Justin Bieber Blocked from YouTube for Uploading Justin Bieber Music

Thumbnail image for justinbieberbike.jpg

Poor, poor Justin Bieber. He created some music, and all he wanted to do was share it with the world. The teenage Canadian pop star attempted to upload his new song “Pray” to his YouTube account, only to be blocked by the service’s copyright protection software. The Google-owned video sharing site informed him that the content was the property of Universal Music Group–his label.

Bieber was pissed, so naturally he took to Twitter to air his aggressions, writing, “yo youtube…how u gonna block my own song?!?!?!” Oh snap, son.

Scorned, the Biebz turned to the arms of another, “dear youtube…we started this journey and now u r cheatin on me with this vevo chica…i see how it is…i will be over here with facebook,” he followed up in another tweet.

YouTube tweeted back, stating, “sorry about the upload pain around ‘Pray’. That’s between you and your label but we love you [both] so let’s figure this out!” Alas, Bieber would not stick around to find out if the site would make good on its promise. He did indeed upload the video to YouTube. Again, on Twitter, “no one keeps my music from my fans. nobody.”

Larry and Sergey, consider yourselves warned.

Unicorn Cow Discovered in China

Unicorn cow .jpg

Looks like unicorn meat may be more than just a meme-tastic joke. A farmer in China’s Hebei province is the proud owner of a unicorn cow. That’s a bit of a misnomer, actually–the cow really has three horns, but the one smack dab in the center of her head is much larger than the two normal ones on either side. It measures a full eight inches.

The owner first noticed the horn when the cow was born two years ago–though back then it was just a small bump on her forehead.

There is apparently some debate over whether the three-horned cow is a “true unicorn,” though not for the reasons you’d expect (i.e. it has three horns). LA-based “supernatural survivorologist” Seth Greening told AOL,

To know for sure if it is a true unicorn, one would have to talk to the crowds who have touched Mr. Jia’s cow and document how many conditions were healed, how many guilty parties identified, how many virginities restored, etc.

Drugged Up Jedi Gets Prison Sentence for Beating

obi-wan-kenobi-01-large.jpg

A 36-year-old Bucks County, Pennsylvania resident was sentenced to eight to 20 years in jail for a beating. The judge reportedly gasped upon seeing images of the victim. The man was high on prescription drugs. When the police arrived, he told them that he was Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The man, Milan Marinkovic, apparently doesn’t remember the incident. He told the press, “I woke up in a holding cell at the police station,” his mind a blank. When police arrived at the scene, the faux-Jedi master was standing above Sean Delp, his 30-year-old victim.

Delp says that Marinkovic approached him in a parking lot, seemingly unprovoked. Marinkovic choked him, punched him, elbowed his face, and finally stopped on his head, rendering him unconscious.

“I hope one day that he can function in society without waking up with blood on his hands, but I don’t know when that will be,” Delp told the press.

Upon viewing the images, the judge told Marinkovic, “”This is, without a doubt, the worst case I’ve ever seen involving a beating that did not result in death. This was absolutely an attempt on your part to kill this man.”

So much for the Jedi mind trick.

Promiscuity Linked to DNA

Prone to one-night stands? Blame your parents. Or, more precisely, blame your genes. A new study published on November 30th has linked dopamine receptor DRD4 to infidelity. The gene is a doozy–it’s also been linked to alcoholism and gambling–also, according to Fox News, the love of horror movies and liberalism are also linked to the gene (no, the study wasn’t published by Karl Rove).

Postdoctoral fellow Justin Garcia said of the study in a recent press statement,

What we found was that individuals with a certain variant of the DRD4 gene were more likely to have a history of uncommitted sex, including one-night stands and acts of infidelity.

The motivation seems to stem from a system of pleasure and reward, which is where the release of dopamine comes in. In cases of uncommitted sex, the risks are high, the rewards substantial and the motivation variable–all elements that ensure a dopamine rush.

According to the study, those with the gene are twice as likely to have a history of one-night stands.

A Real TRON: Legacy Light Cycle Can Be Yours for $55,000

In the battle for what’s probably the ultimate piece of movie memorabilia for a film that hasn’t been released yet, this real-life TRON: Legacy light cycle takes the cake. Parker Brothers’ Custom Choppers down in Florida decided that it would be a good idea to build 10 real, functioning motorcycles that just happen to look and drive exactly like the iconic light cycles from the film. If you’d like to own one, all you’ll need is a quick “buy now” finger and $55,000. According to a post at Wired’s Autopia blog, there are only four of the original 10 left.
Admittedly you don’t get the massive stream of light out of the back that destroys anything that runs into it, and if the video above is any indication the light cycles look downright uncomfortable to ride and difficult to maneuver, but hey – if you’re a big enough fan with deep enough pockets, none of that matters, right?

