Droid Pro is the global Droid 2: the evidence grows

We’d reported before our belief that the rumored Droid Pro is nothing more than the dual-mode version of the Droid 2, but the question remained: knowing that the Droid 2 has a model code of A955, what the heck is the difference between the model codes A956 and A957 that have been showing up in Verizon’s systems? Looks like we might have some clarification on that question this afternoon thanks to a new shot clearly calling out the A957 as the R2-D2 version of the Droid 2 that’s launching late next month. What does that mean? Well, it means that if the Droid Pro is a separate product with insane specs, it hasn’t shown up in any screen shots and we don’t have a model code for it. Our original tipster was pretty insistent that Verizon didn’t have any product on its 2010 phone roadmap with crazier specs than the Droid X — and besting it inside of six months would seem like an awful business move anyway — so now, the only question seems to be whether Big Red will go with the “Droid 2 World Edition” or “Droid Pro” branding when this thing launches in the coming weeks.

[Thanks, anonymous tipster]

Mutating Mars hoax at it yet again

For the seventh consecutive year, fake e-mails are filling up in-boxes around the world warning that on August 27, Mars will approach Earth and grow to the size of a full moon.

Supposed next-gen iPod touch, nano / shuffle cases surface online

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before — an Apple event is looming, and suddenly some cases turn up online that seem to nicely line up with the devices rumored to be announced. These latest examples come courtesy of Chinese case retailer X-Doria, and include a case for what appears to be a 4th-gen iPod touch with a camera, and one that’s described as a case for a “nano 6G,” but could seemingly also be for a new iPod shuffle with a touchscreen. Of particular note, the apparent iPod touch case seems to reveal a curved back more similar to the current model than the iPhone 4, while the nano / shuffle case looks to be a near perfect match for that 1.7-inch Apple touchscreen that mysteriously turned up in Taiwan last month. What does it all mean? There’s less than a week until we know for sure.

The ErgoMotion Mouse Puts Your Hand on a Pedestal

ErgoMotion Mouse
There’s an entire booming market of ergonomic computer peripherals that have strange designs but are all built to help you reduce stress on your hands and wrists. Joining that market is the ErgoMotion Mouse, a mouse that lives on a flexible pedestal a few inches off of the ground. You still slide the mouse across the desk surface to move the cursor across the screen, but you can tilt the mouse in any direction to reduce wrist-strain. This keeps your hand and wrist in one position, and if you need to move the mouse up or down, you can move the mouse and tilt the mouse forward or back. To move the cursor left or right, move the mouse left or right. You still move the mouse around the desk to move the cursor, but the tilt action reduces wrist-strain.

The ErgoMotion mouse has all of the features of a standard mouse, aside from the pedestal. There are two mouse buttons for left and right click and a four-way scroll wheel. The mouse connects to your computer via USB, and is compatible with both Mac OS and Windows. The ErgoMotion Mouse is available from Smartfish now for $49.95 list.

Jersey Shore Up Your iPhone and iPad

JERSEY-SNOOKI-STORE-HEADER.jpg

Well, I certainly can’t condone this. However, if you’re the sort who needs a little Snooki in your pocket at all times, Music Skins sure has the iPhone/iPod shield for you (iPad, too, if you’ve got a really, really big pocket–overalls, perhaps?). Yep, the company has a full range of gadget skins based on Jersey Shore.

Experience such favorites as “Ferris Wheel,” “Fist” (“Fist Pumping Like Champs”), “Night Out,” and “Situation Logo” (“I Love the Situation”). Also, the Snooki one says “Team Snooki.” I didn’t realize this was a competition. What was the Alien vs. Predator tagline? Whoever Wins, We Lose?

The skins are custom cut for a wide range of devices, including the iPod, iPhone, iPad, a number of BlackBerry models, the Palm Pre, HTC Touch, a number of notebook models, and more. Most of the phones run $15, the iPad is $20, and the computers are $30.

Call me when they make a Hoarders skin for my Droid.

Sony execs talk PlayStation Move expectations, PS4 details

The PlayStation Move is now less than a month from hitting stores shelves, and it looks like some Sony execs are already busy starting to manage expectations. Speaking with Eurogamer this week, Sony Computer Entertainment senior vice president Ray Maguire chose to compare the Move’s launch to that of the EyeToy for the PlayStation 2, saying that “exactly as with EyeToy in the PS2 days, it’s a product that needs to be sampled. You need to get your hands on it. You need to understand it. You need to try it.” Maguire further went on to say he’s “not particularly” expecting “massive” day one sales, but that he expects sales to grow as word of mouth spreads. In other PlayStation news, Sony’s Kaz Hirai seems to have effectively ruled out a download-only future for the eventual PS4 in an interview with MCV, with him saying that a “digital future is over ten years away.” Hirai then went on to note that “we do business in parts of the world where network infrastructure isn’t as robust as one would hope,” and that “here’s always going to be requirement for a business of our size and scope to have a physical medium.” No word if that also applies to Sony’s future handhelds as well.

Why the Netflix iPhone App Makes Me a Happy Zombie [IPhone Apps]

Palm Pre fake tires of waiting for webOS 2.0, takes up iOS and BlackBerry OS lookalikes instead

We feel your pain: you love your BlackBerry at work and your iPhone for personal use, but as hardware goes, nothing gets your motor running quite like the Pre’s pebble-esque shell. Trust us, we’ve all been there! Well, a new clone out of China seeks solve all your technological woes by combining an iOS-inspired user interface and the Pre’s body — with an iPhone home button thrown in for good measure, of course — and when the time comes to throw on the suit and tie and head to work, you can switch the UI over to BlackBerry mode. As far as we can tell, it still functions like an iOS clone here, but at least the skin will remind you of the good ol’ Bold days. Looks like you can’t buy this thing online, but considering how well the software works in most of these things, it’s probably for the best.

Google Voice phone booths Dr. Who might love

Vintage-style booths to promote Google Voice service through Gmail come in the style of those traditional red U.K. phone boxes. We hope to get some near us.

Logitech’s ‘Lonely TV’ Revue with Google TV ad may be sending the wrong message

Logitech’s promoting its Revue with Google TV box in a new “Lonely TV” series of advertisements, but while they’re suggesting the relationship between internet, TV and you should be closer this latest spot only makes us want to search for a restraining order. In light of concerns some have about online privacy and exactly how much information Google is revealing about our habits, maybe a giant screen with an eyeball on it sending a teenaged girl into a panic (and not the Bieber fever) is the wrong mascot. Check out the full ad after the break and see if we’re wrong — remember, being weird worked out great for Palm.
