ASUS P565 apparently available, unboxed

Lazarus be praised! The last time we heard about ASUS’ P565 was back in February, when we mourned its sad and supposed demise. Turns out that’s not the case, as we’ve now got a hands-on with the GPS / PDA phone from Polish site ASUSPDA, who claims (at least via machine translation) that it’s been on sale for several months. The plethora of product / unboxing / interface pics look mighty legit, and as for the impressions, the reviewer seems very quite fond of it. Compliments are given for its general performance and design, though he does note the Glide interface isn’t as seamless as you’d expect with a 816MHz processor inside. If you’re interested in finding out for yourself, it looks like you can order the GSM / WCDMA-enabled device from Qbit for around $566.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 gets unboxed, takes some test shots

Wow, it’s been a great day for camera nerds — the Nikon D5000 got a ship date, the Canon Rebel T1i started arriving in stores, and now the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1‘s been unboxed. That’s a hat trick of hotly-anticipated DSLRs* right there, and the GH1 might be the most anticipated of the bunch. Sadly for would-be importers, the Japanese version here can’t be set to display English menus, but we can still gawk at the pretty pictures, including an amazing shot of the lens cap entitled “The Engadget Product Photo Effect.” Hit the read link for the full set, including some test shots.

*Yes, we know GH1’s not technically a DSLR — what would you call it?

Sidekick LX gets “unboxed,” shows off its creepier side

Fake corporate-marketing unboxing videos aren’t anything new — some of them are even pretty amazing — but this latest one from T-Mobile is definitely the skeeziest we’ve ever seen. Follow along as a sex-crazed Sidekick LX attempts to limit access to his bubbly new owner’s “spring break photos,” pushes her into watching her “hot friends” play beach volleyball, and lament that he’s ended up in the purse rather than her pocket — yep, the Sidekick LX is the creepy little brother you wish you never had. No wonder she stashes it next to the pepper spray. Video after the break.

Plantronics Voyager PRO gets purchased, unboxed early

Plantronics isn’t planning to share intimate details about its Voyager PRO Bluetooth headset until April 23rd, but evidently its supply chain executives didn’t exactly touch base with marketing before sending out stock to Best Buy. Jeff and John both managed to procure the $119.99 Bluetooth headset over the weekend, and we’ve got the shots to prove it. Based on the teaser site down in the read link, this here headset should be it’s most advanced yet, but for a buck twenty, it better answer and respond to our calls without us having to intervene.

Leyio’s UWB-touting personal sharing device unboxed, handled on video

We first caught a glimpse of Leyio‘s Ultra-wideband-pushing personal sharing device back in January, and while UWB is still teetering near mostly dead and slightly alive, Le Journal du Geek has acquired a pair for some fun unboxing action and video hands-on accompanied by lovely French narrative. The reviewer predicts most people will be discouraged by the 179 euro (US $233) price tag, and with wireless filesharing here limited pretty much to just other Leyios at the moment, we can’t say we disagree. Check out the video for yourself after the break — if you’re not a native French speaker or your babel fish is on the fritz, you should still be able to figure out what’s going on.

Special Edition Advent Children PlayStation 3 unboxed in all its matte glory

There’s a lot to love about the special edition 160GB Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete Cloud Black PlayStation 3 bundle that was unleashed this week in Japan — a fancy Strife Wolf emblem, a copy of Advent Children Complete on Blu-ray, and a Final Fantasy XIII demo you can’t play anywhere else — but perhaps our favorite part is the console’s matte finish. For us, a smudge-resistant PS3 is well worth the 49,980 yen (US $505) price of admission. 1UP has the unboxing, hit up the read link for more pics.

Canon Rebel T1i / 500D gets unboxed

Psystar Open(3) manages to ship, gets unboxed by lucky customer

Take a good look at the box above, folks — it just might be the first, the last and the only Open(3) you ever see. Psystar‘s latest Mac clone, which was launched right around a month ago, has miraculously managed to ship out (or, at least one has). If you’ll recall, the company has been battling with Apple for months on end for selling OS X-equipped machines without Cupertino’s blessing, but apparently it’s still doing at least a bit of business under the table. Acer AspireRevo: the Ion-infused unboxing

We just tore the packaging off of Acer’s new AspireRevo nettop and dove into its Ion-powered goodness. The computer is in many ways a product of NVIDIA’s designs, since the Ion-powered nettop reference platform has been a part of the Ion ecosystem for a while, and this Revo apple doesn’t fall from the NVIDIA tree. Still, Acer had to go ahead and build the thing, and it’s a pretty great package all-in-all. We’re still in the preliminaries — the HDMI didn’t work out of the gate, but after swapping back and forth a few times with the VGA plug we were in business — and we’re playing with a potentially buggy “engineering sample,” but hopefully we’ll be able to pull together some cohesive impressions on the thing, and play a bit of Spore while we’re at it. It’s already obviously the fastest Atom-powered device we’ve played with, and while it still pretty much chokes on Hulu and that whole “multitasking” concept, we’re pretty pleased so far.
