If you’re a fan of TomTom’s Go Live series of nav units, you’ll get a kick out of what the company announced today. Hitting retail and online stores in October is “the world’s first portable navigation device with a suite of popular travel apps,” the Go Live 1535M. That’s right folks, this piece of dashboard flair will allow you to use Yelp, TripAdvisor, Expedia and Twitter all from the comfort of its 5-inch touchscreen. In addition to the new application integration, the GPS juggernaut’s classic features will be available as well: hands-free calling, real-time traffic info, local search, fuel prices and weather forecasts. Sounds great, right? But what’s that… you already sprung for the 2535M model? No worries, mates — you’ll be able to download the new features this fall via software update. Pricing for these app-enabled navigators will start at $250 which includes a free 12-month subscription to TomTom Live services. Pretty soon, you’ll be able to make that dinner reservation while TomTom tells you how to get there, seconds before you tweet about it.

This “rare and beautiful” unicorn from HTC’s beastly, dual-core Android herd hails from the Hesse-led network, and will be available as a RadioShack exclusive on September 9th. The electronics retailer dipped more than just its toes into our 21st century ways (or more likely hired a new intern), getting the message out via its Twitter account, and snapping an Instagram shot of the bleached handset. Pricing for the phone has yet to be announced, but we’d be surprised if this gets a premium over its $199 on-contract twin.

Every so often, Chuzzlewitt, Figglesworth and the rest of the Concise Oxford English Dictionary’s Council of Elders gather around a stone in Puddingshire, where they come up with ways to modernize the English language. New words are added, archaic ones are cut, goats are sacrificed. It’s all very messy — especially when internet lingo gets involved, as is so often the case. It’s no different this year, with the latest class of inductees including words like “retweet,” “sexting,” and “cyberbullying.” Also making the cut is “woot” (which is apparently spelled without zeroes) and “surveil,” which was added primarily as a reflection of today’s privacy-conscious society. In fact, the dictionary’s purveyors say they make their decisions based not on intuition or cage match results, but on cultural ubiquity, which they gauge using a database of more than two billion words culled from contemporary sites. So if you’re wondering why words like “jeggings” and “mankini” are now part of the English tome, you have only the internet to blame.
