Samsung goes display crazy: H03 pico projector, SyncMaster PX2370 LCD and more

Well, what do you know? Seems Samsung set up shop in the heart of London and threw itself a product introduction party! In case the company’s new laptop and desktop options didn’t tickle your fancy, Sammy’s giving you a host of new display options as well. Kicking things off is the June-bound H03, which the company incorrectly claims is the “world’s brightest pico projector” with just 30 ANSI lumens — too bad we’ve seen units with far more already. Moving on, there’s the new SyncMaster PX2370 LED-backlit LCD monitor, offering up a 16:9 aspect ratio, a Touch of Color design, 2ms response time, VGA / DVI / HDMI inputs and a 1080p native resolution. Bringing up the rear is the 1,000 ANSI lumen LED-based SP-F10M projector and the SyncMaster MD230, the latter of which we saw toying with ATI’s Eyefinity solution back at CES. Sadly, no concrete pricing details were made public, but you can peruse the respective press releases just beyond the break.

Samsung unveils 23-inch U250 and 20-inch U200 multitouch all-in-one PCs

Eager for more of Samsung‘s outlay? Good. Officially unveiled today over in the UK, the company’s new 23-inch U250 and 20-inch U200 all-in-one PCs are going where loads of AIO machines already have: the multitouch galaxy. The former offers up a full 1080p resolution, while the latter steps down to 1,600 x 900; both of ’em ship with Windows 7 Home Premium, and the company would have you know that these two mark its “first venture into the home PC market in the UK.” Regrettably, the excitement was tempered by the lack of a real specification sheet, but we’re told they’ll ship later this month for those who couldn’t care less about nuts, bolts, gigahertz and megabytes.

Kaleidescape outs M300 and M500 Blu-ray players, copiers

Kaleidescape‘s just announced another line of high end home entertainment products — this time it’s the M300 and M500 Blu-ray players. The M500 also boasts Blu-ray copying abilities, too — allowing you to import Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs onto your server at home. In an interesting decision, Kaleidescape will require that the physical Blu-ray disc be present for playback from the server — which, you may be thinking, rather defeats the purpose, doesn’t it? Pretty much. Thankfully, Kaleidescape’s got a disc loader in the works which will allow you to keep a “large number” of discs ready in the system for faster loading. The loader itself isn’t expected to be ready for retail until the first half of next year, but you can grab the M300 and the M500 beginning May 18th, with the M300 running $2,495 and the M500 at $3,995. The full press release follows.

Europe Chooses Cosmonauts for Mars Simulation

Mars_500_ESA.jpg
An 18-month simulated mission to Mars has two new members, a Frenchman and a Columbian-Italian, BBC News reports.
Both will join two Russians and a Chinese national in entering a set of steel containers on June 3rd. The Mars500 “spaceship,” located in Russia’s Institute of Biomedical Problems, has no windows; the goal is to test the physical and mental requirements of super-long spaceflight, the report said.
The containers will house all the necessary food and water, and will even feature a time delay in communications with “Earth” after the first two months of the “trip.”
After about 250 days aboard the four-container Mars500, half of the crew will enter a “landing craft” and “descend” to the planet (a fifth container) where they’ll walk around wearing modified spacesuits. More crew members will be chosen in the coming days, according to the report.
I don’t know about you, but I’m off to re-read some good Mars fiction.

Amazing Screensavers That Aren’t Bundled With Spyware

This article was written on August 16, 2006 by CyberNet.

SkyRocket ScreensaverAlmost every screensaver site I have been to in the past has some sort of spyware/adware attached to the files that you download. Really Slick Screensavers is completely different because their downloads only contain a help file and the screensaver file. On top of that their screensavers are not like anything you would find anywhere else.

I played around with a few that they have listed and I think the Skyrocket one (pictured above) is my favorite It is pretty much a fireworks show that is in a 3D world. Oh yeah, and I can’t forget to mention that it has pretty cool sound effects!

The screensavers are all available for Windows but most of them have also been ported over to Mac OS X and Linux. If you are into building your own screensavers then maybe you would like to download the source code for them to see how these are made.
