Richard Pryor Tending Bar at the Star Wars Cantina (Video)

Anyone else having kind of a crummy week? Good news: more funny videos on the Internet! Here’s one that’s been making the rounds, lately. It was taken from Richard Pryor’s short-lived NBC variety show (which also featured the likes of Robin Williams, Sandra Berhard, and others), which was pulled from the station when the content was deemed too risqué after a handful of episodes.
In this clip, Pryor plays the bartender of the Mos Eisley Cantina. Now, the set itself looks like a pretty standard bar from our own galaxy, but the suits, on the other hand, are all authentic, on loan from Lucasfilms.

Tiny Darth Vader Meets James Earl Jones

James-Earl-Jones-Meets-Max-Page.jpg

The unexpected star of Super Bowl XLV got to meet his predecessor this week. Little Max Page was introduced to James Earl Jones, the voice of the iconic movie villain. Page has had quite the week after his “Force” commercial debuted on Sunday
The little The Young and The Restless actor has never actually seen a Star Wars film, but he happily met Jones who proceeded to autograph a Darth Vader mask for the kid. Jones turned 80 last month. He is currently starring in a Broadway production of Driving Miss Daisy with Vanessa Redgrave.

Star Wars Fan Builds an AT-AT from Old Computer Parts

Welded AT-AT

If you have a pile of old computer parts in the garage or in a corner of your home office that’s been growing because you just keep “meaning to go to the recycling center,” but just haven’t gotten around to it, here’s the DIY project for you. Sage Werbock, a sculptor and Star Wars fan, has taken a bunch of old computer parts from his own collection and that of his friends and put together an incredibly realistic-looking AT-AT that’s over a foot high and weighs less than 15 pounds.
All of the computer components used have been welded together, so this isn’t some heap of steel and aluminum held together by duct tape and twine. Werbock even welded some burn-marks and weapons scars onto the AT-AT to make it look a little more battle-hardened. If you want one yourself, you can head over to his Etsy page to find out how he made it: if you want this one, it can be yours for $450 list.

Max Page, Volkswagen’s Tiny Darth Vader

max page darth.jpg

This is Max Page, the biggest off-field star of last night’s Super Bowl broadcast outside of that weird mess of a half-time show. You didn’t see Page’s face last night, because, like the players, he spent his debut behind a mask. Page is the star of Volkswagen’s much discussed “Force” ad. Yep, he’s the tiny Darth Vader.

Page and his mom made an appearance on the Today Show this morning, to discuss the spot. The pint-sized actor has also appeared on the long-running soap, The Young and the Restless. Also discussed during the interview: the fact that Page has a pacemaker. He was born with a congenital heart disease and had to have surgery at three months.
Also, is it just me, or does the kid look like a Skywalker without the mask on? Video of the Today Show interview, after the jump.

George Lucas Overseeing Star Tours Return

George Lucas Disneyand.jpg

Star Tours is set to make a triumphant return to Disneyland in May. None other than Mr. Star Wars himself, George Lucas, popped by the Anaheim park to check out the progress of the revamped ride. Says the Disney Parks blog, “George and [Star Wars producer, Rick McCallum] gave the team a big thumbs up on their progress.”
Good to hear, otherwise you’d certainly be hearing from Mr. Lucas’s lawyers.

Star Wars/Volkswagen Commercial May Be Super Bowl XLV’s Best

Volkswagen just couldn’t keep the lid of the upcoming Super Bowl ad for the new Passat–and frankly it’s not tough to see way. This is some adorable stuff, right here. In it, a pint-sized Darth Vader attempts to control everything in his parents’ house via the force, while “The Imperial March” plays in the background.
Anyone else gunning for adorable points during half-time not named “The Puppy Bowl” will be hard-pressed to outgun VW’s dejected Sith-in-training. Video after the jump.

Star Wars Legoland Images Released

LegoStarWars1_19_11x014-1.jpg

A couple of weeks back, we told you about Legoland’s plans to open a Star Wars mini-park in its Carlsbad, CA location. The park, set to open on March 31st, will feature seven recreated scenes from the two trilogies and one from the Clone Wars animated film, comprised of 1.5 million blocks.
Well, the folks at Legoland just got permission from LucasArts to give us some more shots of the park in progress–including shots like the above of the Millenium Falcon being transported through the Legoland.
Seems like the shots released thus far are original trilogy only. Check out more images, after the jump.

Star Wars Blu-ray discs to arrive September 27th according to Amazon

Even a flashy CES announce event wasn’t enough for Fox and George Lucas to reveal an exact release date for the arrival of Star Wars on Blu-ray, but now Amazon has updated its preorder ship dates to September 27th. We wouldn’t schedule a day off of work to dive into the promised 30 hours of special features until there’s some sort of official word, but since it is a Tuesday it seems a logical time to expect these discs (in full Complete Saga form or either trilogy set by itself, you choice) to touch down. Relive the somewhat underwhelming Darth Vader entrance and the much more inspiring Blu-ray boxed set trailer after the break.
