Hands On With The Actually Decent PlayStation 3 3D [Ps3d]

The PS3’s 3D feature—upgradeable via a software update for every PS3 out there—is actually pretty decent. Not only did we see it live, working, on a giant projection screen, but on a smaller HDTV in front of us. More »

Sony PlayStation Move launch details get official: $99 for the bundle, hits North America September 19th

Digg this!Well, Sony didn’t waste too much time in announcing the Move details you’ve been waiting for — the complete PlayStation Move Sports Champions bundle with the PlayStation Eye, Move and the game will run $99.99, while the Move controller itself will set you back $49.99, and the optional navigation controller is $29.99. Anyone that doesn’t already have a PS3 will also be able to pick up a new console bundle containing everything for $399.99. As for a release date, folks in Europe will be able to get their hands on the Move before anyone else on September 15th, but North American gamers won’t have to wait too much longer to get theirs — it’ll be available over here on September 19th.

Update: We’ve added the full press release after the break, which also includes details on the Move charging station and shooting attachment — look for them to run $30 and $20, respectively.

Sony announcing PS3 bundles with more storage, faster WiFi, and Move?

Sony announcing PS3 bundles with more storage, faster WiFi, and Move? We’re just a day away from Sony’s official press conference at this year’s E3, and CVG has heard rumors from a supposedly reliable source that some refreshed PS3 bundles are on the docket for officialdom. Word is that the new PS3s will pack 802.11n WiFi (up from 802.11b/g currently) and will come in 250 and 500GB flavors. Both bundles are said to be coming with at least one Move controller included, a move (zing!) that Sony had already said it would make, but the word of faster WiFi flies in the face of last week’s FCC filing for new bundles still offering only 802.11b/g. So, will a new 802.11n-equipped model become the standard edition, or does this “industry source” not have a clue? We’ll find out tomorrow.

Update: Looks as if Sony has updated Move’s official online portal with a slew of working titles. Have a peek while we get ready for the full reveal at E3, won’t you? Thanks, Tiaan!

E3 2010: Vogel Debuts Twistdock for PS3

TwistDock on Table.jpg

The Vogel TwistDock is a sleek and sexy PS3 docking station that not only keeps cables and controllers neatly organized but also charges them (even when the system is powered down). Available exclusively for the PS3 and PS3 Slim, the TwistDock also adds two extra USB ports, which you can expand to six with the optional 4 USB Hub accessory.

TwistDock pricing has yet to be revealed (that’s to happen this summer), but what’s known is its availability: the holiday season.

Looking for a dock… with a twist? Frankly we weren’t either, but that didn’t stop us from being intrigued by the aptly titled TwistDock for the PS3 from Vogel’s, a docking station for a console that we didn’t think needed one. On the front the TwistDock houses a PS3, either original or Slim, and on the back (here comes the twist) two controllers can be slotted in and charged, shown after the break. There’s also a USB hub for connecting other goods and overall it pledges to keep your layout “clean, stylish and sexy.” That would be lovely progression from our current entertainment center’s “dusty, cluttered and tangly” label. Can it deliver? It’s on display at this year’s E3, and we’ll go see for ourselves.

PlayStation 3 is finally HDTV ready with an HDMI cable pack-in for Father’s Day

It’s always seemed a bit ridiculous to us that a console that promised “full HD features from the start” was never capable of playing games or movies in high definition right out of the box, but this special Father’s Day PS3 bundle fixes that with an HDMI cable packed in. Of the many PlayStation 3 SKUs so far, none have come with anything other than standard def-only composite cables, requiring add-on component cables (the ones for PS2 always worked) for 720p/1080i or an aftermarket HDMI cable for 1080p, and retailers have been only too happy to limit their supply to $40+ options. The Xbox 360 used to earn a gold star for including component cables and later HDMI in some packages, but recently dropped HD cables in the name of saving a few bucks. We’re sure you’ve already got Monoprice and other bargain cable sellers bookmarked, but at least we can rest easy knowing Dad can enjoy LittleBigPlanet or a Blu-ray movie on his HDTV without having to run back out for the proper cables.

Is Sony developing PlayTV2? And will we get to play in the states?

Sure, it’s only one word in a long and involved interview, but according to Sony Cambridge Studio’s Mark Green (who’s been talking shop with Spong) it seems that a little something called PlayTV2 is in the works. “We’re still working on PlayTV, PlayTV 2,” he says, while the shop has “other guys working on other concepts.” And while that’s all well and good, but is there any chance that the digital tuner / DVR for PS3 might make it to the states some time soon? To be honest, we’re beginning to lose interest.

PlayStation 3’s first 3D title updates coming June 10th to Japan

Good news / bad news, folks. First with the smiles: PlayStation 3‘s first 3D-enabling updates are due out on June 10th for downloadable titles Super Stardust HD, WipEout HD, and Pain. The first two games get the added dimension for gratis, but Pain lovers (who should be accustomed by now to its abundant premium add-ons) will need to fork over ¥300 (approximately $3.28) for the benefit. The other stickler is that these updates are so far only announced for Japan — and by merit of a Bravia promotion, Europe as well. So what’s a North American gamer with a penchant for wearing special glasses to do? Keep waiting, true believers.

Thrustmaster gets fancy with Ferrari Wireless GT Cockpit 430 Scuderia Edition racing wheel

And you thought your Driving Force GT was pricey. Thrustmaster is today introducing its newest gaming accessory, a startlingly expensive new racing wheel designed to give PlayStation 3 and PC gamers the chance to feel as if they truly are screaming ahead in hopes of being first to fly under the checkered flag. The Ferrari Wireless GT Cockpit 430 Scuderia Edition is a complete wireless cockpit ensemble, requiring far more space than an NYC studio apartment affords to completely unfold, and given that it weighs 23 pounds, you may need to bust out your Ricky Bobby uniform to make sure you aren’t roughed up when leaning hard into turns. The wheel itself measures 11-inches in diameter, and it’s said to be an exact replica of that found on the Ferrari 430 Scuderia (“down to the smallest details,” we’re told), and the all-metal pedals should provide quite the sensation to those who prefer to roll shoeless. Check it this June if you’re having trouble ridding yourself of disposable income.
