“Dear Sir or Madam,” the email began, and we almost deleted it at once, but then we realized the gentleman who wrote that line was hawking the Yosion Apple Peel 520. A quick visit to his website did nothing to allay our lingering suspicions — it appeared to be a hastily-cobbled cash-in through and through — but still, the prospect of an iPod touch case with cellular capabilities sorely tempted our wallet. We evaded the siren call and left Peel520.net without attempting a purchase, but noticed on our way out several references to the practically identical website for the MicroSIMCutter. Google tells us their owners are one and the same, so if you bought one of those sim-cutting devices (not to be confused with the Cut My Sim) and got your product as promised, we suppose you’re liable to get a good deal here. But if you have qualms, well — wait for Go Solar to formally bring the product to market, or else steer clear.

The wait for the Boxee Box is nearly over — pre-orders begin today — but before you drop a stack of change on D-Link’s half-sunk cube, know that there’s no longer an NVIDIA Tegra 2 under that tiny hood. At the last minute, Boxee switched to the Intel Atom CE4100, the same up-to-1.2GHz Sodaville chip powering Google TV. That’s not all, as manufacturer D-Link told us our good friend Avner Ronen may not be able to keep his promise — though the company still expects the Box to hit the streets at under $200, we’re now looking at a $229 suggested retail price. What could possibly have happened to make these drastic changes? We visited Boxee in person to get an explanation, and you’ll find the surprisingly simple (yet NVIDIA-damning) answer right after the break.

Update: We just learned that Amazon will be selling it for $199, though the MSRP will remain $229.

We don’t need to explain in any great detail just how badly the world needs another e-reader and tablet option, but you’re wasting your time wishing for fewer selections. Case in point: Velocity Micro has just placed its Cruz Reader and Cruz Tablet up for pre-order at Borders, with both units boasting 7-inch displays and seductive price points. The Reader is going for $199.99 and should ship out by the end of next month, while the Tablet is $100 more and could be at your doorstep a fortnight before Halloween. Hit the source link if you’re in desperate need of a specifications reminder, but be sure and hide that credit card if you’re looking to avoid any and all impulse buys. Nokia’s Symbian^3 flagship — the 3.5-inch N8 with 12 megapixel camera — just went up for pre-order on Espoo’s Italian storefront showing an end of September availability. Now before you get up in arms about the €469 price tag (about $610), remember, the €370 estimated retail price announced was pre tax and pre carrier subsidy. That’s just how Europe does things, deal with it. We’re not seeing the preorder available elsewhere but we’ll update you if that situation changes.

Sure, the Epic 4G seems awesome — but that doesn’t mean Sprint can (or should) abandon the midrange Android market, right? On that note, the previously-leaked Samsung Intercept is now up for pre-order on Sprint’s so-called EVP site for business discount customers where it’s selling for $99.99 on a two-year contract after rebate (though we imagine regular customers coming into corporate retail stores might have to pay more than that). Feature-wise, you’re looking at a 3.2 megapixel cam with some sort of video capture, slide-out QWERTY keyboard (this is likely a Moment successor, after all), and your choice of Gray Steel or Satin Pink finishes. Word is that we might see an official launch this weekend — just don’t mistake it for an Epic when you see it in the store, alright?