ASUS and Lamborghini Unveil New, High-End Laptop Accessories

Lamborghini WX Mouse

Asus and Lamborghini have a long history of working together on Lamborghini-branded computers and peripherals, and now the two companies have released a line of laptop bags and peripherals designed to keep your laptop safe when you travel.
Among the new lineup are Lamborghini-branded laptop sleeves and bags in two designs: one that fits smaller 12-inch laptops and another larger bag for laptops up to 17-inches. You can choose between a messenger-style bag or a backpack, both proudly emblazoned with the Lamborghini shield in the center.
The two companies also announced the Lamborghini WX-wireless laser mouse, which boasts a 10-meter wireless range and a scroll wheel with tire treads, and a line of 640GB USB external hard drives. Granted, you don’t have to use all of these Lamborghini peripherals and accessories with a laptop of the same brand, but I’m sure Lamborghini would prefer that you did. Pricing and availability outside of Europe have yet to be announced.

Ask’s Top Questions of 2010: Coffee, iPads, Bieber

Thumbnail image for justinbieberbike.jpg

We’re nearing the end of the year, which can only mean one thing in the tech world: lists! So, so many lists! This is the point where search engines celebrate the past year by issuing the top trends from the past 12 months.

Ask.com does things a little differently, of course. Given the nature of the site’s queries, it marks the occasion by issuing the top questions–and answers–of the year. What was the biggest question of the year? Something to do with the Oil Spill? The World Cup? And number of terrifying political crises?

Nope. Coffee. Cheap Coffee.

The top question of 2010 was: “What is the best coffee under $10?” The top answer: Dunkin Donuts. The number two question: “Are the new mini net books any good?” The answer: buy an iPad.

Justin Bieber topped the celebrity questions, with two of the top three. (“How old is Justin Bieber?” and “Does Justin Bieber have a girlfriend?”) Curious users also wanted to know whether Lady Gaga is a guy, Beyonce is pregnant, and what Slash’s real name is.

Thanks Ask.com.

Dutch Student Wants to Turn Times Square into “Art Exhibit”

times_square_art.jpg

Times Square is known for plenty of things–Broadway theaters, the giant, illuminated ads, the New Year’s Eve ball drop. Until fairly recently, it was known for being the epicenter of adult entertainment, as well, until then-Mayor Giuliani “Disneyfied” the space, pushing smut shops to the outskirts of the area.

Dutch Student Justus Bruns wants to make the area famous for another reason: he has gathered a group of art enthusiasts together to help him convert Times Square into a temporary art space. The group is trying to get together enough money to buyout all of the billboards and video displays in Times Square for a day, a feat that will cost them an estimated $24 million.

Bruns launched the Times Square to Art Square effort 11 months ago and is attempting to pull together funds via the Web. He told AOL, “This is about dreaming to make the impossible possible,” adding, “We really want to be a bottom-up movement to show the world what is possible using the Internet.”

Bruns insists that the project isn’t anti-advertising–it’s just pro-art,

It’s a sad fact that you can only see art in museum–that you really have to pay $15 to go see art. To use billboard space for art doesn’t mean we are against advertising. We just think it would be a great way to show art to people.

Google Celebrates Rosa Parks

rosa_parks_405.jpg

Fifty-five years ago today, a woman made history by refusing to stand up on a bus. On December 1st 1955, Rosa Parks, a 42-year-old seamstress living in Montgomery, Alabama would not surrender her seat to a white passenger. Parks was arrested. Her actions lead to the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a pivotal moment in the fight for civil rights.

Google is honoring the historical occasion with a bus doodle today, a group of four mult-cultural children representing the “O,” “G,” and “L.” Clicking the link will bring users to the Rosa Parks search page.

In 1979, Parks was awarded the NAACP’s highest award, the Spingarn Medal. In 1996, Bill Clinton presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 2005, the 50th anniversary of the event, December 1st was declared National Transit Tribute to Rosa Parks Day by the American Public Transportation Association.

When Parks died that same year, flags in all U.S. public areas were flown at half-staff.
