Nyko’s Charge Base S For Xbox 360 Improves On The Unimprovable [Video]

Because modern console controllers are all wireless, keeping them constantly charged is as vital to the gaming experience as choosing the right controller. That’s why the original Nyko Charge Base was like my personal team doctor, making sure the guys were ready and charged for game time. But now could Nyko improve on something that’s near perfect? This is how. More »

Xbox 360 Price Cut on August 8th – In Time for Halo 3!

This article was written on July 25, 2007 by CyberNet.

Xbox 360 Halo 3 ModCome August 8th the Xbox 360 might be seeing a $50 price cut! Both Hollywood Reporter and Xbox Scene are reporting the news, although Xbox Scene wasn’t given the details on the amount of the price drop.

There was also no reference as to which models would get their prices slashed. I would guess that it would be across the board, which would mean that the Core model would go from $299 to $249, the Pro model would go from $399 to $349, and the Elite model would go from $479 to $429. For the sake of having nice numbers we’ll guess that the Elite model will actually drop down to $399. :)

So why would Microsoft possibly be dropping the price? I’m guessing one of the reasons is that it will put the Core model at the same price as the Nintendo Wii, which will be appealing to families looking to purchase a cheap console. I’m guessing the other reason that they are looking to drop the price is to prepare for the launch of Halo 3 on September 25th. This game is sure to attract new Xbox 360 owners, and with a reduced price on the system it is almost like you get the game for free.

I think I’d rather pick up a Wii, but Halo 3 would be quite fun to play with some friends.

Microsoft sells 10 million Kinects, 10 million Kinect games

Microsoft sells 10 million Kinects, 10 million games too

First it was one, then two and a half, then eight, and now we’re into double digits. Microsoft has announced that the company has sold its 10 millionth Kinect, surprising us all by making it the world’s fastest selling consumer electronics device according to Guinness, finding buyers for somewhere north of 10 million games, too. Now, we know what you’re thinking Mr. Cynical: “Each Kinect comes with a game and so of course M$ has sold 10 million titles!” Swallow that smug grin, because that’s 10 million standalone games sold, and while a 1:1 tie ratio is hardly approaching PS2 territory it’s certainly better than many had expected — especially you, Mister C.

Microsoft goes on a hiring spree for new Xbox hardware devs, staffing up for next console push?

Before you go leaping to any conclusions, do remember that Microsoft plans on keeping the Xbox 360 going until at least 2015 so we’re not really talking imminent changes here. Nonetheless, the software giant has listed a plethora of new job openings, with the most interesting ones being at its Mountain View research campus, where a team responsible for “defining and delivering next generation console architectures” is looking for fresh blood. A graphics hardware architect is sought to ensure that the next Xbox strikes the optimal balance between the awesome and affordable, while a design verification engineer and a few others will be hired to test and help develop prototypes. This bolstering of numbers seems to indicate Microsoft is starting to ramp up research and development on its next-gen home entertainment linchpin, and while nothing’s likely to emerge from those Mountain View labs in the short term, the mere sound of clanking tools and buzzing electrons is getting us excited already.

Liquid Cool Your Xbox 360

This article was written on June 20, 2006 by CyberNet.

Liquid Cool Your Xbox 360

A lot of people aren’t brave enough to take apart their Xbox 360 which means most people wouldn’t dare to try sending liquid through it! One man did it with careful planning and documented it with pictures along the way. Here is what he thought of the project after finishing it:

It has prooven to be quite a challenge doing a complete interal watercooling build with such space restrictions, the whole project was well thought through before being started, and as can be seen through the progress photos it shows quite clearly the steps I took so it may be possible for some people to replicate a simillar modification as the parts are mentioned in my thread.

If the liquid cooling isn’t daring enough for you then he has a long list of other things that he has done to his Xbox 360. Two of the coolest things that he did visually is he custom painted the case blue and he stuck blue LED lights all around the case to give it a glowing effect. The lights can also be turned on or off by a simple flick of a switch.

