a successful dating phase where LG supplied the batteries for the Chevy Volt. Now, teams from both companies will collaborate on key components, vehicle structures and architectures — which we take to mean that it’s a more substantial proposition than just battery sharing. The plan is to meet the new US fuel economy targets by 2025, so the design phase for the new autos will kick off soon. Let’s hope this new venture bears some fruit that’s faster than a flying banana.

LG announces LSM-100 Scanner Mouse, saves valuable desk space

You may recall, back at CES, we got our hands on LG’s LSM-100 mouse scanner and were able to try it out for ourselves. Well it appears that you may have that same opportunity soon. The company has announced that it will be “opening a new era for scanners” at IFA in a few days with its mouse that boasts a built-in scanner. Simply by holding the Smart Scan button, you’ll be able to save or drag and drop scanned images as large as A3 paper size in a variety of formats — PNG, JPEG, TIFF, and PDF, just to name a few — by swiping the mouse over it. If that wasn’t enough to entice you, the peripheral also features Optical Character Recognition that converts text from said images into an editable Word document. Perhaps lost in all this is the fully functioning mouse bit… which you’ll probably need as well. No word yet on pricing or availability, but hopefully soon, you’ll have room on your desk for one of these.
