Motorola Atrix 4G pegged for February 21st pre-order delivery

Current pre-orders appear to be looking at early March delivery, but AT&T has gone on record saying that folks that elected to pre-order the mighty Motorola Atrix 4G by the 17th will receive it on the 21st of February — next Monday — and if they chose to have their unit sent to a store, they’ll be able to get it there on the 21st as well. The rest of us will need to check out the store on the 22nd and hope for the best. We’ve gotten confirmation from a tipster that his pre-order has shipped with a scheduled delivery on Monday, so it’s looking like they’re on time. Who’s standing in line next Tuesday?

[Thanks, Shaun C.]

Sony VAIO YB now shipping AMD Fusion to your door for $600

The wait on AMD’s Fusion has been so long that we feel like we should pop open the bubbly every time another laptop ships with it. Latest off the assembly line is Sony’s VAIO YB series, which gives you a 1.6GHz processor to make similarly-clocked Atoms AMD-green with envy, 4GB of RAM and 500GB of hard drive space, an 11.6-inch glossy screen with 1366 x 768 resolution, and up to six hours of battery life for $599.99. It’s available in silver and pink varieties today, or you can wait a little while longer for Amazon to get stock of its lower-specced variant, with 2GB of RAM and 320GB of storage, which will cost you $50 less. See more of the VAIO YB in our CES hands-on gallery below.

Nokia E7 starts shipping to ‘select markets’

Better late than never” has been Nokia’s rallying cry when it comes to releasing high-end devices, but we can’t begrudge the delay we’ve experienced with the E7, this phone was gorgeous back in September and it’s still a beauty today. The QWERTY-equipped sibling to the N8 brings a 4-inch Clear Black Display — whose name is no exaggeration, it’s as sharp and vibrant as any AMOLED screen we’ve seen so far — together with the latest version of Symbian, an 8 megapixel camera round the back, 16GB of onboard memory, and a finely crafted aluminum body. The slideout keyboard on this device is easily among the best we’ve ever handled, although the same can’t be said about the mechanism for opening it up. Nokia hasn’t been specific about the markets the E7 will be arriving in over the coming days, but the UK seems a lock and distribution should expand rapidly from there. Jump past the break for Nokia’s press release and a sweet little video promo.

Federal Excess: FedEx introduces liquid nitrogen-cooled biotech shipping, we can envision other uses

Just think about this the next time a FedEx van comes speeding past you — that four-wheeled transporter could be carrying containers equipped with liquid nitrogen cooling that keeps its innards at a chilly -150 degrees Celsius. Don’t worry, though, says FedEx, the use of dry vapor is actually safer than the currently used dry ice and classifies this new methodology as non-hazardous. While we may like to poke fun, it sounds like a pretty legitimate boon for healthcare and biotechnology shipments, which can now be maintained at a deeply frozen temperature for up to 10 days at a time. FedEx will provide the self-sufficient container and collects it upon delivery of the goods, while also monitoring its condition during transit. No word on whether or when DiGiorno will be signing up for the service.

[Thanks, Pavel]

HP’s first webOS tablet may start shipping in March, fulfill longstanding promise

Way back in August of last year, when temperatures were above zero and Honeycomb was still a great unknown, HP promised us the first webOS tablet will come “in early 2011.” Just yesterday, however, our noteworthy exposure of the vanguard members of the webOS tablet family led us to believe that at least one of them, the Opal, would take until September to arrive. That may still be the case, but DigiTimes is bringing us back around to HP’s original pledge, with word that Inventec has received instructions from HP to start producing and shipping a webOS slate (most probably the Topaz) in March. As usual, this comes from the (in)famous insider sources that tend to miss as often as they hit, but it does make sense for HP to follow up its February event with a relatively rapid product rollout.

Notion Ink Adam ships today

Well, what do you know: Notion Ink just announced that it will begin shipping its FCC and CE certified Adam tablet starting tomorrow today. If you pre-ordered, then you should see your delivery status update soon to the last week of January. That’s a lot better than February and much, much better than never which is always the risk when David takes on the Goliaths. Now we’ll see how it holds up to real-world usage — here’s hoping for some of that good JooJoo.

P.S. For what it’s worth, we’re still not seeing the shipping version of Adam — product NI3421A01 with guarantee code Y2G — in the FCC database. Anyone else?

[Thanks, Anthony]

LG Optimus 2X dual-core Android phone hits Europe in January

We already knew that it was coming to its home country of Korea in January. Now we know that LG’s Tegra 2 Optimus 2X will bring its 4-inch display and 1080p video recording capability to the Android loving shores of Europe in the first month of 2011. The detail was hidden in a rather mundane press release touting the inclusion of 25 audio files (including 15 custom ringtones) from famed film composer Ennio Morricone, a man most recognizable for scoring those Sergio Leone “Spaghetti Westerns.” While we’re not sure how this oddball partnership materialized, we do know that there are two kinds of people in this world. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig? So we’re not going to push it.