Modder turns RROD-stricken Xbox 360 into PS3 arcade controller, awesomeness

In the most recent of Xbox 360 hacks, a modder named Morris has crafted a PS3 controller out of none other than — as ironic as this may seem — a dead Xbox 360. That’s right, somewhere out there, a PlayStation 3 has slain its mortal enemy, mercilessly gutted the internals and now has a modded Xbox as its eternal slave. The case contains all of the buttons you need to partake in a classic beat-’em-up — a joystick, the four PlayStation buttons, R1 and R2. There’s plenty more to gander at in the source link and enough in the way of detail and instruction to get started on your own arcade stick too.

Need A Laugh? PS3 & Wii Feature Comparison

This article was written on November 30, 2006 by CyberNet.

PS3 Wii

About a week ago Paul Thurrott put together a great feature comparison guide for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the Wii. He highlights many of the features that tech enthusiasts love to know about, like the processors and included RAM.

The comparisons don’t always have to be serious though, do they? Nah, and the one that The Onion posted is sure to give you a laugh. Here is a listing of a few comparisons they make between the PS3 and the Wii:

  • Cost
    • PS3: F$#%ing ridiculous
    • Wii: Reasonably ridiculous
  • Ability to tear apart families
    • PS3: Second-to-none
    • Wii: Pretty strong, though mostly because everyone wishes it were a PlayStation instead
  • The way your peers will view you
    • PS3: “Dude! Can I come over and play that shit?”
    • Wii: “I’ll come over, but don’t tell anybody, okay?”
  • Love of owner
    • PS3: This much
    • Wii: Thiiis much

There are a few other comparisons that they make but I just couldn’t help but laugh when I was reading them. Hope you like it as much as I did. ;)

Kinect hackers give us iOS-friendly dodgeball and Human Tetris

Remember that Microsoft Rally Ball demo from a few days ago that showed Windows Phone 7’s integration with Xbox? Well, the gang at Supertouch has stolen a bit of Ballmer’s thunder with a new Kinect hack that lets you hurl digital orbs at your Kinect-controlling friend using an iOS device instead of a WP7 handset. The graphics for the game and the iDevice controls aren’t nearly as pretty as Microsoft’s cross-platform gaming solution, but the end result is pretty much the same — flingin’ balls with a phone while your friend dodges them courtesy of Kinect.

Meanwhile, Frog Design has added a Human Tetris game to the Kinect’s repertoire where players perfect their Vogue-ing skills by striking a pose to match an approaching cut-out on screen. Finally, all the shape-shifting fun with none of the goofy silver jumpsuits. Vids are after the break.

GAEMS Xbox 360 traveling case gets sleek redesign, still won’t help you spell correctly

The last rendition we saw of the GAEMS console-carrying case looked more like a giant lunch box than a solution to your portable gaming needs. If you’re still interested in bringing your Xbox 360 on the road, the company has redesigned the case and it now supports the fat and slim versions of the 360 and even the PS3-skinny. What’s new in this compact carrying case is the fact there’s actually room to store the console, controllers and power brick. It comes bundled with a remote, HDMI cable and power supply to power the speakers and LED screen. If you’re road trippin’ any time soon and want this beast, you can save yourself 20 bones by pre-ordering before April 20th and you’ll receive the $300 case come June.

Microsoft Rally Ball demo shows Windows Phone 7, Kinect, Xbox Live living in perfect harmony (video)

Though it’s billed strictly as a technology demo — not something we’ll necessarily see in any imminent over-the-air update — Microsoft showed off a pretty cool demo of how Windows Phone 7’s Xbox Live integration could take advantage of Kinect down the road at Steve Ballmer’s MWC keynote today. How, you ask? Using the Rally Ball game, a Windows Phone user was shown tossing balls to an on-screen character that’s controlled by someone else on an Xbox using a Kinect. Simple, yes — but perhaps as interesting as the Kinect aspect is the viability of real-time cross-platform gaming that Microsoft seems to be throwing its support behind. Seems like a good way to torture your friends into working out from thousands of miles away, doesn’t it?

Update: We have a video of this in action after the break!
