Acer’s Aspire 3951 leaks with MacBook Air-like specs, available in October?

It looks like Acer may be dropping down to the lightweight laptop division, now that images of its so-called Aspire 3951 have leaked out of Vietnam. An ostensible rival to the recently refreshed MacBook Air, the 13.3-inch 3951 reportedly boasts a similarly slim design, measuring 13mm thick and weighing less than 1.4 kilograms (about three pounds). According to Sohoa, the aluminum-cased device is powered by a second generation Intel Core processor, features an optional 160GB SSD, and offers more than six hours of battery life, along with Bluetooth 4.0 support. Much like the Air, this Aspire can purportedly boot up pretty fast, as well, rousing from sleep mode in just 1.7 seconds. It’s rumored that Acer will release this new line in October within the curiously affordable price range between $770 and $960, but we’ll have to wait and see whether that actually comes to fruition. Update: Oddly enough, it appears that we’ve caught a glimpse of this exact same laptop before, except it was portrayed by M.I.C. Gadget as a Thunderbolt MacBook Air leak. Perhaps the folks received some bad intel, be it intentional or not.

Samsung Galaxy S II LTE phone surfaces in Korea, codenamed Celox?

There’s a new Samsung Galaxy S II rumor circulating the web today — this time, it’s emanating from South Korea, where specs and images of an LTE smartphone, reportedly codenamed “Celox,” have just surfaced. According to its listing, the phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8060 processor, sports a 4.5-inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus display, and boasts 16GB of internal memory, with a microSD slot offering an extra 32GB. The phone also runs on Gingerbread, rocks a 1750mAh battery (compared to the smaller Galaxy S II’s 1650mAH cell), offers 800MHz LTE support (at up to 50Mbps upstream, 100Mbps downstream) and features an 8MP rear-facing camera, along with a 2MP sensor up front. It all seems pretty similar to that Hercules handset we recently spotted, except for its noticeably different home button, protruding back, and LED flash. No word yet on if or when the handset will hit the market, but considering that both Verizon and AT&T support 700MHz LTE, this particular model may be destined for Europe’s 800MHz networks, rather than the US. We’ll be sure to bring you all the details as soon as they pour in.

Samsung Hercules snapped in the wild, powering its way to Telus soon?

Would demigods feel honored that smartphones are getting named after them? The Samsung Hercules, from what we can tell, seems to fit its given title appropriately; he was, after all, famous for his behemoth strength. Sadly, we’ve known more about him than his technological counterpart, though that may be soon changing. MobileSyrup found someone clutching onto the still-unannounced device at a VIP event and snapped a quick pic for the world to see. While they didn’t get any hands-on time, they indicated that it was running on Telus, it appeared to have a 4.5-inch display (as rumored), and is a design mashup of the Galaxy S II, Nexus S, and the Infuse 4G. This still leaves us with nothing but spec rumors — which include a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, Super AMOLED Plus display, 16GB of flash storage, 42Mbps HSPA+, and an eight megapixel camera — but it’s nice to have a face to go with the famous name. For somebody who likes to go the distance, its superphone namesake sure seems awfully close.

Droid Bionic gets friendly with its future roomate for Mr. Blurrycam

We know, we know — you’re ready to be done with the Droid Bionic. After all, we’ve been lusting after this monstrosity guy for nearly eight months now, so is all of this building up to be a major disappointment? We’re just as eager to find out as the next person, but here are some new images of the real deal to (hopefully) tie you over a bit longer. We’ve seen shots of the Motorola XT875 up close and personal before, but this is the first time it’s been spotted snuggled up next to another phone. Hanging out next to the Samsung Droid Charge, the Bionic’s slightly larger appearance lends credence to reports that it has a 4.5-inch display. A few other cosmetic features that stick out — quite literally, we might add — are the tapered back that bulges halfway up the phone to accommodate the camera, and the beveled edge around the perimeter. As already expected, the microUSB / HDMI port on the bottom right side for Webtop access can easily be discerned. Will this be enough to whet your whistle for another few weeks? If not, we hear there’s another Verizon device inbound that you might be interested in.

ASUS’ next gen Eee Pad Transformer to pack NVIDIA’s quad-core Kal-El, launch this October?

Fan of ASUS’ affordable, yet competitively specced Eee Pad Transformer, but still haven’t committed your credit to its 10.1-inches? Well, if this bout of rumor-mongering proves true, you might want to put the wallet down until early fall. Harbinger of supply chain gossip Digitimes is reporting that the electronics maker has just enlisted Wintek to provide touch panels for its next gen tablet, slated to launch this October. The parts supplier is said to be working in tandem with HannStar Display to ramp up production should this iteration be met with its predecessor’s unforeseen popularity. Adding more ambiguity to the speculative fire, ASUS’ Chairman Jonney Shih recently confirmed to Forbes that an updated Transformer is on its way, saying only that it’d be very “impressive,” and would be available before CES. Jonney didn’t comment on the upcoming slate’s supposed use of NVIDIA’s quad-core Kal-El, but with the chip’s promised August launch date, we wouldn’t rule it out. While talks of a Transformer 2 are still just gossamer promise, you can always snag that Eee Pad Slider while you sit and wait.

It looks like Motorola might be prepping to give the Nike+ SportWatch a run for its money. An intrepid tipster sent along a screenshot from a recent survey showing off what looks like a tricked out nano watch. Described as an “all-in-one fitness and music personal fitness device” (redundant much?) that packs a GPS for “accurate performance tracking,” the as of yet unnamed gadget also sports a “smart music player” that compiles a list of songs based on the tunes that help you sweat your best. It also lets you wirelessly sync to your PC for workout analysis, and apparently does the same for Android devices. Among the possible names listed in the survey is the MotoActive, hinting at, but certainly not pinning down, Motorola branding. Of course this is just an online survey, so we wouldn’t get too excited about your new running mate just yet.

HTC Puccini tablet shots leak out with AT&T branding, may sport stylus functionality

Is this the fabled HTC Puccini tab we recently saw fly through the FCC’s embrace? Only time will tell for sure, but BGR has some leaked shots that show the purported tab cozying up to a Flyer-like stylus, in addition to its AT&T branding. A glimpse of this Honeycomb-based 10-incher’s backside also reveals an 8 megapixel rear-mounted camera accompanied by what looks like a dual-LED flash. There’s also that dual speaker set-up we peeped in the tablet’s prior filing. Of course, what lies beneath this LTE slate is still up for speculation, but a rumored dual-core 1.5GHz processor and 1280 x 800 display aren’t beyond the realm of today’s future specs. Dell quietly pulls the Streak to perform an update, might bring it back next month?

What Dell can give, it can taketh away. That’s the story with the Streak, which has quietly vanished from retail as well as the outfit’s online storefront. We first got wind of this when a tipster wrote in to say he had spoken to a company employee, who said the 5-inch Android tablet / phone had been discontinued. When we reached out to Dell’s PR team to see what’s up, we got the pat “Dell does not comment on rumors, speculation, or unannounced products.” So then we called customer service, pretending to order one, and that’s when things got interesting. The rep told us the Streak hasn’t, in fact, been end-of-life’d; it’s just been pulled from shelves while it receives an update. The gentleman couldn’t say how severe the issue is, though he insists it has zilch to do with Android. Whatever it is, Dell isn’t even accepting orders for the 5-inch Streak at the moment. If all goes according to plan, though, we’re told it should go back on sale in early August.
