Don’t expect HP’s webOS 2.0 to be tied to an HVGA screen for long — come “early 2011,” the company will introduce a number of “really interesting new form factors,” including tablets and phones. That was the message driven home at Palm’s Developer Day this year, according to PreCentral‘s Dieter Bohn, and the software that’s going to make that shift possible is a little something called Enyo. Picking up where Ares left off, Enyo is a Javascript app framework with native hardware acceleration and faster app load times (they’re allegedly down to one second now), but the part we think you’ll be most interested in is the promise of apps that natively scale to multiple aspect ratios. HP’s Scott Miles demoed it earlier this week by playing around with a tiny, single-pane portrait email application in the desktop version of Chrome… and then maximized the browser window to reveal a fully-functioning three-pane landscape layout suited for a large tablet screen. Representatives stressed that the email app was a proof of concept, but Enyo’s here to stay, replacing the earlier Mojo starting in 2011 and slated to be available in early 2011 via developer SDK. Ari Jaaksi, the former head of MeeGo Devices at Nokia, has confirmed reports from last month identifying HP as his new employer. According to the latest update to his LinkedIn profile, Ari is now enjoying the mild temperatures of the San Francisco Bay Area and does indeed hold the title of Senior Vice President at Hewlett-Packard. That in itself doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the new head honcho for webOS and Palm devices, but clicking on his “Company Website” link takes you to Palm.com, which should dispel any lingering doubts. So now that we know he’ll be helping steer the HPalm ship, can we start sending Ari our mockups for the Pre 3 or what?

We’re hoping he wasn’t speaking out of turn here, but for what it’s worth, Palm developer advocate Josh Marinacci has said on stage at webOS Developer Days today in New York that webOS 2.0 will be coming to “all” Palm devices in “the coming months.” Now, we’re going to go ahead and assume he’s not talking about your Treo 650, your Palm III, or your LifeDrive, but we’re taking that to mean that Pre, Pixi, Pre Plus, and Pixi Plus owners on all carriers around the globe can expect official upgrades for their phones — and hey, considering how mild of an upgrade the Pre 2 is (and the fact you can’t get it on some of the older devices’ launch carriers), that’s fantastic news. We don’t quite know how to break it to you, but if PreCentral sources are correct, Palm’s hit a very interesting landmark: its comeback device, the Pre for Sprint, has reportedly reached End of Life (EOL). Warehouse quantities are said to be limited, and after that… well… have fun scouring eBay. Or better yet, maybe consider another carrier for the Plus model or even a full-blown sequel; we can’t imagine the original Pixi’s gonna cool your cravings. It’s been a wild ride since that June 5th, 2009 launch, eh?

French citizens have been enjoying webOS 2.0 with their morning baguette for over two weeks, but it’s one step closer to home today — Pocket-lint reports that the Palm Pre 2 will launch in the United Kingdom this Friday. What’s more, the 1GHz handset won’t be chained to a British carrier, but rather released into the wild completely SIM-free, which probably means future Just Typists will need to buy it direct from HP. As for the promised pre-orders for US students, we’re sorry to say they’ve failed to materialize; the Facebook page that once clearly stated “preorders begin 11/8” now simply reads “Palm Pre 2 coming soon.” Soon enough for you?

Had any doubts that HP would deliver multiple new phones? Here’s a little something that should make you slightly less unsure. Homebrew hub WebOS Internals spent last week digging through SFR’s webOS 2.0 build for the Palm Pre 2, and surfaced with the names Broadway, Windsor, Mantaray and Stingray, as well as the Roadrunner you’re likely already familiar with. More telling, these five codenames appeared in a string designed to display the message “temporarily not restoring logs for newer devices,” meaning they’re all very likely as fresh as can be. Let’s hope we can pin them to some fancy new hardware before the year is through.

Whether called the Pre 2 or Pre Plus 2, there’s no denying that the first webOS 2.0 device is coming at us in a fast and furious fashion. Verizon docs already revealed it was on that carrier’s November roadmap, and now HP’s Facebook page for students has narrowed pre-order availability down to a specific date: November 8th. That’s next Monday, folks! No more info is available at this time, such as whether that will include the promised unlocked GSM Pre 2s or whether they would be forthcoming at a later date. Either way, we’re excited to see this 1GHz vessel sail in and bring us all that improved webOS goodness.
