JSCO’s noiseless mouse: coming soon to your local library, church and mime convention

For years now, Thanko has had the silent mouse market on lock-down. You need a silent mouse? You buy Thanko. End. Of. Story. At long last, a formidable opponent has entered the fray, with JSCO recently showcasing its new Noiseless Mouse. Purportedly, the left / right click buttons provide the same travel and “click” feedback, but without all the extra racket. If the video beyond the break is to be believed, this thing really does operate silently (to human ears, anyway), and best of all, there’s a variety of designs to choose from at around £9 ($14) a pop. Huzzah! Oops… we mean, huzzah.

Microsoft Gives New Look to Arc Keyboard

MicrosoftArcKeyboardSE.jpg

Oh Microsoft, you’re learning the seductive secrets of the special edition. The company unveiled the gracefully curved Arc keyboard in black, modeled after the gracefully curved Arc mouse, earlier this year. Now it’s giving the keyboard a fresh look with a white top and a lime underside. That lime color is visible through the keys.

You won’t find this special edition just anywhere, thought; you can only get it at Amazon. Just knowing that it’s an exclusive special edition makes me want it all the more. Also, the new colors perfectly match the lightweight keyboard’s elegance. It uses a 2.4-GHz wireless signal and comes with a stowable Nano transceiver.

Are you ready to get one? Well, you can’t have it yet. It won’t be available until June. That’s another seductive ploy–and it’s working. Pre-order one at Amazon for $59.95.

Apple teases Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (update)

Wait a second, can it be true? Is Apple really caving to the pressures of supporting a socket that’s used by pretty much every home entertainment owner ever? In the Tech Specs section that went up with this morning’s MacBook Pro refresh, there’s a fourth video output listed: “HDMI output using Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (optional).” That’s the first mention we’ve seen of such a cable from Apple itself; to date, users have had to rely on third-party solutions in order to get an HDMI connector from the Mini DisplayPort. Of course, we’re guessing those alternatives sold at Monoprice will best Apple’s in terms of price, but as of now, the company has yet to even reserve a product portal within its store. Let’s just go ahead and call it: $29.99, shipping in May. Feel better?

[Thanks, Arnav]

Update: Ars Technica has it that Apple actually won’t be making its own adapter; instead, these new machines will simply support audio pass-through with the aforesaid third-party dongles. Glad that’s cleared up!

iPad LapDock asks why you’d ever need a laptop, we can think of a few answers (video)

Don’t act like you haven’t thought about it, every slate device is just begging for the perfect keyboard accessory that can also function as a hard case. Some industrious souls have gotten on the case of building just such a contraption for the iPad, titled it the LapDock, and given it no lesser a goal than to completely obviate the need for laptops. Shh, no need to ruin their halcyonic existence with talk of the added connectivity, functionality, and versatility of laptops, just let it slide. As to the current state of affairs, well, the LapDock looks like a nicely carved wooden case with room for your iPad and Apple Bluetooth keyboard and that’s about it. Not the highest of high-tech implementations, but it’s still at the, ahem, prototype stage. Go after the break to see if it catches your fancy.

GelaSkins Unveils New iPad Designs

GelaSkins - iPad - BannerGelaSkins announced today that some of its most popular designs are available for the Apple iPad. Now that upwards of 700,000 iPads are in the hands of the fans who lined up to get theirs on launch day, many of those owners are looking to personalize and protect their investments, and GelaSkins’ nylon removable designs are perfect for both purposes.

In addition, GelaSkins fans can make their own iPad skins using the service’s online do-it-yourself design generator.

iLuv Unveils New iPad Sleeves and Cases

iLuv - iPad - BannerJust in time for launch day, iLuv announced a number of iPad cases, sleeves, and screen protectors last week in various shapes, sizes, and colors, designed to give new iPad owners an array of choices when it comes to protecting their precious new tablet.

Among the iLuv releases are a leather case that allows you to use your iPad while keeping it protected, a stylish buckle-top sleeve that will keep your iPad between layers of soft fabric while you carry it around, a series of clear and patterned polycarbonate cases and docks, and a series of clear and glare-free screen protectors that let you use your iPad freely without worrying about damaging the display.

iPad Camera Connection Kit finally surfaces for pre-order, still absurdly overpriced

If you’ll recall, Apple had no qualms revealing the iPad Camera Connection Kit at its ‘Latest Creation‘ event back in January, but the solution seemingly dropped from the face of the Earth shortly thereafter. Even as cases, keyboards and all sorts of other iPad accessories surfaced for pre-order, the camera kit remained nowhere to be found. Over the weekend, the $29 adapter bundle finally found a home at the outfit’s website (with a “late April” ship date), offering users a pair of dongles to support USB and SD cards. Of course, one could easily argue that the iPad should have native support for both of these widely used formats without forcing users to lug around two extra peripherals, but if that were the case, this thing just wouldn’t be an Apple, now would it?

Yoga Natal game appears on GAME retailer’s Xbox 360 release schedule (update: Amazon UK too!)

Time for some more salacious prognostications about the future, courtesy of the wily folks over at vg247. The team there claims to have obtained internal documents from UK video game retailer GAME that lists the release dates for forthcoming Xbox 360 titles. The listing is headlined by new iterations of Crysis, Call of Duty and Metal Gear Solid, but the highlight for us gadget junkies is at the very end: Yoga Natal, scheduled for an October release. Now, even if this doc comes straight from the horse’s mouth, game release dates are notoriously prone to fluctuation, so let’s not read too much into that October date. What’s intriguing is that Microsoft does indeed seem intent on creating specialist games for its Natal experience, and it may be that they’ll all include Natal in their titles to make compatibility abundantly clear. Or this may be just a big bad April 1-related hoax, we’ll live either way.

[Thanks, Matt R.]

Update: We’ve now also discovered a pulled Amazon listing for Yoga Natal, and we’ve stashed a screenshot of its Google Cache version just after the break [Thanks, Ian].

Ask Engadget: Best Bluetooth gamepad for the PC?

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Herbert, who would “blow up the [PC accessory] market if he had millions of dollars.” Right. If you’re looking to send in an inquiry of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.

“Look, where are all the amazing Bluetooth gamepads at? There are plenty of great options when it comes to Bluetooth mice, Bluetooth keyboards and Bluetooth headsets, but so few gamepads are out there for PC gamers. I don’t want some other form of wireless, and I don’t want a gamepad for the PS3 or Xbox 360 — I want PC! Help!”

PC gamers are a tight-knit bunch, and we’ve heard that they never, ever let each other down. We suppose we’ll see just how true that is based on the replies down in comments below.

Wii football controller brought to life by CTA Digital

It wasn’t too long ago that we were berating Nintendo for its seemingly silly patent application relating to a football-shaped soft appendage for the Wii Remote controllers. As it turns out, we may have underestimated the consumer interest in just such a product. While Ninty’s application is still under review, CTA Digital has taken the opportunity to introduce its own “soft, realistic accessory” for the ballers that just can’t get their Madden on without the feel of a rubbery pigskin substitute. It’s ambidextrous, it comes with a wrist strap, and it has absolutely no right to exist in a society of right-thinking Homo sapiens. But it does. At least price and availability aren’t yet public, so hopefully you’ll have forgotten about this abomination by the time of release.
